600 range of Abyssal means that Ashe can auto attack further than Abyssal reaches. Which means that practically any skill shot will be outside of Abyssal range. Ryze's Q has 50 more range than Abyssal reaches now lol.
Essentially if you build it on anyone that isn't Amumu, Galio, maybe Kennen it's probably a waste. Oh and Malphite.

It's definitely a waste on Galio. His Q has very long range.

His Q/E aren't going to benefit from it more often than not. :/ They basically removed one of the most common alternatives as a viable item. It's also one of only two MR-AP items, and the only one without silly amounts of mana regen accounting for a huge portion of the cost.
It's also really fucking hard, even for a "in your face" character, to get the TEAM to benefit from the -MR aura, because enemies are already trying to avoid you being in their face.

I'm assuming that item auras work the same as skills do. Auto attacks have slightly higher range than spells due to how they work. Like a spell with 600 range doesn't have as much range as Ashe's autos do.
There's a red post somewhere about it after Ori's nerfs because people thought that her Q got ninja nerfed since she could auto attack further than Q traveled.
Regardless, it's still a stupid nerf imo. Deathcap is a way more powerful item than Abyssal that gets built even more frequently, I dunno why Riot felt the need to nerf Abyssal and not Dcap.

Abyssal way overnerfed. 750 range or similar would have been perfect. Most skillshots still outrange it that way and with typical ap positioning you will often miss out on the aura in teamfights.

Yeah, auras and ability ranges are measured from the center of the champion but autoattack ranges are measured from the edge of their model

abyssal nerfs make sense... you weren't supposed to get massive damage from a defensive item. it's supposed to make bruisers do more magic damage and give an aura. not really meant to be a go-to item for mids. the nerf is good imo

The Diana nerfs might actually slow down her pre-6 jungle a little bit. Nothing major, just she might actually have to back after full route rather than being able to continue easily.

The only thing holding Gragas back before the buff was that his laning could be a bit rough at times. After the buff, he was incredibly strong (and largely went unnoticed except at higher elos). These nerfs are perfectly reasonable, and Gragas will still be a very good mid.

Honestly this seems to be a great example of Riot's design philosophy. DCap is an item designed as a universal AP caster item, while Abyssal is designed as a niche item. It became used almost universally so they nerfed it. Same with supports getting nerfs when they got play mid.
Riot has a clear idea of what they want items and champions used for and will nerf/buff as needed to keep things in their defined roles. This is opposed to just throwing stuff out there and letting the players figure it out/do whatever feels right. It's easy to see how this can rub players the wrong way but I can also see the designer's viewpoint as well (wanting to keep control over how their creations are used).
