Gamers can be so desperate. The Reddit Community is way to toxic as it is. Good if they WOULD stay away. All they do is whine about keys and the fact that Europe hasnt gotten an invite yet. They do have a point though, that giving multiple keys to internet semi-celebreties - now asking to lick their feet for a key - is a bad thing to distribute the keys. I don't get why Blizzard sends keys around instead of simply attaching them to accounts, like they have done before. Yep. Some of these streamers aren't even that popular. Be a girl, stream 2-3 hours a day, have enough viewers for free beta keys. Reckful was probably 90% of WoW's popularity as it was. Then I'm talking to my old arena mates, and people with incredible in-game achievements are getting totally shafted. Seems legit. it's popularity. has nothing to do with achievement or level at which you played. 6 years at the top of the US raiding scene for me lol. not that I mind, just saying it obviously isn't a factor. if I had streamed, i'm sure it'd be different. it does make sense to give the streamers themselves keys so everyone can see the game, but then giving them more is kind of a bummer model.

I too would love for Blizz to hand out keys based only on merit and loyalty. Can you imagine the people who felt entitled based on that criteria but did not receive a key? The drama would be explosive.

what the hell is a promotions tab? I use gmail and I've never seen such a thing!

Of course Blizzard is going to hand out codes to the folks they have worked with before and let them promote their game, while also letting the streamers make a little money while they are doing it. It benefits both parties and lets everyone get a preview of the game.
People who don’t want to “lick the boots” of the internet personalities can just wait in line like everyone else. I am happy those people on reddit are opting out off all the contests and not watching streams. Its more likely that I will get a code, which is great for me because the game looks like fun.

The picture above shows you want it is. Depending on your setting in Gmail, it might not have set one up for you yet, but its an advance filter system that moves emails to specific places. Its pretty dope.

edit; ok I just turned on those tabs, meh. turned them off. I don't use this gmail for much and just filter unread first, I don't see the point. oh well, thanks for showing me though!

You have to tell Gmail to do it and you should. It makes Gmail SO much better. Its like a really smart sorting system for your email.

Seen multiple people on reddit that made over 200 battle.net accounts to try to get into the beta. Success rate ranging from 0 keys to 6 keys. This is the problem with letting battle.net accounts with no games attached to them opt in. And I thought having three accounts for SC2 would give me a better shot, LOL.

Their justification for allowing accounts without games to get keys is that the game is intended to be free to play. Given that accounts without keys are allowed to opt in, I think it's an absolute given that there are people out there making hundreds of accounts to get keys. Especially since keys are going for hundreds of dollars at the moment.

Quite logical they allow accounts with no games to get keys. 1. Blizzard wants this game to catch a broader, more casual audience too. 2. People from EU should not be required to buy games on their fake US accounts to get into beta.

I am sure we are going to get some anecdotal evidence from people who claim they got 5 keys this way, but I don't know how effective this can be. I am pretty sure it is just as easy for Blizzard to see all the new accounts being made an opting in and putting them in low priority.

You are correct on that as well. And if they plan to do a big push in a couple of weeks where lots more people get in, it is likely a non-issue for them.

I think what sets Trump apart from the average arena player is knowing when not to overextend. Maybe there's more to it, but that seems to be the biggest factor.

Pretty clever of the team. Spread rumors about accounts with no games attached to get beta keys, give a few known braggers (or be the braggers yourself) some keys that tried this and then proceed to sell keys over the internet and wait for money coming from the deck buys as well.
Just kidding of course, but slowly game devs should learn that closed betas even for a f2p game, make alot of people do stupid things in order to get their hands on it or to profit from it. But I guess thats what the "Early Access" thing is for on steam. Valve knows how to get payed for people testing their games and people not minding at all.

No sorry, i still don't see how is that a justification to catch legit broader casual audience, when what it does is promote account spamming and selling betas (something the casual dude, won't bother with). But to be honest, i don't even know if that's true and people withouth games attached can get into the beta.

If they didn't clamp down on it before sending down this "large wave of opt-ins," they're not going to. Nothing about how they've sent out beta keys is an oversight, it's 100% a PR move designed to generate hype that is, like many Blizzard marketing techniques, also generating massive ill-will.

Seems streamers just got more keys, next wave of ridiculous "giveaways" incoming.

Blizzard gets ill will just by existing and releasing games, regardless of their actions. Just like EA gets vote the evil company on earth over the Blackwater group. These claims are totally anecdotal anyways, so we should take them for what they are, baseless rumor.

Would you prefer a lottery system like the draft in WW2?
