There's no mechanism in ranked mode that equalizes the hero pool used in the draft between both teams. So the game gives people who buy more heroes with real money an unfair and undeserved advantage, by being able to more readily pick the best hero for the situation given both team's current picks. "Hero selection is where the strategy begins." No shit. That's because picking the right hero matters, it can be critical for determining whether you win or lose. The game officially allows people with real money to buy an advantage, which is pay to win.

Oh that's good. I was looking at screenshots of the pick phase and it only showed the map after heroes were locked in. Must've missed something In terms of pay to win, you need to be account level 30 to play ranked, akin to LoL. You'll have a lot of gold by then to buy an ample amount of heroes, so it won't be as big of a problem as you make it to be.

But what I expect doesn't change the fact that hero picks matter (which is why they're adding it), and hence HotS now allows people to buy advantages with real money, which is pay to win

Don't hand-wave this. There are good reasons from a design and business perspective Dota2 has open hero pool. Don't debate someone saying it is P2W and then ask for the last word by invoking thread rules dude.

Why are people shocked by this, as if it was going to be any other way? Its not perfect, but Blizzard isn't making the game for charity or to get people to install their own personal GameSpot their computer. This is 100% what I expected given what we've seen of their design so far. Only one poster in this thread was unsure about it. It's a bad design for reasons I think we've discussed (but we can rehash them now if necessary) including why the League comparisons are actually quite bad.
