Surely you did not just describe Trump as humble? That you think his interest in the common men is genuine and that you find him authentic, sure, I can buy that, but humble? If Trump were to use that word to describe himself, it would be through stating that he is the most humble man to ever live and that this is another reason why he is the greatest.

He clearly thinks he's hot shit. And he clearly, desperately desires people to acknowledge his as being totally awesome from everything I've ever seen. It stops shy of true DSM narcissism where it's obligate he get that attention...but he's got about as high a narcissistic supply as I remember seeing. None of which feels humble. But it doesn't so much feel arrogant as it does needy and validation seeking to me. And when I say "of someone of his net worth", I mean that I think people like Elon, Vivek, Kirk, Obama, Kamala, etc. all comes across to me as sneering and looking down on the masses as beneath them. I do not get that impression from Trump. Trump reminds me more of instagirls posting thirst traps for attention. They know they are hot, they are desperate for attention to be admired and showered with compliments, but they don't present as thinking everyone else is far beneath them

Yeah I think so too, if Dems won the popular vote you could argue it’s some EC bullshit but losing the popular vote really shows people are sick of Dem bullshit policies that they would rather vote for someone as flawed as Trump.

Pretty much every person I knew isn't especially pro Trump. They are simply disgusted, angry, or afraid of the democrats DEI policies, the rapid shift in demographics, the monetary policy (admittedly R isn't a ton better here, but perception skews that way), and the general bureaucracy and onerous endless regulations that are added. Also very strong opposition to the moral posture that liberals always take. Almost impossible to overstate that. Everyone I know in person, unless ardent left, despises this. The ardent left folk almost always take these moral framings "you're a horrible racist", "you hate trans people", "you're a misogynist", "you don't care about women", etc. when you don't agree or do what they want. Put all that together with Harris as a candidate and.... you get tonight.

I do share this perspective, but at least among my in person spheres, a BIG part of that is that this time people didn't feel they were voting for Trump. They were voting for the coalition of Tulsi + RFK + Vance + Vivek + Elon + Trump, seeing those other members as good voices surrounding and shaping the more insane points of Trump.

Stuff like Trump saying that he would use the national guard on violent protesters trying to prevent his inauguration turns into "Trump saying he will use the military on political opponents (just like Hitler did)". etc. And I'm even a person who is genuinely afraid of what I see as Trump's authoritarian tendencies.

Stop getting into these shit slinging contests with the Republicans about wedge issues. There's A REASON the Republicans want politics to be about that. They win those fights.

The largest single block of them anyway. The American identity has metastasized into him: an openly racist and misogynistic dipshit with a 4th grade reading level who has no values outside of his own money (about which he lies) and power. Well done America, you've won democracy. You've found your mirror. To the rest of you who have, by now, realised just how many of these fuckers you share a country with, my condolences. Genuinely, it is terrifying from here, can't imagine what it is like there.
