The perceived advantage of a 2v1 lane (usually adc + support vs. top laner) is that the early push and tower being taken, combined with the effective shutdown and/or killing of the enemy solo champion, gives the adc and support a safe lane to get an early gold lead in, and some extra early global gold for your team as well.
The known changes in s4 address the issues that supports currently have of being a ward dispenser, and nothing else. But keep in mind the additional trinkets also go onto the other champs too, not to mention that the 2v1 meta is against champs who normally don't have a high kill potential early on in the game and take time to farm, get items, and be tanky (ie., Shen, Renekton, Nasus, Jax). Once the meta figures out how to beat the potential 2v1 lane swap issue then other changes can occur in the meta.
BTW, if you expect a 2v1 lane swap out of a particular team comp during champ select, itemize for it or pick champs that can handle having low cs for the first few minutes. I'd have to imagine there are a few champs that can do that and still be relevant in the right team comps.
I'll just guessing here as I have 0 experience with a 2v1 lane, but maybe someone like Kennen, Rumble or Riven, champs with either high mobility, built in tankiness/shield or teamfight potential that only require 1-2 major items to be relevant?

You realise that Renekton has super high kill potential early, right?

Why the hell is Riot buffing 2v1 with these new gold Items?
I dont get it.. they say they want the game to be faster paced, and then they put in free wards for all, and give you items that promote doing nothing but staying in lane all game?
I just... I dont get it... Someone tell me the S4 changes aren't as dumb as I feel like they are. Talk me off the ledge TL LoL. You have so much to keep playing for! Elise Skins! Uhm Halloween map return! Supports will be stronger and more useful!
Yeah, I dunno... Thing is they changing the two roles I like, and from what I have seen, I dont think I really like the changes.
I've always liked champs with well defined power curves. Panth, Nasus, Sona, Lulu etc. I feel like the majority of those champions just wont have that anymore, and will just be homogenized by the support gold changes.
The change to Wards is just dumb. Lol already has way to much vision. Against competent players you can never gank anyway when they have to pay for wards.
I havn't played DotA for probably 6 years now, I feel like I should just go play it, it seems to cater to the things I enjoy/want out of LoL anyway.

Yeah, but I have no experience playing as Renekton, I can only go based upon what I see on various streams and on stuff like OGN Champions and various other daily/weekly pro level events and theorize from there.

what's that supposed to mean anyone has kill potential in the right circumstances nobody actually dies to renek early cause he just pushes with q
you need to be really fed to do shit with a champ like renek otherwise you're just a damage soak that's what he's trying to say i think

I don't think anything Riot does anymore will really keep players in lane (talking about competetive play). The main focus will still be to farm until major objectives come up and use that to snowball into more objectives. More gold will translate to teams contesting dragons earlier than before and therefore decreasing laning time. We've come a long way from season 2 where players just idly farmed. I think you might be overexaggerating how bad these changes might be. I don't think having more vision will promote farming but promote earlier contention of objectives imo.

Is anyone else watching nesl right now? It's Quantic vs. Curse - pretty entertaining.
Edit: Is there a tournament thread for this I missed?

I mean, Renek's one of the best viable 1v2 laners if you plan to actually send your jungler there and try to kill a member of the duo lane if the opportunity arise. Not so much the case with Shen or Zac for example, in the early levels. He's got cc, mobility, and good base damage.

Icefrog clearly is paying attention to LoL and trying to take elements of the game that have made it so successful.
Meanwhile, despite some of these systemic issues in LoL being things DotA dealt with 3-4 years ago (vision issues, support itemization), Riot is intent on copying bad ideas from other shit MOBA games that nobody likes or cares about (vision item slot from Smite, last-hit "assist" gold from Strife) rather than trying to use how DotA dealt with the issue as a starting point.

Yea, it's really been a comedy of errors - right from Cop not buying any items to start the game.

Problem is I need someone to teach me the DotA's.

If you can deal with crap from lol players you can deal with people in dota.

I despise this change more so than any other. It was already a stretch that they gave gold on harass damage, but now they want to give shared gold? I hoped it would never make it through, but considering that they announced it, it's a definite thing. There's not many people complaining about it either, which really scares me. I don't understand why people are accepting this change so easily.
