There are places I hear in Vietnam and Cambodia where they put birds in there instead.
In the Yukon, it's a human toe as the worm wood.
If you accidentally swallow the toe you have to replace it with your own. -.-

I've also eaten emu, which tastes kinda like chicken. I'm proud to say that I think I live in the only country on the Earth which routinely eats both of the animals on its coat of arms.

Wakame salad is very very good plus its a great source of calcium ![]() Havent eaten anything "weirder" than raw calamari. Doesnt taste anything (aside from the seasonings), and its quite springy, kinda like eating rubber.

Not that it tasted that much different from regular fish. It was a frakking swordfish for goodness sake

No way, ostrich is red meat. It doesn't taste like chicken at all... I tried snake, duck blood (similar to the pork blood OP described), jellyfish, sea cucumber. Weirdest stuff I tried was caterpillar fungus (冬虫草). It's kind of fungus that lives in the ground. It can infect big caterpillars, germinate in them, kill and mummify them. Then it grows out of the body of the mummified caterpillar. edit : poster above me reminded me of century eggs. I hate too see an egg with blueish green yolk. Also I see many people posting chicken gizzard as weird food, I don't find it weird at all ^^ ah yeah, that's cordiceps. it's quite commonly eaten. i think it's said to have some medicinal properties? my friend always eats it when she's sick. it basically is a fungus that infects insects and causes them to climb onto the stalk of another plant and grip onto it with its mandibles (where presumably the environment is ideal for the fungus). then it kills the insect and grows from its corpse.

-Raw Horse (in Japan) -Diamond Back Rattle snake (in Texas, my home state) -Freshly killed octopus (Japan again) -Natto in Japan (not necessarily odd but god aweful(its fermented soy beans(fermented is being kind to it, its more like rotting soy beans)) -Crocodile -Emu (a friend's family raised them) -I attempted the nearly born bird (I think the Filipino above me mentioned the proper name for it), but could not actually eat it. (But hey, I think its worth a mention) There are a lot of meat products that I have eaten while I was in Asia that I did not know exactly what it was, so there maybe more.

Kangaroo is actually fantastic, though it can be tough because of course it's game meat. If you're used to eating beef (which is like the most tender red meat in the world) you'll probably find kangaroo too tough for you, and you have to be really careful not to overcook it or it becomes rubber. However it is delicious and I'd recommend it to anyone who comes to Australia. I've also eaten emu, which tastes kinda like chicken. I'm proud to say that I think I live in the only country on the Earth which routinely eats both of the animals on its coat of arms. Kangaroo? I've wanted to try that but it's difficult isn't it? Because it keeps hopping off the plate? ... Oh, Letterman ...

edit: Kangaroo hardly qualifies. It's readily available in supermarkets here these days and it's an incredible meat. Ultra lean, super nutritious, many of the cooking properties of good beef with a richer more complex flavour that goes incredibly well with both western game sauces and south-east-asian citrus, soy and chili styles.
