The scaling on his Q however seems pretty huge. minimum scaling of 1.0 and 1.6 on max charge gives him a lot of damage midgame. Add in something akin to a short ranged ashe ult for chasing and im really looking forward to him.

Maybe it's because he doesn't really have a role. He's sort of a tank, sort of a bruiser, sort of a caster. Not necessarily the best at any of those roles, yet still completely awesome because he isn't weak in any of those regards either. Can't be easily ganked or quickly focused like a normal squishy caster, he puts out more damage than your normal tank, and has more utility than most bruisers.

I only ask because I never see him in the featured spectator games, and I always thought he was kind of ridiculously OP. Maybe it's because he doesn't really have a role. Only Sion that has been actually good or viable is ap sion, ad bruiser sion just gets kited and fails. Sion just isn't popular mid anymore, he's super snowball and his roaming shut down by smart play. He's still viable tho.

sion in general has been hit pretty hard by nerfs in the past and can be countered by a lot of mid champs. if you look at everything AP sion does mid (clears creeps fast -> high mobility ganks), you can see that other champs like ahri can do the exact same thing + are stronger in lane + more mobile/have better escape abilities + are much stronger late game (AP sion late game -> once your shield is popped, you're basically screwed). plus people have been warding a lot more now (especially bottom lane), which is a sort of soft-counter to sion ganks since his gank paths are pretty predictable. that said he's probably still pretty good at low elo.

Hard hitting stun, huge do-all health shield, both scale really well with AP, and yet he can still do some bruising (and healing) with his ult. A great Lich Bane type champ. Just thought I'd see him more in the spectator games. Guess I'll have to look more. Edit: And yes, I can see how his mobility would be a factor.

Kill him at level 3. gg I'm tempted to say Kennen, but I actually feel that is a pretty even matchup overall.
