Isn't that pretty clear? Just some young and stupid American dude who took a huge risk going into N.K. He gambled and lost, tough shit but it's not like he wasn't aware of the possible risks.
The abuse/beatings/etc. will teach this guy for sure, and hopefully some leaked images or his story (if he ever gets out) will teach others to not be as retarded.
You're always at the wrong place in N.K., and poor Miller simply happened to be there at the wrong time too (U.S. diplomatic visit to S.K.).

in the first place why the heck did he go there...

If reports of him tearing his visa up and asking for asylum are true then he probably did it because he is insane.

An alternative narrative on who is really in charge in NK:
http://www.indexoncensorship.org/2014/05/north-korea-ogd/
... Power was not harmoniously transferred upon Kim Il Sung’s death in 1994 to his son, Kim Jong Il — instead Kim Jong Il had long before usurped his father with the support of the clandestine Organisation and Guidance Department (OGD), while Kim Il Sung spent his last years under virtual house arrest, bamboozled by his own cult, created by his son. ...

^ Those plutocrats are obviously getting impatient with little 'Un considering how many "incidents" that have happened lately ever since he took the reins.
And speaking of incidents:
North Korea artillery fires at South Korean navy ship, and misses(Reuters) - North Korean artillery fired at least one shot which landed near a South Korean navy patrol ship south of the two sides' disputed maritime border on Thursday, but it did not hit the vessel, a military official in Seoul said. The official added that South Korean artillery fired at a North Korean naval vessel in response. ..... There was no further firing from the North following the incident soon after 6 p.m. local time (0900 GMT), the official said. ..... Source
North Korea fires artillery near South Korean warshipNorth Korea fired into disputed waters near a South Korean warship on Thursday, a South Korean military officer has said. The officer said North Korea fired artillery towards a naval ship engaged in a routine patrol mission near the countries' disputed maritime boundary in the Yellow Sea. The South Korean ship was not hit. The officer could not confirm a report from Yonhap news agency that South Korea's military returned fire at waters near a North Korean warship. The South Korean television network YTN said two rounds of artillery shells were fired at the North, but other details were unknown, including whether artillery was fired from sea or land. YTN reported that the frontline Yeonpyeong island was being evacuated. ..... Source Although they probably missed on purpose (the North Koreans have never been particularly competent with their static guns), this could be the first in a string of more incidents. I have a feeling South Korea isn't going to be so lenient this time if North Korea tries to pull another Cheonan...

Yet another evangelist Amerikansky that deserves a Darwin award...
North Korea claims it is holding US tourist Jeffrey Edwards FowleNORTH Korea said on Friday it has detained an American tourist for committing an unspecified crime, the third US citizen being held there. The United States has confirmed that North Korea has detained a third American and called on the communist state to release the trio. “We are aware that a US citizen has been detained by North Korea,” State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters, adding: “We continue to actively seek the release of all three.” Ms Harf said that she could not confirm the detainee’s name due to privacy considerations. Screw those guys who get arrested for trying to bring religions over there. Waste of taxpayer money trying to get them out. Let their church foot the bill.

yeah what a crime. how dare he intentionally leave behind reading material hope he gets 20 years hard labor
|
No one has a monopoly on what is a crime. He went into a hostile country, purposely broke their laws and now the taxpayer will have to spend millions to get him back. Fuck these guys.

Hopefully you're making little sarcastic jokes because you don't understand. Its not just about money, these incidents come at a huge political cost also. Each one of these people getting caught are giving NK ammo to use as bartering chips. I think the US should ban travel to NK since people are too stupid to protect themselves.
|
I agree if people cant control themselves from leaving bibles in hotel desks we should abandon them
|
Yeah I get it... You have nothing of value to say so you post 3 shitty flamebait one liners.

Why not just invade NK and be done with this bullshit?
They're all malnourished, under-equipped and poorly educated for the most part. What could possibly go wrong?

Just kidding. Even with a ban in place I'm quite sure it wouldn't stop thrill seekers from trying to circumvent it and go to preach their religion, film a rap video or whatever rubbish that's deemed to be "unique". Honestly, if you can't take a hint from the previous nineteen folks who thought it would be a good idea to mess around with the North Koreans, then you rightly deserve whatever punishment that gets sent your way.

They're all malnourished, under-equipped and poorly educated for the most part. What could possibly go wrong? The part where they have nukes that can be used against the invaders and the South (won't/can't reach America but can reach South Korea). Couple that with a highly indoctrinated civil population and pro-jingoistic/potentially suicidal leadership and you have a real mess on your hands.
China of course used to be the excuse for not shutting this regime down but that ships sailed with their cold attitude towards their dear comrades in the north. So that only leaves the nukes being a problem really.
|
I think at some point China and the US should work together to get rid of the regime in NK. If there's one country where a military intervention would be justified it's probably North Korea.

They're all malnourished, under-equipped and poorly educated for the most part. What could possibly go wrong? Besides their nukes, more importantly NK has over one million soldiers. No matter how poorly these guys are equipped that would be going to be really messy. Not to speak of the billions of dollars the international community would have to pump into the country to build it up afterwards.

@nyxisto American will stay with the status quo in the Korean peninsula IMO. We've become soft like everyone else, for better or worse.
|
NK has nukes now?
I thought it was just artillery pointed at Seoul.
|
??? They've detonated quite a few. Although supposedly their delivery tech is shit so far.

That's such a stupid thing to say. It would cost at least 10.000s of peoples' lives! They may be under-equipped, but their military is huge, that have insane amount of artillery and also nukes. Just imagine a nuke near Seoul...
