There is proof that it is because the student was gay, but no proof of premeditation. Honestly, this is not even newsworthy. Kids get beaten up in schools all the time, for various reasons. Sad, but too common for the national news. Was about to post exactly this. Hundreds of kids get beaten up every day, and kids have been getting beaten up since the beginning of time. Whether it was because the kid was "different" or what have you, it's always been happening. Either learn to defend yourself, grow some thicker skin, or this will continue to happen. Not being insensitive, it is unfortunate that it happened, but it's not news at all. And this is why it continues, because we just accept when one kids beats the shit out of another when the kid who got beat up wanted nothing to do with it. Two kids getting into a mutual fight is one thing, one kid seeking out and beating the shit out another should not be accepted.

It's terrible when someone gets beat up based on their sexual orientation. It's also terrible when HuffPo tries to create a story out of a gradeschool fight. This is a pretty regular occurrence at any given American public school.

didn't read everything oo; the kids parents could easily take this to court.. they're choosing not to if there aren't any charges.. specially if there are videos set up

I think the main thing here is it wasn't a fight, it was an attack. A premeditated attack. For that it shows a level of problem that a 3 day suspension is not enough. For that level of violence that was planned? That kid has a problem and needs to be out of school.

oh nevermind, it's the fucking internet. Oh please... Who gives a shit even IF this is a trumped up story by the kid who was assaulted. How is this type of premeditated, sustained assault justifiable under ANY circumstances??

That bully got away too easily. Where I live, the school district would have expelled him.

Kid gets beat up for reason X. Nothing new really. Move along.

Nothing, it shouldn't be accepted at all, by anybody to anybody else. When both kids want to beat each other up it's a fight. When one kids wants to beat the other up and the other kid only wants to get away, it's assault.
And doing 30 push ups makes a lot of anger go away.

even if he is gay he is still a men and not a fragil gril
he should have defend himself
better
and even to strike back when you know that the other one is bigger and stronger helps and it has nothing to do if he is gay or not if you can show that you have teeth like a tiger the bullies think twice before or they harras you
People like you are what allows this stuff to continue on, with little punishment and no lessons learned. I guarantee the kid probably doesn't care a single bit about a 3 day suspension, even one week wouldn't bother him. People who commit hate crimes aren't going to learn a permanent lesson from just a suspension.

I hate them but I don't think you should beat them up for it.

I thought this stopped, only 3 days suspension, thats like a vacation for the offender, really really.... just wow

Man what the hell, I got suspended for two weeks for studying in the cafeteria when a fight broke out on the other side back when I was in highschool. Apparently I was supposed to stop studying for my math diploma and intervene/run away or something...
-.-
Talk about different standards.

When I was in school I got a 5 day suspension for chipping a brick on one of the buildings at my school, plus I had to pay for it to be repaired....
This guy severely assaults someone because of their sexual orientation and gets only 3 days?
Deserves to be thrown in jail. On top of that, more so in my own head it would be a satisfying sense of justice if he also got raped in jail, take that homophobe. Yes, that opinion is highly politically correct I'm just stating that I would have no hard feelings for the bully if that happened to him.

I don't know why people are saying this happens all the time. That kind of attack is not normal.
I mean, I went to public school in the US (though a decent school district) and never saw anything even close to that. And as has been stated, it wasn't a fight it was a guy attacking the other guy and pounding him as hard as he could.

If you're older then 5 you know better. I'm so sick of hearing this 'they don't know better' crap that holds no water. At 15 you don't know better about things like taxes, spending money, or having sex. You know the difference between basic right and wrong.

How did you come to this conclusion? Can you explain why one student waiting for another student to show up to a class to beat the crap out of him is different then how any other bully/victim fight would go down?
