OGN had a secondary tournament running in the background for the regionals sake...GSL has been single elim forever as well. I'm aware of this. I'm just saying that league structures used in Asian tournaments are amenable to double elim formats. On October 01 2012 07:30 elementz wrote: TBH double elim to me has always felt greety from the side of tournament organisers to get in more show time to show everyone. The advantages of double elim vs. single elim have always been fairly clear: single elim saves you a round of play (allowing you to start running Bo3/Bo5 stages earlier), and in return sacrifices the ability to properly resolve placements for rankings below the top 3 (because outside of the top 3, the probability of a team placing below what's representative of their actual ability due to bracket luck becomes extremely high). The thing is, in the vast majority of tournaments, this is an acceptable tradeoff because those events do not give out prize money for any placement beyond the top 3 spots. It does not matter that spots 4-12 were ranked incorrectly. Now here's the thing: this is completely unlike these World Championships. Riot is paying out different prize values for every level of elimination. This means it actually MATTERS to resolve team placement below the top 3 because it has a signficant effect on how the prize money is paid out.

How many other mid plane players can even play half of those champions at a competitive level? For Invictus, should be mid lane (I hope).

I'm a CLG fanboy since forever, hopefully they do well in this tournament though few expect them to. Looking forward to the event. Imo the format sucks but whatever, hopefully season 3 will be much better.

M5 and TSM both play such insanely aggressive map dominance-early game styles that I don't think the Asians will be able to handle it. When M5 grabs everyone at 7 minutes, 5-man dives your bottom lane and picks up your blue buff/dragon what is IG or Naijin gonna do? lose, thats what. Am going to be cheering for my CLG.eu the whole way. ^^ PS: I'd forgotten how awesome that Carmac/Scarra interview was, ten minutes of laughter all over again.

If you think that kind of style is exclusive to M5 and TSM, you haven't been watching enough Asian LoL recently. Or not respecting how much of TSM's recent early-aggression style was learnt after losing to Azubu Blaze playing an early-game oriented style. The biggest liability for TSM and M5 going into this tournament is their lack of experience playing with/on other regions. Compared to the other qualifiers from their regions, they have vastly less cross-continent playing experience (Dignitas, CLG.EU, and CLG.NA all have much greater experience playing in overseas events). It's also potentially an asset given that they also have not exposed fairly little of their playstyle to teams in other regions, but IMO there's much more to be gained from having cross-continent play experience than to be lost. That said, it's also an ENORMOUS advantage for both teams that they are seeded into the Ro8--and the two Asian Ro8 seeds are arguably much weaker than the teams most likely to make it out of groups.
