I don't really get where this intense response is coming from, so I'm quite curious. Is it the case that yOu are just as enraged at people who only want the skin, as ppl who want the forum badges as well?
Elo is not a measure of skill, though there's a correlation, but a measure of progress and effort. The end of season rewards should be rewarding that effort, not a player's ability to find a gold/platinum/diamond ranked 5s team or pay someone to do an Elo job. It shouldn't surprise anyone that the players who put in the effort to improve and climb would feel sour about other players gaming the system.
It's like an experience I had climbing Mt. Washington. After a long day's hike I was the first in my family to reach the top by a substantial margin. Despite being weary from the climb, it felt great to achieve something. Then my reverie was interrupted by an overweight man in a Hawaiian shirt, Bermuda shorts, and flip flops because he wanted to take a picture of his high heel-sporting, mini skirt-wearing wife next to the sign.
I moved out of the way, but I was bitter and angry. All they'd done to deserve that picture was fill up their SUV's gas tank and drive up the tourist road, and they had the nerve to tell an exhausted, hard-working hiker to get out of their shot. I've never returned to Mt. Washington as a result.
Shortcuts cheapen the accomplishment of others. They can't change the fact that I reached platinum through my own skill, but they can change the context. The value of my achievement will be muddled by those who abuse the system.
Hopefully this sheds some light as to why certain people might respond with a degree of intensity.

I want the skin, I'm not going to come on here and say "omg my ranked team is higher elo than yours nub", that'd just be dumb. I'd love to get the skin legitimately, and I'll do my best to reach that, but I really wouldn't feel guilty if I got an otherwise free skin by a "non-totes-legit" method. Lol I totally did that to Shake last night 'cause I already have gold 3s and he didn't (yet).
Yeah to be completely honest I don't plan on welfaring at all. I'd much rather earn my rewards and be proud of it; fuck what other people do. As was already said, people on TL will know if you got elo jobbed or not, and it's up to you if you want to flaunt it or not, or whether you're just doing it for rewards or not. I'm sure it's going ot cheapen it for a lot of people but that's just how these things go. There's really no good way around it. At least Riot made it so people have to put in a LITTLE effort for their elo jobs (earning 5 wins with a new team).
(I'n personally just slightly annoyed that the rest of one of my teams are going to be getting gold when it was just 3 of us that earned it; 5 other people on our team are getting free rewards. Whatever they're friends but still...)

I dunno, he must be at least somewhat good despite your accusations since he was holding his own in 3s with Yiruru/Shake yesterday. Just Devil's Advocate-ing 'cause it makes me sad when Mommy and Daddy fight.
In any case, maybe not the right place to post this, but it seems as though my 5s team isn't really playing much and I'd like to hit gold across all queues if possible. Anyone want to try with me? (I also might try for plat 3s if I can convince my scumbag friends to log on but meh...)

I don´t see any reason to boost up to plat or dia, that´s more of a personal accomplishment as there is no real reward of any value. Don´t see the reason to be mad about it either tbh.
the problem is elo = credibility. the skins/rewards are ment to be sth to show that off. being mad at it is an overreaction but cheating waters the rewards down quite a bit.
in the end there is no fair system. neither in leagues nor in tournaments. Personally I have the most fun when I'am playing with equally skilled people, can make some good plays and improve my game. That is what the game and the system does well though, so the skins/rewards really do not mean much in the end. Current, consistent elo on a solid number of games is where it's at.

Mmmmm, that makes a lot of sense for diamond and plat players. Gold a bit less so, but I suppose the original thing game from gtr offering diamond ofr plat team, so fair enough.

It is kind of shameful to ask other people to boost your elo for you to hit tier levels. The achievement is fairly meaningless if it wasn't accomplished by yourself. Also it is pretty funny that he advertises himself as a jungle expert but plays 400 elo lower than his reported amount...

ELO matches you up against people of your approximate skill level, sure, but that never necessarily means that you know shit about the game.

Why everyone hating wtf guys.
Can't you guys go to like reddit for this shit?

FUUUUU, the original MF makeover! I'm not sure if I'm glad she looks awesome or sad that my bought skins are no longer awesome in comparison.
|
Do we even know what the skin looks like..? I don't see it on lolking. @___@ What if it looks like crud? Then someone's wasted money boosing for a terrible looking Janna skin. Lolol.

With all this talk of gold rank on 3's, can anybody drop the download on the current best comps and how the map works in general? I'd like to try it with some friends
|
I carry myself to gold with nunu jungle. It works nicely.
|
I'd like to get the Janna skin, but not enough to go through proper methods to get it. Got to admit though, if it was the Worlds Riven skin instead... I'd be running around asking everybody.

It is that time of the season again... maybe I should reopen my "Gold 4 everyone", nah Im not good so that would just suck for all off us
Anyways, like the new MF and Morg look (I pretty much like it everytime they change looks because it keeps the astetichs or w/e fresh). And love the new ranked icons, love the touch that as you get higher the jewel and jewel setting change

You can play with 1 top, 1 bot 1v2'ing and 1 jungler.
Good junglers:
Lee singa, trundle, shaco, udyr, nunu
Good 1v2'ers (from personal experience)
GP (max orange, farm all day) Yorick, Trundle, Vlad, Nunu
Good top laners:
Every bruiser in the game
Ban-worthy champs:
Mundo, singed, darius, trynd, poppy (fuck poppy seriously), nunu

well not every player has the same skillset. higher elo just means you played better up to this point. what makes your play better is another question. some are more aware, some are more precise and some have better strategies etc. But I'd say it is extremely uncommon for a player to be weaker in any area than a player with significantly (let us say 300 points) lower elo. Just from the fact that playing with better players improves all your weak areas as well. It common that tryhard players overestimate themselves so they believe they are better at 'knowing shit' and similar vague stuff.

That's fair, and I would never say that I personally know more/can play better than anyone here, even if they're at the same ELO as I am. However, when it comes to discussions like we have, I find it's better to actually weigh what's being said and look at math/analytic examples rather than just blindly accept what someone says as true because they're Gold/Plat/Diamond/insert ELO number here. It's likely that I'll listen as much to an unranked individual as a 2k player if he brings up compelling arguments and acceptable theorycrafting. (And that's actual compelling arguments, not "I won 10 games with TF/PD/PD Hec lol")
