Well Xerath won't be good until he is played a lot. Even though he might be good now he won't be until he is overplayed. That's how this game works.

You know, let's get off this topic and talk about something else:
I don't actually really like Shyvana as a jungler. I think she's only working because M5 is catching people off guard, and their play is a lot more aggressive than people are used to. They make very risky plays because they're just at another skill level right now. Shyvana's not really that good as a champion. She takes too much farm, she needs to get ganks super early or else she's behind, and her late game isn't as good as other farm junglers (although support junglers will probably come back in style because it's stronger). It's just a dumb niche that she's in that isn't really going to be significant in a month or two.

I really don't understand this argument. Isn't being able to snipe people from 1500 range and being able to oneshot an entire team when extremely fed fun? (Exaggeration, but that's how he feels...)

Shyvana doesn't need ganks, counter jungle and get gold/xp from there. She does it so effectively that I realized I wasn't doing enough ganking after a while.

if he's fun to you, more power to you. Just a totally subjective opinion on why he's not played, based purely on my own experience with him, mirrored in part by some other members of the community. My biggest issue is with his spell effects, I think they really fell flat with the whole arcane/lightning-ish theme, making it look more like feathers than a force of nature.

I severely disagree.
Shyv ganks are devastating, but only if your partner(s) have the ability to lock down an enemy. Since she completely lacks any form of CC outside of her ult, she reasonably does a shit ton of damage.
And now that the jungle meta has shifted towards focusing on counter-jungling, Shyvana shines. Her clear times are the fastest(after Mundo maybe) meaning she can go and contest someone like Skarner or Nocturne at their red for example.
Her level 3 is also probably the strongest level 3 in the game for a jungler. If she lands the fireball, there goes a bunch of your armor+taking AoE damage+AAs+you have been bitten 2 times in a second.
Shyvana is a tanky mother fucker who has one of the best engages for a jungler as well. That ult is simply retarded to me. I tend to pick Trundle against her now, just so I can ult her when she decides to engage my team. Put up the pillar and now its pretty much a 1v5 with a weakened version of Shyvana.

What? I just... no...
How does she need ganks early when she the fastest Jungle farmer in the whole game aside from maybe Mundo? Unless you against Udyr/Mundo other jungler needs to gank otherwise they behind you in gold because you just way faster.
Not only that but Jungle invading is really good in arranged play, in solo queue, and Shyvana is just a really good dueler in general. The other thing is that Shyvana gets tanky as all hell without having to itemize resists at all. Late game Shyvana borderline unkillable. Ult in, eat every enemy ult, run away some how still alive and laugh as your team cleans up.
