I have a few lady friends into fashion. One of them, who I was briefly interested in, wore basically Need Supply-like stuff, which I dig. First time we met we bonded over hair products, Acne, and drapey coats. I didn't work out and I regret it to this day.

I remember once asking a japanese exchange student with sick fits what she liked and it was a bunch of our legacy price level obscure japan only labels that im pretty sure no foreigner would know. Have yet to meet a non-asian girl with good taste, the vintage thrifted boho chic shit doesn't count, have seen some walking around soho and garment district but that doesn't count either.
I feel that the longer I've been the game, the better I can control my consumerist impulses, and not just for clothes but for anything that takes up disposable income. A year ago I thought hard about kopping a sterling rubyxraf parka, thinking it was gonna be a "grail." Then sipang said grail is nothing more than a sales pitch, which is often true, especially when I hadn't seen enough to know what actually counts as grail.
Somewhat curious about ffixxed and house of the... new labels on SP but have been around Japanese shops for a while. Looked at some Lemaire and wasn't excited about men's, women's is nice though. Never getting JJVE again, not cut out to dress like a Flemish peasant. Just too weird, not practical.

sometimes i look at peasant-esque stuff like mori boy and think i like it and then a few images later i think it looks ridiculous. then next month i look at it again and the cycle repeats.

Saw a Thom Browne jacket today similar to this one:

Looked like an Adidas knockoff, wonder if this is the middle aged yuppie version of hypebeasting, 4 stripes instead of 3.

I officially give up on trying to participate on mfa it's all the same shit over and over again. Sick of seeing shitty cdbs and ocbds in generic fits and generic photos. Not that i expected differently but whatevs. Guess I'll sincerely try to post on sf for now

I think reddit's format is at its worst for aesthetic related topics like books or fashion. The discussions and recs will always be basic and superficial. SF can get pretty stale too though. Too much workwear-y workwear. I also never got the obsession with Geller. Same posters in waywt, the really knowledgeable ones don't post fits. Tired of seeing stanley's girlish frame. Flame wars sometime break out and are more childish than the ones I had on TL ten years ago.
Here's Rosenrot in one of the UC parkas from next season that I want

Haven't seen anything interesting in a while. Pulse/Andy what are cool people into nowadays?
What's up with Vetements? Looks terrible.
Saw AnnD velcro lows in the wild. CP makes them now too.

I don't even dress very out there, I dress very normally imo, but it's still outside regular mfa stuff. Any discussion is indeed too basic, but reddit's accessibility is what kept me there. I feel like it's hard to just jump in and participate in some forums especially ones with existing culture.
I love a lot of the Rosenrot's fits, stuff I'd never wear or want a significant other to wear, but really interesting otherwise. I think my favorite model right now is Akimoto Kozue, who wears sorta similar stuff to Rosenrot and basically only black, and I don't even like black much tbh
Vetements is trash, Balenciaga looked almost interesting but I hate those shoulders and weird waists. Which was basically his signature for the collection. I don't understand the Demna hype.

Yea it's hard to jump into a forum with an established user base. But a lot of people use SF very pragmatically, for info on sales, for advice on what to buy, etc. Those are questions anyone can ask. The Random Fashion Thoughts thread has a lot of good info and posts from people who've seen everything on every spectrum. The older folks are generally pretty nice and will respond to everything.
My general impression of SF, especially as of late, is that because there's so much noise and bullshit in fashion, they've all gravitated toward clothes of substantial, recognizable quality, hence Leder, Schneider, etc. You can tell from just the fabrics that they're not like anything else. But doing so restricts their tastes. They don't care for streetwear. They like carefully made pieces from good materials. But quality is really not that important. It's way more important to people who don't have a lot of clothes and don't care for fashion. That's why I don't like the workwear trap. I'd much prefer clothes that are interesting than clothes that are well-made.

I'm just reading SF for now, get a feel of the place. Maybe post in a few of the more basic threads.
If only I had any use for the thicker Schneider coats, I love their texture but I would never wear them. Peir Wu's another one with really great texture and fabrics, but I don't wanna pay that much for something I'd wear once a year. I really adore the look of substantial fabrics with uneven tone and color, even your basic flecked donegal tweeds. This climate tho
I'm near the bottom of waywt coz I didn't want to take a boring pic, fuck them

I've been working retail lately @ a local upscale mall to supplement income as a student; I've found the everyday passing of customers a far better learning experience than mfa and sf for learning about fashion trends. Even people not introduced to many of the precepts of the internet-audience and their tenets, bring interesting things intentionally or unintentionally.
The lamentation with these internet sites is well-deserved though. What people seem to really want is some place between runways and generic re-formulations of last seasons gap catalogue. Or at least some creativity, uniqueness in the looks.
Is it not entirely superfluous to post a waywt pic that brings nothing interesting to the table? eh. Of course there is nothing wrong with plain dressing, as most of us here do anyway.
But to take a picture of it and post in a forum seems to break a barrier of taste and purpose. "I know about fashion, but may as well not, seeing as I have less creativity in aesthetic value than the guy at walmart with a hoodie and wranger jeans"

Working retail is likely more interesting because you actually see people wear clothes instead of just talk about clothes (and the same clothes no less) all day. You get to see people who just put on clothes and they look good because they have style instead of copying what they see other people wear on the internet.
Might open my own store soon-ish actually. Planning it with 2 other partners, the two people I talk about clothes the most irl (a married couple). Hopefully it happens this year.
95% of waywt posts are just "hey I took a selfie in front of a mirror" or "look at me wearing my clothes in front of a benign background". I want more drama, more purpose, more posing. The outfit should be interesting but the picture should be too. I don't mind simple outfits, I guess I'm just bored of mfa and reddit in general.
