We have this conversation often, and my opinion remains unchanged.
Support and Jungle are "multiplicative carries". If your laners are doing well, you can propel them into victory very easily and make them stronger. However, if your laners are trash and getting stomped in 1v1s/2v2s.... well there's not much you can do, even if you abandon them and farm the jungle.
Sure, as a jungle you can camp a lane or two, but by that point it's generally just to get them caught up and you're putting yourself far behind by sitting around, and often it's too late anyway and that enemy Kass your mid fed is now out of control.

Welp, I finally won a lane against Leblanc as Lissandra.
I had to go Flask+3 > Null mantle > Negatron cloak > Chalice and take Barrier, but I won the goddamn lane.

I haven't had the pleasure of dealing with this lane yet, but this is likely how I would handle it.
Liss's base damages are good enough to build pretty much whatever you need, and as long as you don't lose the lane to LB, all should be right in the world.

That's because you're looking at isolated cases when all your laners are trash.
What if just one of them is trash? There is definitely room to outplay as jungler.
As for support, there is a ton of room to outplay in the midgame even if it does go horribadly for you. Vision control is so important and there are still so many bad supports who think ruby sightstone is the only warding item they need. Even if your team is lacking in the intelligence department, having vision will subconsciously drive them towards correct decisions, whereas not having vision usually leads to a lot of unnecessary high-risk low-reward situations that never pan out.

Don't forget calls. Calling while playing support/jungler seems more fitting and will often lead to victory post-early game if you play champions with game-changing abilities .

I have an easier timer getting the sheep to follow me when I play a tanky champion with hard engage capabilities like J4/Zac though. If I cant engage fights by myself and force them to fight they'll run around like headless chickens :/
