All the maps (and high-level 2v2 matches) I've seen are either on normal 4-player maps with corner spawns, or BGH. BGH aside, on normal corner spawn maps, it usually just turns into a lot of 1 base play since it's so hard to defend expansions with the teams separated. It'd be cool to see maps that make macro games more likely. Do maps like what I'm describing exist/are there casts or replays of games by good players on them?
2v2 maps which are SC2 style with teams together?

You can take a look on this Youtube channel (he is the admin of the Zero Clutter League and uploads good replays and streams it himself sometimes too), if this suits you: https://www.youtube.com/@FalcoNraideN/videos (f.e. )P.s. Their community is really toxic and BM tho, so gotta ignore the chat most of the times, just as an PSA.

Iron curtain if you both spawn on the same side is the closest to what you describe. But since you can only force spawn in UMS, it will not work for mainstream unless shieldbattery or blizzard embeds it straight into the client. That s been the historical reason. Also note sc2 2v2 is garbage with mostly such maps and has been since inception during the 2010 beta. You can try having one UMS (make one, even) in BW and run a tournament on it to see what ll happen.

Also, the map pack in this thread claims to have some: https://tl.net/forum/brood-war/642386-map-pack-for-3v3-4v4-ffa-games

I've watched very little SC2, and don't really play, but the 2v2 games I've seen (like in the uthermal tournament) have been way more fun to watch than the 1v1s, and also more fun to watch than the BW 2v2s I've seen. Is it much less fun to play than watch? I get that it's probably imbalanced, but I don't really expect 2v2 to be very well balanced in any game whose multiplayer is always gonna be focused around 1v1s.

This one is OK https://acodcha.github.io/sc/4players/melancholy Or try this one, for 3v3 games if you can get 6. https://tl.net/forum/brood-war/521790-map-6redheart-bridge-3v3

I get that it's probably imbalanced, but I don't really expect 2v2 to be very well balanced in any game whose multiplayer is always gonna be focused around 1v1s. I haven't played lotv much so maybe my take is outdated. I was a 2v2 player in bw pre sc2, and transitioned over onto sc2. Played in the esl cups a lot and reached far. The games very quickly become super repetitive at high level. Now lotv s macro change may have fixed some of the issues i don't know. But back then it got stale real fast.balance was also a bit meh but that s a bit harder to quantify. Map variety is good for 2v2 and the sc2 maps have been stuck in the same format for a decade. Maybe it s because i just prefer BW but 2v2 very quickly died out on sc2 both in korea and the west outside random one off events. Compare with nearly a decade of 2v2 in bw proleague, 2v2 still existing in bwcl and nation wars to this day. One of the key aspects of 2v2 (imo) is how you interact with your allies, the constant calls you have to make to help them hold or counter, possible flanks etc. Constant small army movement and scouting. All of these are much less relevant with shared bases and "free" naturals. They are there but it s somewhat artificially held back. Not sure that makes sense ^^

By contrast, I definitely don't love how SC2 1v1s are all on these honeycomb base style maps, which feel boring and same-y to me.
