They don't have to cross the Mediterranean to get to Spain. Both Ceuta and Melilla have pretty big border fences. The problem isn't the lack of protection, it's the sheer number of immigrants. A wall wouldn't do shit. If it did, Spain would already have built them. But that isn't what the report claims, as neither Ceuta nor Melilla are anywhere near the Sahara.

He has been respectful and not gone on the attack. You don't read a lot of positive about him on CNN. And the title is a bit of a underhanded compliment but still overall positive. https://www.cnn.com/2018/09/20/politics/donald-trump-kavanaugh-accuser/index.html Not so long ago 'being respectful' was considered the default position.

I still stand by my assessment that building walls to stop migrants is dumb plan from a movie about giant robots vs off brand Godzilla. Dunno, walls are good at stopping people, if you put guards on them and are willing to shoot people who want to cross. That kept people within the GDR for decades. The problem is that that makes you an incredibly horrible person.

Of course that had to come. I didn't put a million qualifiers into a lighthearted post. Yes, sometimes guarding a wall might be fine, and threatening to shoot people who cross might also be acceptable under specific circumstances. (Though ideally, there should be better solutions in prison). Of course, that is only a reasonable comparison if you equate refugees to prisoners. And if you are willing to shoot at them, they are probably not some low-sec nonviolent offenders, but murderers and rapists. Which of course fits the rightwing line of evil evil rapist immigrants, but is also utterly false. (And no, just because they might be breaking some immigration law does not turn them into dangerous criminals)

If not, then the answer is yes, Trump had lowered that bar, and many others, to an unprecedented level.

Prison guards generally do not shoot at unarmed prisoners that escape. Most of them are not armed with fire arms for obvious reasons.

Well DDR border guards were shooting to kill, i doubt any European country has a political will to enforce something like that. And thats what it takes to create a border as secure as DDR/FDR one.
