Crisis in Japan - Page 128
Forum Index > General Forum |
Thread is about the various issues surrounding Japan in the aftermath of the recent earthquake. Don't bring the shit side of the internet to the thread, and post with the realization that this thread is very important, and very real, to your fellow members. Do not post speculative and unconfirmed news you saw on TV or anywhere else. Generally the more dramatic it sounds the less likely it's true.

The readings were next to the reactor buildings, but that amount of mSv can no longer easily explained with vented steam and the hydrogen explosion. Pressure in the reactors is stable according to the press conference. But he just confirmed that the primary containment of #2 might be damaged with a very high probability. If that's true, combined with the radiation levels reported earlier, that's really really serious. Yes, more detailed answers and readings are necessary. I hope there will be an useful TEPCO press release soon. It needs to be clarified if these are sustained readings or just peak measurements again.

Just got this in my email. Apparently there are talks that workers in the #2 plant I believe are planning to leave, in which case they are saying that meltdown of the reactors will be inevitable.

Interesting quote there: “It’s way past Three Mile Island already,” said Frank von Hippel, a physicist and professor at Princeton. “The biggest risk now is that the core really melts down and you have a steam explosion.”

They evacuated non-essential personnel so that only the 50 involved in the pumping of seawater remained.
