If you change that 1v3 to a 2v3 it is once again 3v3 fights... thing is the team with the trilane has the hardest scaling champ out of the current 1-1-2/jungle shenanigans that is standard in LoL. The constant factor is still that your supports HAVE to get kills in a trilane to not be completely fucked midgame. And making that happen reliably in LoL won't happen with the way the game is played currently.

In a competitive tournament setting where losing 1 game can eliminate you from the entire tournament, nobody is going to make a gamble like that. Even if the conventional 1-1-2+jungle, isn't necessarily better, it's SAFER. For roaming to be competitively viable, there needs to be some semblance of reliability to it. At this point, though, we have to question whether Riot would implement a mechanic that makes ganking *guarantee* kills.

A bit annoying yeah.. I'd just like games to be worth only 5-10 ELO, not 20-25 like they atm do (will go down eventually I know). I'm afraid of getting an unlucky streak and dropping to <1100 ELO but I'm kinda bored of normal games though. Idk, pointless post o/

I was new back then, I don't exactly remember why it became popular/pettered out. It became a problem because you ended up with an underleveled champion, even if you DID get kills. Not to mention this was the time before ad-support bot, so the 2 styles clashed until people realized that ad-support was just SAFER than anything else. It was post-ad support actually. I think the main reason people stopped doing it is because teams switched to instantly zoning the carry as soon as the roamer left, made it not worthwhile. For a while they were just sorta playing the lane normally while it was 2 vs 1, then they figured out they didn't have to.

At that point in time people were still playing AD carry solos mid/top. Generally roamers were played with reliable 1v2 heroes that are still used as 1v2s today when teams try to do top/bottom lane swap shenanigans. I don't think there really was a formal "clash" per se between roaming and AD/support bot lane. Roaming just sort of phased out over the weeks leading up to, and after Dreamhack, coinciding with nerfs to both to the roamers (e.g. Alistar, Evelynn) as well as the 1v2 heroes (e.g. Cho'gath).

It's still viable, M5 have roamed Alistar with success, the reason you don't see it as much is just because in solo queue it means your team has to pick a more specific composition which both requires some coordination in champ select, the right unlocks, and more importantly requires people to actually want to do it. Outside of a gimmick trilanes will never be successful in LoL. The supports are weaker at killing people and roaming, there's no denies, and junglers are way too strong.

Yango says this was during ad mid/top and Universal says it was after ad support got popular... Which is true? I say 1v1 mid to decide it was before Dream Hack, and one was popular in Europe and one was popular in North America. Dreamhack was when everything became what it is now, and was the turning point for the game. Solo que, you never ran ad/support bottom in NA at 1500 before DH, but 5 days later you would get flamed if you don't, and it's common practice now. I have also seen some crazy good roamers still, you just have to play in a different way than you normally would, and you have to make a strong effort to keep track of your lvls, make sure your not too far behind, and you also have to have a really strong player comfortable with 1v2 bottom lane vs a strong lane. Overall its not worth it for most pro teams to take the risk, and most scrubs aren't good enough, the few times ive ever roamed, my bottom lane lost horribly, and I didnt have any impact on the game at all, and fell behind really quick.. This was back before DH, so who knows how i would do now, but you really need to change your mind set and such I think.
