Crisis in Japan - Page 24

Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members. Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true.

I can't imagine your entire life just being washed away. You're living your life like you always have and the entire world starts shaking. You barely have enough time to get a handle on how serious the situation is before the culmination of your entire time on Earth is annihilated by an unstoppable wall of water.

Yes, of course I will just not listen to it, but it's shocking CNN is considered one of the best news stations. Go to BBC news they're sending live aswell. Its quite good and informative - as much as they know that is

Even if there's a little problem, it's automatically triggered anyway. If there's a problem in the cooling system, they can quickly inject water, hoping there's no problem with the system. It's automatic btw.

And yeah, I'm watching Aljazeera atm, which is ok too.

I'm no physicist but I presume that means there'll be a fire and maybe toxic materials floating around?

From the sounds of things, they're just being super alert and pro-active, I don't think there's a massive leak of radiation.

I dont got a clue how a nuclear powerplant looks or work like :S

Prior to the Kyodo report, the company had said it had not received information on whether there had been any problems at the nuclear power plant after the disaster. Separately, Fukushima Prefecture, the site of a Tokyo Electric Power nuclear power plant, said on Friday the plant's reactor cooling system was functioning, denying an earlier report that it was malfunctioning. Japanese media reported that the government had decided to declare a nuclear power emergency situation, which occurs if there is confirmation of radioactivity leaks from a nuclear power plant or a reactor cooling system breaks down.

This by law is only called out WHEN nuclear radiation is leaked. So we will have to see what really happened in those power plants. My thoughts are with all Japanese people.

Shouldn't happen. I'm a nuclear physicist student, and if there was no problem within the nuclear security, there shouldn't be any criticality problems, meaning no direct radiations. Sismicity and fires are comprised within the nuclear security, if the two of them should happen at the same time. Problem is, Japan is known to be quite... light with nuclear security. Hoping I'm wrong. (not as light as Russians anyway :/ )
