I gave a bottle of that to my father for Christmas. It was on sale at BevMo for 47 dollars. Pretty cheap for what it is.

Evan Williams Honey is similar and about 30-40% cheaper. I do like the Jack Honey a bit better but can't really justify the cost.

Going on a whisky cruise (expo) in 2 weeks.
Gonna get me a Balvenie Tun 1509, Bruichladdich Black Art 4 and Octomore 7.2.
Also gonna try a shitton of whisky without getting shitfaced. Wish me luck!

nice bruichalddich and octomores. very jealous right now =p
edit: and also the ardbegs...actually all of them T_T!

I'm very jealous also. I'm also unable to buy the more expensive bottles here because they're already expensive and the liquor board loves its disproportionately high taxes.

The same is pretty much true for Sweden as well. It sucks tbh.

favorite mixers for TL users? I've mostly stuck with ginger ale but I would like to take up some suggestions

On January 18 2015 11:15 Gamegene wrote:favorite mixers for TL users? I've mostly stuck with ginger ale but I would like to take up some suggestions The following is a personal opinion and not necessarily a popular one.
I don't usually mix unless it's really, really horrible. So the only thing I mix with right now is the Johnnie Walker Red piece of garbage with coke, but I actually throw in very little JW because if you put too much it ruins perfectly good coke. (Yeah, I do very much dislike JW Red, but you know....)
But I've never found whisky particularly interesting to mix with. Although I guess in the US you can get bourbons for less than $10 I guess, here it's flat out more expensive than say vodka of rum. I find that cheap rum and vodka mix better than whisky for cheaper anyway.
Screwdrivers are awesome if you want something powerful and pleasantly sweet, you can do pretty much anything you want with rum. Mixing good whisky is a sacrilege because you lose too much of the depth, and mixing bad whisky (or a whisky without much character) is, I would argue, pretty underwhelming. That said, I'd be glad to be proven wrong

If I'm at a club tho I also use ginger ale. For mixed drinks, birddog makes a nice/cheap blackberry whiskey and mixes well with the tres leches liqueur (half parts each)

I've been experimenting with cocktails recently and found that seltzer, blue curacao, and a nice scotch tastes wonderful. (I do have odd taste buds though).

Ominous, your opinion on Octomore 6.2 vs 7.2? I've splashed out and got myself a bottle of 6.2 for E 130 (in a sale). I'm really liking it, especially after a few tries, so it's money well spent. Are all of them similar to each other? I read somewhere the 7.2 is a little sweeter...

Whiskey mixes with other fine spirits, citrus, bitters, and sugar quite well to make delicious cocktails.

For mixes, I HIGHLY recommend the godfather! another favorite of mine is scotch and kahlua (same ratio as above)

I haven't tried it yet tbh, so I don't know. But I can post here as soon as I've tried them, preferably side by side. What I can say is that the Octomore's I have tried, 4.1, 4.2, 5.1, 6.1 and 6.2 are pretty similar, with 4.2 being the one that stands out a bit more than the others. 4.2 is also my favorite so far.
I got the 6.2 and 7.2 for €100 each. Pretty ok price.

Hey guys, this post is going to be about a lot of different products but here we go.
I'm still picking up a few of the more affordable bottles while waiting for the deep discounts on the more expensive stuff, I got a Jim Beam Sour Mash a while ago and it was ok but not good enough to buy it again, there's something unpleasant to me in the finish. I intend to pick up the Bulleit Frontier when it goes in stock, I would also like the Maker's Mark which is $44 here so it's a bit expensive for what it is, and some of the Four Roses stuff which is not available here from the SAQ. That being said, I was wondering if the Jim Beam Black Sour Mash and the Jim Beam Devil's Cut are decent.
Secondly, here are (most likely) the next few bottles I'm going to pick up: Chivas Regal 12 yr (to compare with the 18 yr I got as a present) Laphroaig Quarter Cask Glenlivet 18 yr and 21 yr (big Glenlivet fan, I want their regular lineup) GlenDronach Revival 15 yr GlenDronach 12 yr Glenfarclas 12 yr Aberlour 10 and 12 Bulleit Frontier Kilbeggan
Any suggestions, warnings? The selection here is rather limited, and some products are overpriced for no particular reason =(. I desperately want the Ardbeg Uigeadail but it's $160 here and that haunts me.

$160? That's expensive. And I thougth Sweden was bad. It costs $100 (Canadian) here. Reasonable price for what you get. $160 is way to much imo.
I'm not a big fan of Laphroaig so I can't recommend that one. The GlenDronach 15 yr is very nice in my book. The others I haven't tried so can't comment on those.
Best of luck my with the purchases my friend!

Skip the Chivas ;P. I like the Aberlour (10 and a'bunadh, I've never had the 12), the Glenfarclas isn't bad but isn't something special either. I like the Quarter Cask, although I've never had it side by side with a 10yo. I don't see what's the big deal with Glenlivet, sure it's alright, but I don't see the obsession. I don't know anything about Kilbeggan or GlenDronach except that they're Irish and Highland brands.

Looks like you are chasing after peat.
I've had a lot of different Laphroaigs. Quarter Cask is okay. It's a little mild, and the flavour is not ver complex. I'd recommend triple wood, which is much thicker, and tastes more oily in a good way (i.e. more taste). If you can find PX Cask, get that, best Laphroaig I've had probably.
Best Whiskey I've had all year last year was probably The Laddie 16. This is an unpeaty whiskey, but it's so flavourful and complex, the taste keeps on going for a good five seconds after you drink it. Wonderful stuff if you can find it.

Admittedly I have not read through the whole thread, but has anyone tried the Yamazaki 12 and/or 16? I was always a diehard scotch guy, but the Japanese are using peat and they are doing it RIGHT. the 16 is a little more expensive, but it's my new favorite. So smooth!
