I'll believe the $600 table scraps relief bill makes it through when I see it pay less than half of next month's rent.

I'm glad someone finally offered at least a tiny bit of pushback against the unfettered operation of the JPow casino. It's not much but it was worth it.

I'm not against compromise in principle, but I do think the house should have held firm where they started.

This seemed like a perfect opportunity to pass a clean, effective relief bill, let the reps block it repeatedly, and just keep asking whether the country really wants that to happen every day for the next two years.

It would obviously be painful in the short term for a huge number of people, but Georgia is everything at this point.

The reps have an effective message saying that they want to pass the relief bill piece by piece but the dems refuse to give you anything until they get everything they want and nothing less.

Its hard because its undenyable to say that stimulus is cost-effective for saving the economy but you just know there's no chance anyone will actually give a shit about the debt on the other side.

No.
On Saturday, Toomey argued on the Senate floor that three pandemic-related lending programs should end because they've "achieved their purpose."

Democrats pushed back, arguing that Toomey's provision would also prevent future Treasury secretaries from restarting the lending programs.

But legislators said they reached a compromise on the issue late Saturday, after hours of talks between Toomey and Schumer.

According to a senior Democratic aide, Toomey "agreed to drop the broad language in his proposal that would have prevented the Fed chair from establishing similar facilities in the future to the ones created [by the CARES Act] in March."

So, the current programs still end and there will be no future programs because the GOP will not pass them.

Can't help but feel like Democrats are already giving in way to much.

They narrowed the departments so it isn't a blanket ban anymore. The Feds will still be able to make things work if need be.

But I'm more concerned if the Dems don't take GA how shitty it'll be for the next two years. They're going to have to print money for the next 6 months and this 900bn isn't going to help the people who really need it. 600 direct payment and a boost in UI? Not going to pay the rent for those in more expensive areas.

The economy sure doesn't feel all that saved, what with the 700k-1m new unemployed weekly. Stock market is doing decent though.

Its worth considering, even if only one of the Senate GA runoff goes Democrat, it seems like theres a fair opportunity to have Senator Hawley break off from Republicans on Stimulus Check stuff, so you'd only need one additional senator to pass that sort of thing in a best case scenario way.
Incremental change is the Democrat version of Trickle Down economics.

Doesn’t Mitch still get to decide what gets voted on? So he could just say no to whatever? Man I really hope we win Georgia but I am expecting 2-3% losses in both.

Im predicting a Warnocke win and an Ossoff loss personally, but I could see a dual loss/dual win, any combination really seems within the realm of possibility at this point.

Forgot about that power, what a bizarre and tyrannical power for one person in the Senate to have.

Quick summary of everything in the sympathy bill on vote today. My sister works at the Feds and says next week is when they'll send out the checks. Not a lot to really discuss or summarize about this. Pretty straightforward read.
Individual benefits

$600 direct payment checks for every adult and child earning up to $75,000. Individuals earning between $75,000 and $99,000 would get smaller checks, and the benefit cuts out entirely for individuals earning over $99,000.
Unemployment benefits: Lawmakers agreed to extend enhanced unemployment benefits for jobless workers, who will receive up to $300 per week through mid-March. Self-employed people and gig workers will also receive extended assistance.
Rental assistance: The measure includes $25 billion to help families pay their rent, and it extends the eviction moratorium now in effect until Jan. 31.
SNAP assistance: Democrats say the measure includes an additional $13 billion for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Small-business help

PPP loans: The agreement includes some $284 billion for Paycheck Protection Program loans. Democrats say they expanded eligibility for the loans to include nonprofits and local newspapers, along with TV and radio stations. Also, $15 billion would be reserved for live venues, independent movie theaters and cultural institutions, which have been struggling due to pandemic-forced closures.
Child care centers: According to a Republican summary of the plan, the measure includes $10 billion for child care centers to help providers safely reopen.
Vaccines

The agreement includes some $68 billion to purchase and distribute COVID-19 vaccines and help states conduct testing. According to the Republican summary, $20 billion of that funding will make the vaccine available at no cost for anybody needing it.
Broadband access

The measure contains $7 billion to increase access to broadband Internet, including a new Emergency Broadband Benefit that Democrats say will help millions of students' families and unemployed workers afford the broadband they need during the pandemic.
Transportation aid

Lawmakers also agreed to provide $45 billion in transportation-related assistance, including:

$16 billion for airlines to pay the salaries of workers and contractors.
$14 billion for mass transit agencies.
$10 billion for highways.
$1 billion for Amtrak.
Education

The measure contains $82 billion in funding for schools and universities to assist with reopening, including, according to a Republican summary, $2.75 billion for private K-12 education.
Agriculture

There is some $13 billion in the measure for farmers and agriculture, including money under the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program for growers and livestock, dairy and poultry producers.
Medical bills

The measure also includes a provision ending surprise medical billing. Republicans say patients would be required to receive a "true and honest cost estimate" three days before any scheduled procedure and that billing disputes would be subject to arbitration.
Tax-deductible meals

Lawmakers also included a provision sought by President Trump, making the cost of meals a deductible business expense.

Looks like some good stuff. Disappointing that they're funneling more money into airlines, but no getting around that politically. Hopefully PPP is targeted more at actual struggling businesses and less at well-connected, stable businesses looking for a salary subsidy for people they'd be keeping anyways. Slightly skeptical of the school & university funding because it's questionable if they should even be reopening before August.

Rent assistance, unemployment, and medical billing are some excellent measures I want to call out.

History will sooner or later sweep the European Union away without mercy.

Im seeing on other websites the income cutoffs are the same as the first stimulus. I see that the summary from NPR does not mention married filing jointly or head of household.

Previously it was 150k-199k for married filing jointly and something like 112k for head of household. I assume itll be the same this time.

Yes, by all appearances the eligibility criteria are the same this go around.
