Haha you guys get me <3

Background to my question is there is interest: Me and this other guy are equally alike in all the departments "looks/physical health/muscles, intelligence, money, humor, kindness, charming personality" (Fiwifaki), but the other guy got the girl because he was well known in the community for not particular reason.

This is not very accurate unless the only famous people are thespians and models.

Aren't performers most of the famous people generally found attractive? For both men and women, actors, singers, etc. are the preferred crush/gushing target. Politicians and intellectuals, occasionally, but it's the exception, not the rule.

Actors and models make up the vast majority of famous people, so I would say that yes, it is very accurate.

The other big group of famous would be athletes. While it doesn't require you to be attractive, it's usually a byproduct of being in top shape. Or in some cases it's the attractiveness that makes them famous (see: Sharapova)

Thats such a hilariously warped and infantile view of the world to think only thespians and models are the only people who are famous when only such a tiny percentage of them are even remembered by the public.

Go to any cash register in a supermarket and tell me who is on the cover of every magazine there. While you're there, also ask people around you to name the first 10 famous people that come to their mind. I guarantee almost all of them will be actors/athletes/musicians and maybe the president.

If you are defining famous as someone who will go down in history then I can understand why our ideas differ.

Also I find it funny you try to appear so educated and yet to resort to insulting me calling my ideas warped and infantile. You can disagree with me without attacking me. Not even the first time this has happened with you.

Saying that famous people does not only refer to models and actors is not being educated, its not being educated to be able to recognize people.

Fame has nothing to do with looks and everything to do with recognition.

Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Glenn Beck, Katie Courick, Queen Elizabeth, Spongebob, Superman, Batman, Sarah Palin, Ted Kennedy, John Kennedy, Abraham Lincoln, Carson Daly, and so on and so forth.

There's a lot of them. Pretty, ugly, real, cartoon, dead, etc...

They're all famous! Homer Simpson, is famous. Dr. Suess, is famous. JK Rowling, is famous.

Ask any random person in the US who any of those people are and they will say "yeah, I've heard of him."

Its not educated to be able to recognize Michael Jordan's name. Its not educated to be able to recognize Josh Whedon's name. Or Steven Speilberg, or George Lucas.

Its moronic to think that only pretty people are famous and that majority of those famous people that everyone celebrates 24/7 are not celebrities (as their name suggests)

He was making a backhanded attack on someone because a girl he liked preferred someone else and tried to justify it by pointing at super models and actors.

Next time I am reincarnated as a cartoon character I'll be sure to be famous.
The unrealistic sound of these propositions is indicative, not of their utopian character, but of the strength of the forces which prevent their realization.

Yeah... but when you ask a random person on the street, chances are they will mention none of the people and fictional characters in your list, but instead: Beyoncé, Brad Pitt, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Saying it's uneducated is a straw man, as nobody was talking about education, bit about fame. And fame doesn't mean "famous among white college kids".

I was more referring to your insistance of using "thespians" instead of just saying actors. And like the other poster said, the people you listed make up a small portion of famous people that are regularly in the publics mind. If you asked for a list of 10 from people, I would wager that 6-8 would consistantly be the attractive type.

Also cartoon characters aren't people. The Eiffel Tower is also famous, are you going to add that to the list?

If you rattled off those people to anyone on the street they would not only recognize who you were talking about, but even have their own opinion of them. They're famous, they're celebrities. It is only when you discount them that you get "stuck" with only good looking people being famous. Celebrities are varied, and encompasses a large portion of the public's zeitgheist.

Heck, captain america getting shot was a news worthy event and I've even heard random people in the grocery aisle talking about being shocked that the they had Archie in the Archie comics shot. And you bet that Homer simpson's speech patterns, and mannersisms are being copied by his fans while Josh Whedonites chant his name whenever he releases a new movie. And Goerge RR Martin? Please, people talk about him all the time. Heck, there was uproar when JK Rowling started talking about Harry Potter.

To think that the only reason someone is famous is because they are good looking is naive.

it's not an actual product and you can't touch it. you just believe in the definition of it, the definition advertisers gave you.
you're not born with it, it's not a character trait. it's a manufactured illusion who bends your perception.

I don't think you know what that word means (or how to spell it - hint: it's the same in German as in English)

Pretentiousness is more puerile than any ostensibly infantile world view.

Also people often become famous because a lot of people find them attractive. Or at least that was a relevant portion of it.

This is not very accurate unless the only famous people are thespians and models.

To think that the only reason someone is famous is because they are good looking is naive.

No one is saying that. I'm saying that the most common type of famous person is the actor type, and an attractive actor will usually have more success than an unattractive one. Resulting in the majority of famous people being attractive.

For someone that loves to argue so much I would expect you to actually argue my points rather than a straw man.
