Why should I care about the trade-off between convenience/time and real money, when I've just loaded into a game with one team (it could be your team or the opponent's team) is at an unfair disadvantage? I don't, because it doesn't make the unfair disadvantage go away. Whether or not I continue to play HotS, whether or not it's a buy-unfair-advantages-with-real-money game, will very likely be determined by what Blizzard announces about ranked mode later today.
There's always a good hero in the rotation, play Arthas Nazeebo and Stitches. The main problem at the moment is the lack of a draft mode because the only flaw is you can solo q into teams without healers a tank or dps heroes. (Draft should be brought out at blizzcon since it's already there in the game mode picking)

Blizzard created a game where they took the concept of classic mobas and changed some of the core ideas of it. They changed the rules so much that other aspects of the classic concept that were all directly connected and dependent on each other, do not work anymore (wow, that was abstract!). I am speaking about lanes and creeps. In my opinion HotS doesnt need lanes or creep waves. It doesnt work anymore, with the other changes made. Creep waves and lanes are just a limiting (boring) factor at the moment. It feels "forced". Why not step away from those core ideas aswell? Create a game where players can compete for map objectives, fight for creeps (not creep waves!) and destroy structures of the enemy.
In even games missing a creepwave can lose you the game, damn those catapults. But most of all they are there for the atmosphere, showing you hey theres a war going on. It was something alot of RTS players were interested in, if you look at all the custom maps done in Warcraft 3, to be only a small part of a large scale war going on everywhere. Denying creeps is an interesting mechanic, but I would say games focused way to much on it, as its rather boring. In Heroes they are just weak meatshields you can't control. They protect you from certain skills, they help some heroes as well. They are just there to mix up the game a tiny bit so it doesn't become stale and are not the deciding factor if your team will be superior equip after 20 minutes. Also Heroes might come with a map editor of some sorts and no one will stop anyone from trying things out.

I'm starting to like this game more and more. I compared it to dota2 too much in the beginning, and it's just not very good at that kind of gameplay. You just can't beat dota in that regard, that game has like 10 years development behind it and is just amazing at what it does.
But this game, I love how fast and fluid everything is. I see it more as a great PvP mod for Diablo3 now. It's the same kind of gameplay, fast paced, trying to optimize your dps by hitting all your skills in time. Combined with teamwork and map awareness from dota. The short average game time is a great bonus. I find myself thinking I could have played 33% of a hots game in the time you just pick your heroes in dota :o.
I wonder how the lineups work with versus mode though? Sometimes you get triple tank and 2 specialist or something. If the enemy has double assasins and a good tank healer combo it's so hard to win because you're kill potential sucks while they can nuke you down easy. And I still hate the dragon map.

Is it public now or was I lucky? It suddenly shows up on my account.

i'm curious how actual "epic" games are supposed to happen, i watched some esv cup games with big comebacks but it's just nothing compared to dota or even lol

Im wonderind that as well. I've had some cool games, epic you could say, in which we make a comback, or trade bases or make really good plays and stuff, but i wonder if the objectives itselfs makes epic games more difficult. Its kid of hard i think to make an epic play when you are just pushing/defending against a giagant plant.
But maybe i'm just not good enough.

If you got outplayed early on and can't seem to close the gap then well ... you are done. Considering the game length I think it doesn't hurt it as a viewable-game because when in Dota/Lol you have Bo1 or Bo3 you can do Bo3 or Bo5 instead in HOTS. In general the game position seems more comparable to Starcraft.
Did you messed up big times at some point in the game you are not likly to win and your opponent will just grow the gap.
And epic comeback-plays can still be possible but are way harder to achieve.

Basically in LoL or DotA, once you get past ~60 minutes or so, 1 fight determines the game because the other team can take towers so quickly that they can end the game during death timers.
That happens around 30 minutes in HotS. Seems less epic because it's less time, but it's the same principle.
Added myself to the player list.

8 win streak with Illidan getting hero of the storm twice, until I get into the 3.5k MMR range I won't make a judgement on whether he's balanced or not. My build: Seasoned Marksmen Immolation First Aid The Hunt Giant Killer Second Sweep The Hunt
I'm going to test switching First aid for follow through. (It didn't go badly, but I can't tell if it was better worse or the same)

how do u check ur mmr in thsi game? o.o

hotslogs
google it
(its a 3rd party site that just approximates your MMR, doesn't actually "know" it from blizz)

So Jainna and Thrall are the new heroes eh. Excited for a Wizard class!
Edit: Oops, forgot about the Lost Vikings.

Would anyone be interested in forming an actual team here?
Nothing too serious, just 5 guys playing together on a regular basis to both have fun and improve, and see where it goes. I'm definitely up for it!
If anyone would like to get started on this endeavor with me, do pm me!
Mostly looking for laidback people who don't rage too much, so do abstain, Serejai. (just joshing).

Cool stuff. I added myself on it, and added other players from EU.
Let's get something going!
