Blantons! Great stuff! I never had WIld turkey rare breed. How is that? IM so sad I have not seen this thread till now!
Right now I have: Wiskey wise I have:
Tomlaton 12 year
Wild Turkey 101
The Macalan select oak,
Knob Creek single barrel,
Jack Daniel, single barrel,

Rare breed is a miniscule step up from run of the mill Wild Turkey... good for mixing? Eagle Rare/Pappy Van Winkle/etc. are much better bourbons.

Others i really like are the Jonny Walker Golden Label, Bushmills 1608, Laphroaig 15 years(one of the exeptions of me not liking smoky tasting whiskys and im still not sure how to pronounce the name ) and Murray McDavid Macallan 1998. What i have standing in my AlcShelf right now: Jura 10 years Murray McDavid Macallan 1998 Laphroaig 15 years Coal Illa 27 years Ben nevis 12 years(sadly only one more glass ) LA-Froyg .... it has the pronunciation on the bottle usually
the 10 year is my favorite.... great choice when you want to knock someone's pants off

I just picked up The Glenlivet 18, I am very excited! I have not yet had a single malt that I did not like. Anyone had Glenlivet 18? If so, how did you like it?

Its pretty nice, a smooth, well balanced whisky, though for me there isn't a specific taste that greatly distinguishes it from other similar whiskeys. But I like it from time to time although I'm generally more of an Islay drinker (still enjoy broad palate of other whiskeys though, that have something "unique" to them).

This.
I always look to extremes in whisky flavors to get the most out of the experience for example,
Dalwhinnie being so soft and honeyed.
highland park being salty and honeyed.
bowmore being peaty and sweet.
Or special cask matured malts like glenmorangie's "quinta ruban" being soft like your typical speyside but with a delicious sweet porto-like finish.

Just picked up some Yamazaki 12 to share with my uncle and brothers during christmas. I've heard pretty good things, so I'm hoping it's enjoyable!

Neat or a tiny bit of cold water (or one of those fancy cooling stones).

Abusing this thread for a little offtopic, because I do not think a dedicated thread would work and both share many similarities:
I want to talk a bit about rum.
Are there any people who know some about rums? After falling in love with whisky, I tried a few and there are some really quality rums that are pure joy to taste. Not as complex as whisky and usually more mild, but still wonderful and warming (especially at christmas! :D). I think if you like whisky, you might want to extend your horizon and also try other good spirits. So rum (followed by cognac, grappa and tequila) is the obvious next choice.
So far (not regarding mix rums like regular Appleton white/estate vx or havanna club/captain morgan, overproofs like Old Pascas and crap stuff like regular Bacardi), I got: - Appleton Estate Extra 12yo - this one is from Jamaica which means it is very strong in flavor. Afaik Jamaica rums is like Islay for Whiskys. Of course not peaty, but close in terms of strength and richness of flavor.
![[image loading]](http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR2GSDbtxkLYngMIqgpLtFdXVIODUkWFuCoChUfnqfvRJf1AbS3UxXPDJCZ) - Angostura 1919 - got this one today, it is from Trinidad&Tobago (started by a german guy almost 200 years ago :D). Wow. So sweet and full of vanilla. I love it.

Now I am wondering which rums in the price class from 15-50 Euro are recommendable as well. I heard good stuff about Zacapa. But I would have to order that one and get it shipped. Also, at the superstore (Handelshof) I usually shop in, they have some bottles from Ron Barcelo and Metusalem, both from Dominican Republic, both between 15-40 Euros (different kinds). Curious if those are any good. They also got stuff like Myers and Mount Gay, but I suppose that's rather mixing stuff and not thaaaaat good quality (not cheap, but not good enough to drink it pure, probably awesome for a good Mai Tai), correct me if I am wrong.
Give me some recommendations please. :o)

As a huge aged oak rum lover myself on top of whiskey - Appleton 12 year was one of the better ones i've tried. If you love that one, then you MUST get your hands on some alantico reserve - 15 - 25 year aged rum in three different oak barrels
|
Hey artrey, I actually bought the Metusalem gran reserva at the handelshof yesterday, what a coincidence :D The finish is a bit shorter than I would like, but apart from that, i quite like it.
tasting whisky with some firends in a few days. yay

@OP; You HAVE to try the Laphroaig Triple Wood edition! So much better imo.. Also, the small custom bottle - 'vom Fass'???

^^also rum, a friend of mine went to kingston(sp) for his vocational placement, came back and got me into it. Tho i mix 50/50 with coke and 4 huge ice cubes in the bad boy, excellent to keep yourself toasty warm in the middle of december! : )

Received this bad boy for Christmas (bottled this year instead of 2009 as in pic):

Did a tasting yesterday, I can realy recommend Glenmorangie if you like buttery smoothness, Ardbeg if you are in search for a nice Islay Malt and Laphroaig Quarter Cask if you want that smoke and peat!
The Matusalem 15y is a good treat if you want a tasty Rum with some fruit and vanilla.
|
Islay and other smoky scottish ones are my favorites. Lagavulin, Bowmore et ec. I don't like any liquor that tastes too much of alcohol.
|
I recently got a pack of Campbeltown Single Malts (Springbank, Longrow & Hazelburn). Even though I'm not really an expert on anything whisky related I'm still surprised I never heard of these. I specifically like the Springbank, anyone care to recommend me something similar?
