It is an insult, because you're insinuating I'm crazy for not trusting in a big tech company keeping my data to themselves. Clearly the sensor has to be connected to the rest of device in a way, so how could you possibly know the fingerprints stay where they are?

that's like saying because my office table is inside and attached to my office building, it has to contribute to the structural integrity of the latter

i'm not insulting you, i just wish you would do a bit more research before spouting off some misled and clearly unfounded opinion (hence the tin foil hat reference). it'd actually make more sense if you cited samsung as the target of your opinion because their api allows devs to access the sensor but not data for verification purposes in other apps.

additionally if you're concerned about big tech companies utilizing personal data the largest perpetrators would probably be google and facebook; biometric data should be a distant secondary concern.

anyhow i get that you're concerned but so far every article or analysis of these devices point out that fingerprint data is locally isolated & stored. and if you took time to examine the way these fingerprint sensors actually work, they don't even store a complete finger print.

but yea I mostly agree. I'll wait for reviews to come out before making an actual decision but this is definitely not a day1 order like it was last time

The back, yes. But the sides have a nice metal binding which feels premium in the hand. Not to mention the Styleswap covers give you the actual material (wood, keviar, etc.)

werent you the one that said that the Moto X was all plastic ?

You realize it has the pretty much the same metalic frame around it ? so in the end its pretty much the same, back plastic (even wood or leather if you care about it), metalic frame

i dont get how then that for you the "plastic was a no-no" but its pretty much in the same situation as the OP2 lol

I mean, i dont care if you like one phone or the other, but i dont get what makes the OP2 "more premium" than the Moto X considering they have the same build.

Ok, so Moto X might have the metal binding as well, but that doesn't change the fact that its exterior is inferior quality than OPT. You just know it after you hold them in your hands. Moto X 2015's build quality just seems 'put together' while OPT build quality actually seems really polished. My old phone was Moto X 2013, I held had the chance to hold both 2014 and 2015 Moto X in my hands too. The exterior quality is just not as great as OPT, that's a fact.

If you don't take my word for it, then fine. I'm just trying to give good advice to people on this thread. Verge did a review for these 2 phones, and one of knocks on Moto X was, "doesn't feel as premium as its competitors", while Verge also did a review on OPT and it rated it as solid build quality (along with the best smartphone you can get for $400 range, which I wholeheartedly agree with).

http://www.theverge.com/2015/9/2/9248101/new-motorola-moto-x-review-2015-pure-edition

http://www.theverge.com/2015/8/18/9168395/oneplus-2-smartphone-2015-android-review

Now, OPT still doesn't achieve the build quality as an iPhone 6 or S6 Edge, but it's easily the best phone for the price range (imo).

announce != release and MWC is always in Feb iirc. There will always be new tech coming out so if you need it now then buy it or wait for the new crop of S7, One M10, LG G5. Look for the release to be in April.

If you're interested in a ~5.5 inch phone, read this.

I was waiting for the new Nexus refresh as well, but caved instead and picked up an Asus Zenfone 2.

Looking at the specs, I'm glad I picked up the budget "flagship killer". Atom z3580 on the Asus is pretty much a snapdragon 805, and the powervr g6430 performs between the adreno 330 and the 418. Plus 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, topped off with a 5.5 IPS screen and a >3000mah battery... all for half the price of current flagships.

Base model is just $199 USD with 2GB of ram and 16GB of storage, and the high-end model is $299 for 4GB and 64GB. No software issues and updates from Asus come every few weeks. What a steal.

To add on 5.5" phones.

Just received a couple days ago my new phone. Xiaomi Redmi Note 2.
Under a month shipment from china and little overcost. 32GB Helio x10 octa core 2.2 procesors for 174€ (159€ retail price)

Very happy with it so far. I'd recomend to anyone who wants a nice phablet without the "commodities" of nfc chip, fingerprint reader or an aluminium unibody.

Need to find time to root it and get rid of a couple pre installed apps.

I'm super, super wary of devices from Asus, Lenovo, even Huawei pre-Nexus 6P. It's not that their hardware is weak by comparison, they're actually quite comparable. It's that they don't have the market share, and therefore influence, necessary to pressure developers into maintaining compatibility with their device, so on the Google Play Store, a lot of those budget devices tend to go blacklisted. It's kind of an unfortunate reality with any smartphone marketplace: if you're a developer using some mainstream API that's not compatible with some chipset, then you have no choice but to exclude devices under that chipset (there was a huge high-profile debacle over this exact thing with the Tegra 2, so a lot of those really nice devices had to miss out on some great apps). When your market is dominated by Samsung/Nexus/top-end iPhones, you have to support those or you're not going to recoup on your investment. If that means having to exclude some Asus Transformer tablets which are great despite some niche incompatibility, then that's the way it's going to be =( I will keep my eye on that new Asus device though, just in case.

the 2gb of ram its a serious deal breaker, i mean 3 would be good and 4 would be great (albeit a bit too much ??)

Especially considering there are similar speced phone with a better screen and more ram (X 2015) or downright better specs (OP2)
