Japanese Pickled Squid.

Recipe = Squid + salt + sun = Rotten squid in a bowl

Unsurprisingly wasn't the tastiest thing I've eaten.

hmmm havent seen it mentioned here. coming from an asian background ive witnessed a number of things many over here would consider rather disgusting. pig brain, lots and lots of innards, frog legs, insects etc. have eaten some but mostly refrained from doing so(too accustomed to western cuisine i guess). the one thing that has always stuck with me though is balut which is basically a fully developed chicken embryo that is /boiledkilled off shortly before consumption and then eaten just like a normal egg, only that you have developed features like a beak, chicken feet and so on in there as well. coudnt stomach it so i declined, thankfully the people i was with were very understanding:-D

yes im chinese, being around hk and shanghai lets you eat a lot of cool shit

kangaroo - too hard but was probably overcooked
bear - very nice. braised with some chinese sauce but very expensive
dog - too gamey... acidic... didn't like it
snake - lean but not fiber stuckinyourteeth lean, really good, like chicken
grasshoppers - you wouldnt even know youre eating them. good shit
snails - with mashed potatoes and garlic butter? -the shit-
eel - my favourite fish behind salmon and sea bass. melt in your mouth
frog - like chicken but softer
pigeon - oh man that dark meat flavour is so good
donkey - like beef but softer, more flavour
sea urchin - nice but didnt live up to the hype and definitely not the pricetag
sea cucumber - slimey piece of sponge not worth price
jellyfish - crunchy and bouncey. no taste except for sesame sauce served in
deer - pretty good, but was cut very thin so couldnt really tell
moose - pretty good, but was also cut up so couldnt really tell
ants - fried so didnt taste like anything but salt and spices
chicken feet - like eating chickenwing tips. i can nibble on them if im drinking but otherwise i dont really see the point.

When I lived in China I tried these. I also had some camel and cat. I used to live in the Middle East, and I kind of developed a taste for Camel, it isn't bad when it is prepared properly.

I think the weirdest food I have ever eaten is Gopher. I got plastered one night, and my friend and I decided to catch and cook some gophers. Here are some pictures for proof. We didn't actually catch the Gophers until the next day, so we were both sober in these pictures. I did the evisceration, which was pretty similar to cleaning a really small rabbit.

black culture here have some pretty weird dishes here. Ive tried most of them but probably wouldnt go out of my way to eat them again :

brains, hooves, stomach, lungs, eyeballs, whole heads even of cows and sheep and goats.
Chicken heads, feet, intestines, hearts, well pretty much everything on a chicken exept for the feathers. Even bones are chewed into powder like substance.
Some eat cats, dogs, and even baboon meat which share most of our dna but it is ironically for most of them a sin to eat pork because its 'dirty meat'. Some of its pretty good though.

Other weird things ive eaten are mopane worms (fat beetle larvae) locusts, buffalo, giraffe, snake and camel.

Also if you ever get offered warthog, koedoe (kudu) or rooibok (red buck) jerky or biltong as its called here, do yourself a favour and just try it. You will literally eat that shit till your jaw hurts. So good!

Century egg or thousand-year egg - its basically a preserved egg
I've eaten it a few times in Asia.
Its ok but i wouldnt eat it everyday or month. The texture is really weird and also the smell is horrendous

It doesnt look as nasty as it is in the picture, but still eew.

This stuff is fucking delicious. You can actually replicate the yolk flavor almost 90% with avacado and soy sauce. Try it out, the texture is so similar as well.

Weirdest would definitely be a snake, braised to perfection, tasted very delicious, reminded me of chicken with a lot more mini bones

I live in the Middle East, and have a lot of Filipino friends. They really enjoy cooking me things they don't think I would like, and watching my reaction as they tell me what it is....

Among the things I have eaten:

Grilled Dog
Pig Blood pudding
Pig Blood stew
Hooves
Deer
Pheasant
Pigeon
Testicles
Squid innards
Goats Eyes
Pretty much every single bit of Lamb/Goat/Chicken/Pork/Beef including brain a couple times.
Camel Burger/Curry/Steak
Scorpion
A couple types of worms, forget which types they where.
Grilled Rat
Rat meat rice cake
Bone Marrow broth
Ants
Friend bugs or various sorts.

Balut. Which is an egg that has started to grow a chicken inside. So there is a little bit of blood/guts/meat/feet/beak and even a feather or two inside the egg, but most of it is still the raw egg stuff you get in a normal egg, with a developing embryo.

A lot of horrible combination of normal ingredients. Example, one thing I quite like is Vanilla Sponge cake, with cheese and Mayonnaise lol. Curry Coffee, no seriously, it has curry in it. Apple pie with curry sauce, that's quite nice.

That's all I can think of for now. I've eaten loads of other things lol. I am willing to try anything once, and I wouldn't turn my nose at food unless I've given it a fair chance. I've only puked once eating a food, and that was a tin of Delmonte Plumed Tomatoes lmao! I f***ing hate plumed tomatoes, they make me want to puke. I can eat a brin stew, top with testicles and a Balut to wash it down, but I couldn't eat a plumed tomato.

I recently ate pig ear, pig brain and pig intestine when i was in Shenzhen, China.

The pig brain wasnt that tasty, but the pig ear was freaking delicious.
I'm Norwegian/Dutch. Just the awesome parts of them though :D

A live octopus minor (낙지) that you swallow in whole. The thing feels weird as it goes down the throat (that's what she said) and the fact that you're eating something alive makes it stranger.

cow balls, pig intestines, pig stomach, frog, cat, dog, pig knuckle, chicken feet, live squid (yes, it squirms on its way down), and many many unidentified things- i stopped asking cuz most of it tastes good, but once you know what it is you don't want to eat it, and thats rude

i do business in asia. all that food is not weird to them though. still i find mcdonalds to be the most putrid

psylocybin mushrooms.. lol does that count

EDIT: aged egg (it's black, and ferments for like 100 years?)

for the aussies here, it's probably pretty common, but the weirdest thing i've eaten was kangaroo tail. didn't taste really good.

other than that kangaroo tastes fine. so does horse, camel and ostrich. it's just the western perception that we don't eat them regularly.

Probably duck gizzard and lamb's tongue.

I usually am not ridiculously exploratory with food, so I've still never tried stuff like sweetbreads (cow's brain iirc for those that don't know)
