Towers of doom: Jaina/Sylv/Thrall/Uther/Muradin(me) vs Nova/Gazlowe/Tyrande/Diablo/Greymane
Jaina rotates through the middle of the map EVERY single time. 10 deaths later and we lose with 1 HP left on their core. That 1 HP which had been there for 2 cycles of alters because Jaina got picked off EVERY single time. Thank you for the 150 points lost Jaina. You are a champion.
EDIT: Next game: 1.st pick: Tyrande 2.nd: Sylv I'm thinking this is looking pretty okay
3. Malfurion 4. Nova I'm considering whether it is easier to simply pull the cable or trying to play it out with a Muradin or Diablo pick while contemplating if it is possible to call down a curse upon someone over the internet.

34 minute game. Our Kael'Thas has under 40k hero damage. Take a guess how that one went.
|
You won?
In other news I broke my losing streak but I almost want to qq on behalf of the other team. Never seen such an atrocious Lunara - even pre-buff.
|
Was playing around with KT myself and noticed how compositions can affect how much damage he can put out. In game one on Towers of Doom we were up against three warriors and I had 40k hero damage before level 10 and 85k at the end although we still lost because Sylvanas just threw herself endlessy at them, dying 10 times. With so many melee targets I was able to constantly poke and deal damage. The next highest hero damage was around 55k on enemy Diablo.
In the following games on both Dragon Shire and Garden of Terror we had neither a tank or a healer and almost all heroes were ranged assassins. I had to be extremely careful getting any damage off without getting blown up myself. I avoided dying too many times but I ended up doing only 38k damage. Not sure if I was being too cautious or if the lack of proper teamfights had anything to do with it but the more melee KT is up against, the more his damage skyrockets. Obviously not having a tank to peel for him hurts as well. I'm also seriously wondering if in such a no-tank/no-healer game going for Pyroblast is an option. I've always gone for Phoenix and the enemy KT on Dragon Shire went for Pyroblast and got quite a few kills with it.
KT sure is more frustrating and painful to play in assassin/specialist only compositions because he just dies so easily. You want to get off those Living Bombs and Flame Strikes but then you risk instantly getting pounced with no escape. Facing Lunara in a no-healer game is also such a nightmare since she can just poke once or twice and then trigger the poison again.
Also, another Robo Goblin Gazlowe today. Damn it. Why do people take that. If I want to capture mercenary camps fast I'll go Sylvanas with Barbed Shot and Splinter Shot and still contribute way more to a teamfight than a Robo Goblin Gazlowe. I mean you have a KT on your team. Getting a Grav-o-Bomb off on the enemy team is KT's dream.

Queued up as Zeratul in a party of 4 in QM, got a solo queue Nova as our partner.
The entire time she was suiciding and BMing, to the point of hilarity. We tried to reason with her for a few minutes, and then she claimed she muted us (but still BMed us the entire time).
Despite her being shitty, we still won pretty handily. At the end of the game, all 5 of us were at the core. She makes one last snotty remark as the opponents' core is getting killed, so I void prison her by herself. She ends up getting picked off after the VP ends, right as my party of 4 finished off the core. Everyone cheered. Beautiful.

You didn't know that you would lose points for that? It's to ensure people don't quit if the draft doesn't turn out how the would like.

Take a hiatus from HotS for a bit, come back to the first game in a couple weeks.
I know it's going to be a bad time when three different people on my team are complaining that they want Nova. She ends up getting second picked.
One guy troll picks Abathur in response.
Guess how that game went.
Welcome back to the Nexus!
|
The first picks of the enemy team is abathur+murky. Later on they pick:
diablo raynor tyrande
One in my team think we have already won. "GG" he says, we won already. I have seen this before when someone just understimate the enemy team or arent experienced enough. Get a bad feeling about this.
Its on dragon shrine. Abathur+murky ends up dominating, sure murky dies but he also kills alot of heroes so thats very effecient for them. This guy who btw is valla says "i can deal with murky but i cant deal with murky with abathu". No really? You cant? Why be so sure of a win then.
We had two healers this game but i dont think that was terrible actually, just that we didnt team up well enough.

Well I know it sucks, but I don't see any real way around it which wouldn't be a) labor intensive b) easily manipulated.

Wow. Sylvanas players who take Possession and play like Gazlowe exist.
Avoid every teamfight - Check! Avoid the objective - Check! Solo push the bot lane dying to enemy team constantly - Check! State in chat that you 'atleast pushed lane' - Check! Do not manage to kill the enemy keep at the end of the game - Check! Have very low hero damage vs an enemy melee team - Check!
Now I will grant one tiny thing, she did actually push both mid and bot extensively the first time around with mercs during the second punisher and if she had rejoined the team once the forts were down, I would've be fine with it. But no. Solo bot lane. All day long. Whoever you are, please restrain yourself to only playing versus AI. I know it's creepy but there are four other players in something spooky called a team and they don't want a bot pushing a lane 24/7.

I have so far dropped from rank 22 to 32 in a span of two days. I heard match making was bad but this is brutal, I am sure I'm partly to blame for some of the losses and that I definitely could be better, for sure. But some of the people that end up on my team, like generally awful players, suiciders, afk, not wanting to pick support (or simply don't have a support hero), half the xp, contribution etc. I keep winning 1 game and losing 2, sometimes 5 and for some reason I never see the same level of incompetence on the opposing team, at least not as often.
It sucks because I have absolutely fallen in love with this game and I am trying to improve my own level, reading, listening to and watching every guide imaginable. But this is so frustrating.. I am sure at this point I will reach 40 in no time, not that it matters anyway if the games were close and fun.
I don't know if match making is really broken still or if I am just extremely unlucky or god forbid terrible and in denial, but it feels really off. I will stick with it though, hopefully this downward slope will even itself out eventually.

Yeah its painful when you start to really learn how the game works and get matched up with people who completely don't. Talent and hero picks can make or break the game and it can be so cringeworthy to see a game lost because players just took worthless talents that don't help the team one bit. Had a player who prepicked Rehgar in HL in a team with a Kerrigan. The team mentioned that Uther would be a better pick but if he was better with Rehgar to play Rehgar instead. He still picks Uther, proceeds to utterly suck with him and not pick ANY of the proper talents and starts whining he didn't get to play Rehgar. Sigh. I'd rather have had a good Rehgar than a bad Uther. Oh, and that guy had 3.5k games and all heroes on lvl 10 or higher. And he utterly, completely and totally sucked ass as Uther. Completely. Honestly, with that many games, how?

Sorry to answer that rhetorical question: 3000 AI games to farm levels for gold.

HL, last guy in the draft insta- prepicks Gazlowe. Great. Fortunately (or so I think), Gazlowe gets picked up by the other team, so our last guy switches to Raynor. And proceeds to do nothing but spam pings the whole game (he was muted). Didn't bother playing. I guess he was just so upset that he couldn't play as Gazlowe that he decided it was appropriate to waste everyone's time and points. So jksweet6, you're a douchebag.

I got that twice a few weeks ago (BTW thanks for remembering me to call my ISP this morning) and it hurts. Strange thing is the next win I got many bonus points, like the matchmaking was saying me "naughty kid you left a draft, but I still like you come on get your rank back it's all over now". It's infuriating because it's not our fault, but I think it's a good rule because I often see these disconnects around the end of a crappy draft or when 1 guy is AFK a long time.
> JacobShock > I think you can do 2 things. The obvious one is to build a strong 6-10 pool of strong heroes to adapt to each draft (strong = work them in QM and when you're at 66% or 75% win rate go HL). And tell your team you'll adapt if needed. That way you'll avoid these last picks who'll get Illidan no matter what leaving you without a healer for example. The less obvious one is to create a new account. It worked for a friend of mine stuck in low 30s. His MMR was kinda frozen and he wasn't strong enough to carry the team, but he can play 2 or 3 heroes at rank 10 level. He created a new account and got placed better, and managed to climb around rank 15 and now he's MMR is stable, but he plays at a level that fits him more.

When I dropped from rank 4 to rank 13, one thing I noticed that I did wrong was that I stopped communicating with my "bad team mates". The game is all about communicating and half of my recent losses come from me not guiding the team.
Yesterday I had a match on Cursed Hollow where we were slightly ahead, a tribute came up and I was thinking "We should contest that and use our advantage". Ally pings boss on the other side of the map, so everyone is moving to the boss and I follow without protest. Enemy Lunara sends a wisp to the boss that spots us, so I'm thinking "Bad idea, they are all up, we should run". Rest of team stays at the boss, so I stay there as well. Enemy team comes in and gets a 4 for 1 plus the boss and ends the game.
If I had stopped thinking and started talking, we would have won the match. Since my team mates weren't mind readers, we lost the match in one team fight.
It happens in most of the games we lose that I'm essentially silent and just think about what stupid thing we're just doing instead of actually providing the right guidance. Communication really is the key to ranking up.
|
This is a very valuable analysis. I think we all do that. We lose interest in others and communicate less, therefore hurting the team.
So, last week 1 needed that victory to get rank 1 for the first time. Our first two picks are Kerrigan / Greymane so it was almost lost when they picked 2 warriors and hammer. Ok, troll game, shit happens. Today same situation, we win and I'm rank 1. Maps is Towers, we easily dominate them. Then mid game Diablo goes AFK 2 full minutes. He could maybe warn us so that we play safe and try to delay but no in the middle of a won fight he backs behind the fort and never comes back so we get crushed. So after a few errors from everyone because him leaving hurted everyone's play, we go back to dominating them but their lead on objective was just too big, they just had to get 1 out of 3 towers. I really feel I'll never be rank 1. Those 2 games where just troll games. I'd like to get back to the quality games I had before them.
BTW 3/3 games with KT (not necessary on my team) today and he won all 3.
