Just from skimming the international news, I know this year u guys had massive forest fires, floods and now the virus, and we're 2.5 months in. Are people dealing with it allright? overall i think reactions about the virus are pretty split. some people are emptying supermarket shelves and really worrying about how the country isnt enforcing travel restrictions hard enough etc. others think theres too much overreaction and media + general panic has been a problem. what i think all australians would come to a consensus on is that the australian economy has been going into a recession for a long time now, the bush fires have devastated those that were actually affected but the overall impact on the economy wasnt felt by australians otherwise. then the coronavirus came along and now we all know for sure that not only is our economy going to shit but australia is so lacking in competitiveness in so many major industries. like i said in my previous posts in this thread, itll take time for the entire world to see the repercussions of the economic impacts, but id say with pretty high confidence that australia is not in for a good time for the next few years. too many underlying issues here in terms of policies in a variety of areas that will prevent australias economy from getting better regardless of how the coronavirus pandemic ends.

The businesses in the nearby area are going to suffer. The company provided some money each quarter for each employee to use as a gift card in nearby restaurants, and all of that will dry up starting pretty much immediately. I'm glad I have half of my savings in non-volatile savings. The stock market is going to hit the floor here, and there's nothing propping it up, because consumerism is the basis of the economy, and everyone stuck at home means purchases are drastically curtailed.

You can't but get drunk like this without games to go to." "Working the whole week and now the weekend is ruined [by not being able to go to the stadium]." It was 12 am and they finished a beer in tandem. Also casual reminder for the online shoppers to have a bit of change ready for the delivery personell.

I'd like to do that, but I think I might be positive and mostly asymptomatic. Been having weird crawling feelings in the chest and slightly elevated temperature occasionaly. Either way, if I am and it isn't hypochondria, then this virus can't touch me and I should be over the hill. I smoke like a chimney btw.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/canada-covid-19-coronavirus-spread-hospital-surge-capacity-ventilators-1.5493178 I couldn't find current numbers but: Fowler led a team of researchers that conducted a survey of Canada's critical-care capacity after the 2009 H1N1 epidemic. At the time, there were about 3,200 ICU beds and almost 5,000 mechanical ventilators spread out in 286 hospitals across Canada. Every critical case needs a ventilator. A fair proportion of these ventilators are ALREADY in use due to other hospitalizations. If they run out at a hospital, someone is going to get on the wrong side of triage. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ If you take Italy as 2x Canada, and they have 10,000 ventilators, you can see where this starts being a problem when 15%+ of your already limited number of ventilators are in use for Corona. If they run out, we can expect serious PTSD from nurses and doctors charged with triaging patients if they're forced to choose.

Of course, I'm also closing on buying a house, which is gonna be somewhat of a loss in the next couple months right now. I think it was a great deal in the first place so I'm not too worried, but I'm fully expecting house prices to drop 10-15%. We found out why daycares haven't yet closed in Ohio, btw. It's because healthcare providers need daycare. Governor is begging people not to bring children to daycare unless they're critical, and preparing to open new daycares in the hospitals for the doctors. It's not something that even occurred to me before seeing the tweet. Wonder if my wife will get tapped... Oh, and this is a fun policy :

Same thing here, except people show up since it was implied one should. Honestly thought they would send white collar workers home to decrease chance of infecting blue collar workers (and production tied white collar).

I'd assume that they're probably still working on the details for closing the border to US citizens (which is obviously the most complex case).
