I can't see the whole of this Wall Street Journal article because of the paywall, but the BBC have described the story: According to The Wall Street Journal, a letter bearing Trump's name "contained several lines of typewritten text framed by the outline of a naked woman, which appears to be hand-drawn with a heavy marker." "Inside the outline of the naked woman was a typewritten note styled as an imaginary conversation between Trump and Epstein, written in the third person," the paper reported. The letter, according to The Wall Street Journal, allegedly ends with the words: "A pal is a wonderful thing. Happy Birthday – and may every day be another wonderful secret." "These are not my words, not the way I talk. Also, I don't draw pictures," Trump said on social media in response to the story. According to the newspaper, the letter was part of a compilation of birthday greetings that was put together by Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 of helping Epstein to sex-traffic children and sentenced to 20 years in prison. "Another wonderful secret". Yikes. I can't possibly imagine why Trump wants to brush Epstein under the carpet after campaigning on a promise to release the data. I don't buy his denial for a second. He's a nonce, and he knows he is. EDIT: Trump saying in his denial that he doesn't draw pictures is especially dumb.

Are we supposed to believe that she felt like she had something valuable to contribute to their discussions of political philosophy and the future of America? If they had any questions about the dishwasher they'd go to the kitchen and ask it. She put herself in that situation. Where was her husband? Where was her father? She deliberately sought out alone time with this extremely manly and heterosexual man and now we're supposed to believe that she didn't want whatever might have happened? What was he meant to think? That she wasn't interested in him? What else could she possibly have expected him to do? She owes him an apology for leading him on and smearing his good name after what was clearly a case of an infatuated girl lacking good Christian virtues and basic common sense. Unfortunately for her she's now damaged goods, no good Christian man would want her after what she's done." It sucks that she is talking about the rape just now, had she done it when it happened it would have destroyed Tate completely.

Jeez. It's even worse when you read the full thing. I hope Trump does try to sue the WSJ because I feel like Murdoch would be very happy to go through with it, at least if the behaviour of his newspapers in the UK is anything to go by, and the information that comes out of the court case will likely be even more embarrassing for Trump. Thanks for the link!

Thanks for the link! np. I am not sure. Fox only stopped running with the Dominion voting machine lies when it started to become legally untenable. the dilemma for Fox was lose viewership (as what counts as conservative in the US now is broadly the DJT cult) or tango with Dominion's lawyers in case the company fights the unsubstantiated claims. ~800 million settlement says Fox could not dance their way out of the lies. and that other voting machine case is still ongoing. Epstein stuff might be different. a huge chunk of ALL Americans, including Trump's core voter base, want actual justice served and closure to this massively fucked up story. on countless levels (unconfirmed, but I read a claim that Melania's courting involved Epstein... the intelligence angle, the corrupt pedo elite angle.) it is just so ungodly much dirt with this guy. and Trump basically in the middle of it all. how it shakes out... will be interesting to follow. Trump uncharacteristically lost the plot what his base wants(and called them stupid) and the media narrative on all sides is against him. even right wing sycophant "influencers" are in hot water with their audience for towing the "state line". people inadvertentely might have found the chink in "Jabbah the Trump's" armor. he and his administration gave the opening themselves. incompetence of the highest order on display here.

Meanwhile, favorable views of the Democratic Party are at their lowest in three decades Wonder if there is a connection? This is why republicans are dumbasses for pretending there is any reason whatsoever to withhold Epstein stuff. Even if Trump is in it, who is going to beat him when he runs for a 3rd term? Nobody. Even if democrats manage to avoid a shitty candidate, which is a nonsensical assumption to make, the party itself would still lead to defeat. An entirely new party would need to be formed and extreme care and precision would be necessary to make sure that leadership structure didn’t include any of the top 500 leaders of the Democratic Party. Republicans who are against releasing the Epstein-related evidence are pretending there is a single downside. It would be worth it just to know a single one of his clients. Even if that 1 client was some random no power dude. Still worth it because there’s no cost. It’s strictly good to expose pedophiles. And so even if we assume Trump is in it, look at that train carrying a series of dumpsters on fire, as it lays stern about the country side after crashing into another train carrying a series of dumpsters on fire.

In what way does this take differ from those pushed by the extreme-right? Politicians being morally corrupt is a view shared probably by the majority of the voting age population of the US for the last 20-30 years. Maybe the unifying aspect of our electorate. It's essentially common knowledge. Careful using a European lens on the US. Congress hasn't had a positive approval rating since shortly after 9/11. They think both sides are incompetent and ineffective. Whether right or wrong. Just like most believe the government is hiding secret flight logs to an island that has no airport or airstrip. GreenHorizons is absolutely not unique or special for that view at all, it's the bandwagon view, it doesn't make him far right or far of any direction, it makes him a true American.

Lol, this is verbatim a take from like 2017. I'm surprised you didn't literally say "Democrats are in disarray" too.

Look at all the various postmortem reports of the Harris campaign and look at how much of the 2016 folks were still playing a role in 2024. Rather than operating as a fluid political organization striving to represent people, the Democratic Party functions more like a marketing company. But a marketing company where no one gets fired. And they only sell one product, which they are also unwilling to change. If we could at least see a significant purge, I’d feel better about it. And I can’t imagine democrats being excited for anyone other than AOC or JC. I don’t think you have any incentive to make dismissive little quips like this. Just engage and have a conversation. Infighting and criticism are healthy parts of maintaining the effectiveness of a political effort/party. What’s the alternative? Stare at a mirror telling myself “democrat leadership is highly effective and I feel good about 2028” over and over until I believe it? 2012 doom and gloom was instrumental in republicans pulling off such an effective rebranding, going on to capture a huge swath of GenZ men. We should welcome all forms of criticism, especially this far away from 2028. Even if democrats take the house in 2026, we’re gonna be here pissed off about executive powers being juiced up by the Supreme Court. The executive is all that matters right now. Until we have a good path to 2028, what is there to feel optimistic about?

People are miserable and they blame the incumbent. That's not a U.S.-specific phenomenon either, incumbent parties across the globe of 2024 were wiped out due to post-pandemic and inflation malaise. The idea that Trump has already won the 2028 election sounds just as dumb as the people saying he was guaranteed to win 2020 as well. We're years off from an election and a lot can happen.

I mean of course he's gonna try, but why wouldn't he be blocked the same way most of his executive orders were blocked? Just... it just won't happen. What is the situation? Is the government completely fucked already? Have I missed something?
