Some third world countries are reported to have people with lower intelligence. Around 70 or less. Not because they have stupider people, because many of the people don't know how to read and write and do not engage in mentally stimulating activities because of long work and family. Without using a number to define you, as sites like hotornot and ratemypic have shown people love, intelligence is actually the neural concentration in your brain. What do you think is genius? Awesome memory, good at puzzles, ability to read and go through tons of knowledge? Most of what people perceive as genius is simply discipline, and obsession to ideals. Speed math? Yeah you can get speed math, and speed reading too. Find tricks to memorize and read about intelligence from a newscientist article. Genius to me is the people who know what's really common and don't rely on others for validation and appreciation. People who act are rare, and people looking for some number, or norm to define them best are common. Neural concentration is correlated to stimulus. Use your brain more and have it become more active. It's that simple. Stimulate all 5 senses when you can and pay attention. Enrich yourself by learning mathematics and music theory, and local laws and rights so when things happen, you'll have a deeper understanding. When a chessmaster plays a game, and a beginner plays a game of chess, it's the beginner that actually is shown thinking harder, because everything is foreign. It's not how much you practice but also what you practice. If it doesnt feel uncomfortable and complicated, it's likely using much less brain activity. Make things complicated, and look further. The more familiarity you have with mathematics problems and the english language, the more you will increase your IQ, which invalidates the test to begin with. It's matter of effort and how much you can put into bettering yourself. Does your job really give you more skills everyday, or are you just in a cycle of busywork? Money is worth very little compared to time and intentions. Schools don't teach mastery, they teach short term memorization so the students are prepared to do busy work jobs. They're a creation for mass population efficiency management, so kids can have a place to go for a good while while parents are at work. If you ever get in an argument or start talking about intelligence, don't be all arrogant and prove your stupidity by throw out a number. Deh indernet says I smart at 155IQ!! der der den they try to sell me my score. Point to something you can do, your education, or some accomplishment. If I took a poll where people said honestly what their IQ is, the average would be 140. So if you're going to brag, say it's 210 or something, which would be equivalent of genius once the IQ has been adjusted up to fit the average bragger scale. If at first you score low, try a different test. If you succeed tell your friends... and thus is the evolution of only the stupidest tests, getting popular.

press "start testen" at the end then calculate using 15 spread while this isn't a professional test (as specified), it's the by far best internet test i have taken. I also took a test for the army where they didn't give us a specific iq, just a score from 1-9. (however I did hear that only 2% get 9 which would make it about the equivalent of 130+) ![]() one of the annoying things about iq is how many people have no idea what spread their iq test was using. if it is a reputable test, the spread should always be included, because the numbers are so significantly different. (130 on 15 spread equals 148 on 24 spread.. ) pretty much every single internet iq test is just plain bullshit tho and while I certainly believe that the tl.net average iq is higher than average, and also the fact that people who score highly on iq-tests are the ones who are likely to both press this kind of thread, as well as submitting their answers to the poll, 44% of the site being among the 2% smartest is obviously bullshit nothing groundbreaking psychologically about discovering that everyone puts themselves in higher regard than what should be the case tho. ![]()

I think people need a quick clarification of the IQ scale so they understand what your IQ means. The IQ scale is designed to be a normal guassian distribution with 100 being the mean and 15 being the standard deviation. This means that the average person would have an iq of 100. Due to the way the guassian distribution is done, 68.2% of people fall within 1 standard deviation of the mean. Meaning that 34.1% of people are between 85-100 and 31% of people fall between 100-115. 26% of people fall between 1 and 2 standard deviations from the mean. So 13% of people have IQ of 70-85 and 13% have IQ of 115-130. Finally, 4.4% of people are outside 2 standard deviations from the mean. Meaning that 2.2% of people will have an IQ of over 130 and 2.2% of people will have an IQ under 70

IQ 138, second test administered by Orange County Ohio school board when I was 8. Average IQ is scaled to 100 and the standard deviation is scaled to 15. Internet sites, even Mensa's don't do this. Below 60 is classified as retarded. Most tests administered by schools don't offer scaling above 150. My mom is a school psychologist. She actually administers IQ tests almost daily. If you play with blocks a lot or have your multiplication and addition tables memorized you do a lot better on IQ tests taken when you are young. IQ has also been found to correlate with an individuals level of education.

Recently I took another online test that I actually paid for and scored 136. The test was a little different, and one portion had these flashing numbers to see how long you can retain them in memory and whatnot. Really weird, and not expected at all considering we've all had a shitton of practice going through IQ-esque questions.

As for the poll, it's open and self-selective. People who don't like their results won't vote. Conversely, we smartasses specifically flock to brag, much like Ron Paul supporters.

Then again, even the dumbest people think they're somewhat smart and would rate themselves much higher than what is realistic. We have a saying here which translates to: "Nothing in the world is distributed as fair/even as intelligence - everyone thinks he has enough".

I chose 120-129 because that is what the only serious IQ-test I have ever completed - taken in my native language - after turning 19 gave me. I mean, people in this thread saying they score over 140, come on? Sure, there ought to be one of those guys here, or maybe even two (when considering how many people have answered the poll). But the vast majority should be found in 100-119 (assuming teamliquid > world). Sad. Although I guess many people just choose either the highest or the lowest score as a joke.

Oh please. Don't even try to compare chess and SC. The games are incomparable on so many levels... Your argument could also be applied to soccer, for example. Or just about any other physical sport. Fast speed is the enemy of detailed thinking, that's one big reason why SC can't be compared with chess and is not a "game for intellectuals". Which doesn't mean that SC is bad, but it's just a completely different thing. More like a sport, while chess is a mental game. And fast-paced sports games can never be compared to things like chess. If SC were like you described, it would already be renowned world-wide. I really like SC too but making claims like that is just ridiculous.

Still, according to the poll I'm one of the dumber people here, which seems kinda weird to me because I don't work a lot and am still able to follow the highest education Holland has to offer pretty easily. Sounds to me like a lot of people are clueless on their iq or made some test aimed at 12 year olds or something like that. That or this site is filled with pure geniusses, which is pretty hard to believe when you read some posts here.) Not to mention the amount of people who're voting below 70 here are obviously all lying, if you're below 70 I doubt you've ever played starcraft at all. But I guess it's not really the point of the poll to be accurate anyway seeing as it's for a psychology project.

The thing people don't realize about chess and starcraft is that they're (for the most part) merely skills. You don't have to be a genius to memorize chess openings and endgames, and you don't need to be a genius to be able to solve thousands of tactics problems over and over until you're decent at the middlegame. I think anyone who has slightly above average IQ could get to at least 2000 in chess. Of course the best players in chess and starcraft are way above average in intelligence, but this is true of nearly every field, even sports. EDIT: Got 126 IQ on Physician's test. I have no idea what my actual IQ is, but that test is bullshit. There were at least 10 questions(out of 26) that were factual, which has nothing to do with how intelligent you are. Also, all of you who keep bitching about not seeing a bell curve in TL's IQ statistics: STATISTICS SUCH AS STANDARD DEVIATION FOR THE GENERAL POPULATION DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE STANDARD DEVIATION FOR A SPECIFIC SUBSET OF THE POPULATION. I would agree that you need to be at least 115-120 IQ to be amazing at SC And you base this on ? Absolutely nothing? My thoughts exactly. You do NOT need a high iq for starcraft, for christ's sake what makes you think that. The thinking part of sc is cooking up a strategy and understanding what counters what etc. This can be done with the help of other people and within plenty of time. Why anyone thinks you need a high iq for sc is beyond me. And stop naming sc and chess in the same sentence, it's fucking rediculous.

So in essence you fail the test if you pay for anything because you've been duped. Another thing to note about these online IQ tests is that they are natrurally biased. Because everyone taking them must have a computer and the internet. So Poor/stupid people can't even take the tests. This Einstein Riddle is just about as accurate in gauge of intelligence: + Show Spoiler + Einstein wrote this riddle last century and said that 98% of the world’s population would not be able to solve it. Are you a part of that 98%? * There are 5 houses that are each a different colour. * There is a person of a different nationality in each house. * The 5 owners drink a certain drink. They each smoke a certain brand of cigarettes and also have a certain pet. No owner has the same pet, smokes the same brand of cigarettes nor drinks the same drink. The question is. “Who has the fish?” CLUES 1. The British man lives in the red house. 2. The Swedish man has a dog for a pet. 3. The Danish man drinks tea. 4. The green house is to the left of the white house. 5. The owner of the green house drinks coffee. 6. The person that smokes Pall Mall has a bird. 7. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill. 8. The person that lives in the middle house drinks milk. 9. The Norwegian lives in the first house. 10. The person that smokes Blend, lives next to the one that has a cat. 11. The person that has a horse lives next to the one that smokes Dunhill. 12. The one that smokes Bluemaster drinks beer. 13. The German smokes Prince. 14. The Norwegian lives next to a blue house. 15. The person that smokes Blend, has a neighbour that drinks water. Don't google the answer noobs. Yes, I have solved the riddle. No, I am not smarter than 98% of the world.

And to say that only top 2% of the population can complete it is bs, i'd like a direct einstein quote for that. It's merely a test to measure a portion of a persons intelligence. And alot of people who has solved decent math problems can solve it if they are given the time.

- it doesnt have any stupid fake questions with random answers - it doesnt test random factual knowledge - if you go really quickly and put random answers you actually get a low score ( i got a 79 doing that.. most internet iq tests still cough up 120+ with totally random answers) that said it still probably overstates your iq by a lot. i was down to the last 3 questions with 30mins left (why such a high time limit??), couldn't come up with a reasonable conclusion after like a minute, got bored, and guessed the last 3 (most likely incorrectly), yet still ended up slightly above 130. what bullshit =x p.s. didn't vote on the poll. i really want to take an actual iq test someday though

I'd say having your multiplication and addition tables memorized does make a huge difference when your young. My parents had me memorize all of mine at a very young age.. 3rd or 4th grade and I tested in the 150's as a kid. According to a couple of online iq tests im usually 120-130. Of course I guess like everyone is saying these might not be accurate though. I wonder where I actually am because I still get high test scores on other things.

When you study for an IQ test, it sorta means absolutely nothing (even more nothing than it usually means). IQ tests don't even measure the most useful forms of intelligence, like decision making, and situation analysis. It just says whether you've gone to school and paid attention or not.

You can study patterns all you want and go look at one you haven't seen and not find the pattern because people told you the pattern, or used simple patterns to test you. If you find a pattern you've never seen before, you will either get it after a while, or not. Also, I've memorized my multiplication tables up to like 25 or something in my head, but thats just basic math and repetition, however my ability to do long thought out problems in my head due to memory and the thought process to continue that problem to the end with correct answers means I would do fairly well on problems people told me, or showed me. I wouldn't say that memorizing helps you do that, or paying attention in school (6 out of the 8 people in my AP calc class used calculators and paper for everything, me and one other guy used our heads a majority of the time) IQ is just a test of how well you can learn, or your capacity to learn knowledge, education, etc., not so much how much you can memorize, because while i can recite multiplication tables, memorizing them doesn't particularly mean that I have a high IQ. I haven't taken an IQ test in a while, but the last one I took last year in the spring before I left high school (I'm 19 currently), I scored 135 on the mensa site. I'm really good at problem solving, patterns, and math in my head, but I suck at english -.-, like really bad. ps. 157 votes (people) said they had higher IQ than 130, which, is much, much less than 2% of the world =/

126 on the mensa one and 135 (er..) on Physician's. The mensa one actually hurt my damn head...I thought I was going to get a 80 or something. Who cares if the poll is skewed? I think we should just rejoice that everyones so fucking smart here. Apparently tl.net owns life just as hard as internet voting. Cheers, fellow geniuses! btw incontrol lol i didnt see the hq >_<

![]() IQ tests don't even measure the most useful forms of intelligence, like decision making, and situation analysis. It just says whether you've gone to school and paid attention or not. Decision making and situation analysis is more of an EQ atribute than IQ. Unfortunately you put way too much emphasis on IQ. The higher value of the IQ won't give you an edge in many situations. The best situation to find yourself in is to have a balance betwen your IQ and your EQ. As Daniel Goleman said in some conference, by his longitudinal studies, people with near values for iq and eq (not sure how you define that since tests for eq don't have the same scale as any iq one) have the best chance in life (they succed in most areas). His studies also indicates people with IQ betwen 105-119 detain the highest probability of a high EQ. Too bad there's no acurate test for measuring your EQ. This is my personal opinion since i don't really like the Baron test.

Didn't vote, but scored 144 as a kid, ~138 now. I'd say my weighted IQ, counting laziness, is around 130.

No one says that intelligence is the end to all, quite the contrary. But EQ is just nonsense. Seems it's made up for or by people who feel bad because they don't have a very high IQ. Who cares?

http://www.iqtest.dk/main.swf another free online IQ test (don't know what stdd) that I think is a lot more genuine than most other free online IQ tests. It's all visual/pattern finding to lower cultural bias (not that it eliminates it). Though it only tests for visual/pattern finding. Just for fun.

When you are a kid the simple formula is (MA (Mental Age) / Actual Age) * 100 = IQ. So if you are 11 years old and your mental age is 9 that gives you an IQ of 81, which is bad. So IQ tests done while being a kid really arent valid in older age, where they test the normality in different cognitive areas. I don't believe in tests where actual knowledge is tested (i.e "Name the biggest city in Africa"). Actual knowledge is a factor which varies from where youre from, age, etc. etc. The Mensa tests gives you a hint of your actual IQ but arent as accurate as you might think. /own opinions.

Yes, anonymous is better. Only the distribution is really interesting and the corresponding TLIQ for a given score. The test should also contain a good number of questions (30-50) and be aim for people with an IQ of 130+. Even more fun for the final result.
