He supports a fascist dictator in his quest of conquest and genocide. Was paid handsomely to go to another country and kill innocent people (that includes Ukrainian soldiers defending their country) and brags how he's spending that money on luxury items. You're setting the bar very low, my guy. ;-)

@Simberto, @Gorsameth - does that make him fascist scum? Are all NATO soldiers, who participated in Afghan and Iraqi war fascist scum by your logic?

There are plenty or reasons for this person to be where he is. If you doubt it - you may search, what Ukraine officials say about their plans on Crimea and its current citizens.

While the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were definitely wrong, the US wasn't a fascist state, and they were not wars of conquest and genocide.

Supporting a fascist dictator certainly does make him one. Но давай разберемся. ;-) Here's a list of characteristics defining a fascist state concocted by Umberto Eco:

1. "The cult of tradition", characterized by cultural syncretism, even at the risk of internal contradiction. When all truth has already been revealed by tradition, no new learning can occur, only further interpretation and refinement.

2. "The rejection of modernism", which views the rationalistic development of Western culture since the Enlightenment as a descent into depravity. Eco distinguishes this from a rejection of superficial technological advancement, as many fascist regimes cite their industrial potency as proof of the vitality of their system.

3. "The cult of action for action's sake", which dictates that action is of value in itself and should be taken without intellectual reflection. This, says Eco, is connected with anti-intellectualism and irrationalism, and often manifests in attacks on modern culture and science.

4. "Disagreement is treason" – fascism devalues intellectual discourse and critical reasoning as barriers to action, as well as out of fear that such analysis will expose the contradictions embodied in a syncretistic faith.

5. "Fear of difference", which fascism seeks to exploit and exacerbate, often in the form of racism or an appeal against foreigners and immigrants.

6. "Appeal to a frustrated middle class", fearing economic pressure from the demands and aspirations of lower social groups.

7. "Obsession with a plot" and the hyping-up of an enemy threat. This often combines an appeal to xenophobia with a fear of disloyalty and sabotage from marginalized groups living within the society (such as the German elite's "fear" of the 1930s Jewish populace's businesses and well-doings; see also antisemitism). Eco also cites Pat Robertson's book The New World Order as a prominent example of a plot obsession.

8. Fascist societies rhetorically cast their enemies as "at the same time too strong and too weak". On the one hand, fascists play up the power of certain disfavored elites to encourage in their followers a sense of grievance and humiliation. On the other hand, fascist leaders point to the decadence of those elites as proof of their ultimate feebleness in the face of an overwhelming popular will.

9. "Pacifism is trafficking with the enemy" because "life is permanent warfare" – there must always be an enemy to fight. Both fascist Germany under Hitler and Italy under Mussolini worked first to organize and clean up their respective countries and then build the war machines that they later intended to and did use, despite Germany being under restrictions of the Versailles treaty to not build a military force. This principle leads to a fundamental contradiction within fascism: the incompatibility of ultimate triumph with perpetual war.

10. "Contempt for the weak", which is uncomfortably married to a chauvinistic popular elitism, in which every member of society is superior to outsiders by virtue of belonging to the in-group. Eco sees in these attitudes the root of a deep tension in the fundamentally hierarchical structure of fascist polities, as they encourage leaders to despise their underlings, up to the ultimate leader, who holds the whole country in contempt for having allowed him to overtake it by force.

11. "Everybody is educated to become a hero", which leads to the embrace of a cult of death. As Eco observes, "[t]he Ur-Fascist hero is impatient to die. In his impatience, he more frequently sends other people to death."

12. "Machismo", which sublimates the difficult work of permanent war and heroism into the sexual sphere. Fascists thus hold "both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality".

13. "Selective populism" – the people, conceived monolithically, have a common will, distinct from and superior to the viewpoint of any individual. As no mass of people can ever be truly unanimous, the leader holds himself out as the interpreter of the popular will (though truly he dictates it). Fascists use this concept to delegitimize democratic institutions they accuse of "no longer represent[ing] the voice of the people".

14. "Newspeak" – fascism employs and promotes an impoverished vocabulary in order to limit critical reasoning.

Russia pretty much checks all the boxes except for no. 6.

And here's a definition given by the Russian Academy of Sciences:

Фашизм — это идеология и практика, утверждающая превосходство и исключительность определённой нации или расы и направленная на разжигание национальной нетерпимости, обоснование дискриминации в отношении представителей иных народов, отрицание демократии, установление культа вождя, применение насилия и террора для подавления политических противников и любых форм инакомыслия, оправдание войны как средства решения межгосударственных проблем.

DeepL:

Fascism is an ideology and practice that asserts the superiority and exclusivity of a particular nation or race and seeks to foment national intolerance, justify discrimination against members of other nations, deny democracy, establish a cult of the leader, use violence and terror to suppress political opponents and all forms of dissent, and justify war as a means to solve inter-state problems.

Fits Russia perfectly, doesn't it? ;-)

Unlike Ukraine, Afghanistan was an actual terrorist state and I disapproved of the Iraq invasion, as did much of the world which is why the US and UK went at it mostly alone. I don't believe NATO actually did any fighting in Iraq.

Not all wars are equally bad, not all participation in war is equally bad. He’s chosen a particularly immoral war to fight in. It is not the war that makes him a fascist, it is that he is fighting on the side of the fascists. I’m not sure you really understand what fascism is, probably because you’re living in a fascist state.

The Russian citizens of Crimea who illegally moved there after the illegal annexation are welcome to leave. Crimea is Ukraine. There are no plans to kill them all, only to deport those who illegally immigrated and are squatting.

Russia pretty much check all the boxes except for no.

Fits Russia perfectly, doesn't it? ;-)

We have already spoken here on this topic half year ago. I remember that time you were quite uncapable of supporting your position

Maybe in your alternative reality.

Had to take 20 min to look into my past discussions here - and you're right, that talk (on a very similar topic) was mostly with @Mikau313, not you - so I have to appologize.

Since you're ok with russian language, you may be interested in reading the discussion here - considering the "fascist state":

A pity we don’t have any fun videos from Wehrmacht troops on leave from the siege of Leningrad. We could all enjoy their funny anecdotes.

Yea, but at least we have US troops fun videos from Iraq war.

Whatabout…

Do you think that excuses anything happening in Ukraine?

If you want to condemn US excesses in Iraq make a topic for that. I doubt you’ll find many people to argue with though.

The video is certainly trying to portray a fascist scum as a cool, sympathetic guy.

I wonder, what makes you think you are by any means better than him?

He's not a fascist scum. I think this is a pretty obvious indicator, but maybe that's just me

Focus on context please: Ardias posted a video with interview of ru mobilized man, you replied with pitiness that we don't have fun videos from Wehrmacht troops on leave. I agreed. But to fulfill your frustration about lack of similar videos I reminded you about US troops videos from Iraq war.
Nothing to condemn here or debate, and no one here trying to compare these wars.
