Coming from DotA, thats pretty god damn expensive.

If you have to pay to unlock playable characters its pay2win. atm it's the same as league: you can grind out currency in game to purchase both cosmetics or heroes, or you can buy it with USD or whatever. thats still p2w imo IMO, your definition of pay to win sort of sucks. Paying to unlock characters is fine as long as they are app reasonable balanced.

if you have access to 10 heroes, and they have access to every hero, they have a large advantage over you

More options doesn't mean better options. Any advantage the extre options provides is negligible.

I feel like we have passed the era of people trying to simplify Dota and have gone into trying to simplify LoL, the problem with this game is that Dota players don't play LoL because it doesn't have the depth that they want. While LoL players won't play this blizzard thing because it doesn't have the depth they like in LoL. I really don't see the market for this game.

People said a lot of the same things about Hearthstone, that it didn't have enough depth to attract CCG players. Yet, where it is, doing fine. Heroes isn't targeted at players who want a super competitive experience. There are games out there that handle that. Its focused on providing a 15 minute game that is more accessible. It may not have the mechanical depth of a Dota or LoL, but that doesn't make it a terrible game.
Games are first and for most designed to be fun and entertaining. All this competitive and Esports stuff comes afterwords.

Why for gods sake did they put the minimap on the right side of the interface?
|
Looks and plays like ass IMHO, probably wont touch it any further. If other people have fun with it that's fine though, obviously.
|
They don't care about attracting hardcore dota players who don't want to spend any money anyway. If Blizzard care about a competitive scene, Riot already proved that you can have a good competitive scene with a model like this.
I don't know if HOTS will be the next big thing but there's probably a big market for a more casual moba that's easy to learn and doesn't take up a lot of your time. Even LoL which people regard as appealing to casual players is pretty hardcore compared to most games out there.

No. No its not.

I'm only fearful of the balance, other than that; I am interested in how much interest this will gauge.

I hope you can disable the unit border glow. That and the range finders for all the skills. I feel like it pollutes the animation way too much, definitely makes it look way too LoL like. I think I would be able to enjoy the game if this were the case.

Are there rune pages/masteries like in League? If not then the having to pay/grind to unlock is merely restrictive. If the heroes behind the paywall are objectively better in some way, then it's pay to win.

Can anyone explain Abathur?
I saw Tasteless play it and all his time was spent controlling another hero. What is the other player doing at this time?
|
Abathur can put a symbiote on another hero (on like a 4 second cooldown) that shifts your vision to that player, and gives you the ability to do stuff from your symbiote. (single-target skillshot q, AoE w, shield E). So your teammate is just doing whatever it is they're doing, and you're firing junk off from above their head.
Your ult gives you a temporary clone of one of your teammates, and after 10 seconds you have access to their ultimate as well. (Double Raynor battlecruisers won a few games this evening backdooring)
In addition to that, since you spend a lot of time just in base controlling other heroes, he spawns locusts to support your lanes, and can place mines when he's not controlling someone. Instead of a mount, he can teleport on a 30s cooldown.

Abathur sits back in your base and infects a friendly character (hero or creep) with a parasite that can then use abilities remotely. Or he can create a copy of another hero and control that one. And lay mines, create locusts and other stuff.

I'm really intrigued by this not being a buy boots, dance behind monsters that lasts for 1 hour game. I really like what I've seen so far.

Played a few games, was bored the entire time. Just not my cup of tea, would much rather engage in the complexity and competitive nature of dota/LoL.
Seems as though blizzard is moving away from competitive esports into the arena of casual games, so while I won't be playing any of them I wish them luck.
