This cracks me up. We should just walk as soon as possible so we can get on with dealing with people who are actually serious. Now that's downright hilarious.
It's just the EU calling May's "No deal is better than bad deal" bluff.

Probably. May has kinda brought that upon herself though, with her aggressive rhetoric on the subject. Perhaps she genuinely believes the UK doesn't need a deal, who knows.

The 100 billion is a gross figure. The net figure would be near the 60 billion. Anyway this is pure speculation since the idea is that they start negotiating on a formula to calculate the bill. They haven't even started yet.

I suppose it would be something to stay up for if it actually dissolved...

You should ease up on the sarcasm. You've reached the point where your average post is sufficiently bad that nobody can tell when you're intentionally trying to post something stupid.

Well said by TM. Now to see if national leaders get the idea and bring Juncker to heel.

From what I've seen I'd say May is a Eurosceptic-of-a-kind, not the kind who would choose to leave the union but also one who is displeased enough with its function that she isn't afraid to be fairly hostile towards the EU if pushed hard enough in that direction. And the EU's negotiating position certainly looks like it's been dominated by hardliners so this should not be that much of a surprise.

fuck juncker.

I think everyone could agree on a "fuck juncker", no matter where a Person stands on the various EU/Brexit related issues .

Could they have also agreed to a "fuck juncker" before he became president of the European Commission?
|
I guess they didn't get the memo because the UK was the only country who voted against him (edit: actually Hungary did too).
This article sums up my opinion on the 'bill' nicely: https://capx.co/the-pm-should-ignore-junckers-brexit-bluff/
The only issue I have is that they want to present the 'divorce bill' as something that has to be decided alongside practicalities about the Irish border, etc. That is an issue that needs to be settled even if there is to be 'no deal'. I hope we are pursuing a bilateral failsafe with the Irish government.

Junkers leak isn't very popular in the EU either.
A German official expressed unease over the leak and called it unusual. Both Britain and Germany have a keen interest in reaching a Brexit agreement and now isn’t the time to prepare for any failure of the negotiations, said the official, who asked not to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter.
A Brussels-based European government official said the article stemmed from unhelpful spin by Juncker’s chief of staff, Martin Selmayr, and doesn’t reflect the view of EU partners. https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2017-05-02/u-k-s-may-says-juncker-s-learning-she-can-be-bloody-difficult
Anyway you guys are reading way too much into this. The tough language from both the EU and May is posturing before the negotiations. At the end of the day it's Barnier and his British counterpart doing the actual negotiations.
