Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members.
Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true.

Go to BBC news they're sending live aswell. Its quite good and informative - as much as they know that is
I've been looking for a BBC livestream, but couldn't find one, and I don't have access to BBC on standard TV atm. :/ If someone knows of a BBC livestream, I'd like a link.
And yeah, I'm watching Aljazeera atm, which is ok too.
BBC website has one on the front page. Watching Japanese TV but with BBC streaming on my Laptop atm.
If you're willing to tolerate NHK being streamed in Japanese via his iPhone by a middle schooler, you might find this useful too: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/fc2mh3

I welcome you to visit the US government agency responsible for issuing that warning and noting that it doesn't exist: http://www.weather.gov/
IT DOES EXIST! if you give a link, then check california for yourself please..

This is from the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center website, literally 5 seconds ago
"The Tsunami Warning continues in effect for the coastal areas of California and Oregon from Point Concepcion, California to the Oregon-Washington border.
The Tsunami Warning continues in effect for the coastal areas of Alaska from Amchitka Pass, Alaska (125 miles W of Adak) to Attu, Alaska.
The Tsunami Advisory continues in effect for the coastal areas of California from the California-Mexico border to Point Concepcion, California.
The Tsunami Advisory continues in effect for the coastal areas of Washington, British Columbia and Alaska from the Oregon-Washington border to Amchitka Pass, Alaska (125 miles W of Adak)."

I'm no physicist but I presume that means there'll be a fire and maybe toxic materials floating around?
Shouldn't happen. I'm a nuclear physicist student, and if there was no problem within the nuclear security, there shouldn't be any criticality problems, meaning no direct radiations. Sismicity and fires are comprised within the nuclear security, if the two of them should happen at the same time.
Ah thanks, good to know. I guess the nuclear emergency state is an overreaction then? Or a way to keep their political options open for... whatever they might use it for.

I live in Osaka, have NHK on right now. thanks tho.
I'm on the west coast of BC on Vancouver Island (In Port Alberni).
"Port Alberni" means we're at the end of a long, narrow inlet. We've had major tsunamis before. We're on LEGIT warning. If even a mild wave hits the coast it will grow to huge proportions on its way up the inlet.
Translation: "The government has stated that they will declare a state of nuclear emergency due to concerns that a nuclear power plant has leaked radiation. It is suspected that the Fukushima #1 Reactor is being referred to. This is the first time that this declaration has been made."

It's a panic right now. I guess they don't have enough information, so we can't say it's an overreaction right now... I'd like to know if the security injections are working. If not, there could be a fusion of the core, but it shouldn't happen with nuclear security norms as they are. I dare say it will not happen, in fact. Only if the people don't fuckin screw up like they did with Tokaimura in 1999.

Good luck my friend. The Island has borne the brunt of many tsunamis in the past, hope all is well on the West Coast in the morning.

I'm in suburban Vancouver, so you're practically protecting me.
