I'm no expert, but it looks to me like there are four possible outcomes in order from best to worst: 1. China condemns NK's actions and no war occurs, 2. China supports NK and no war occurs, 3. China condemns NK and war occurs, and 4. China supports NK and war still occurs.
I'm hoping really really hard for scenario one. If scenario four happens we're all fucked.
Scenario 4 is really, really unlikely. China is only supporting North Korea economically, they certainly aren't giving them any military aid. The only argument one could make for China wanting to support North Korea in a war must be because of some ideological reason, and if you read about how the Chinese government is treating its own workers, it is highly unlikely that they are going to throw away all they have worked so hard for just for the sake of defending an unimportant ally that they have grown increasingly irritated with.

I doubt US will do anything, they couldnt exploit Korea for any reason, so why would their army ever move out eh ?
Last i heard US had 50k soldiers in SK to help stabilize the region and assist if needed. Hate to defend US military politics but before you bash them remind me how many troops Germany has there?
So what? Germany has troops all over the world to help and assist if needed, no one hears about it because we dont boost ourselfs with our presence. Maybe if America would finally admit that they attacked Vietnam for the sake of it and that Vietnam never attacked the US then I would be a bit more happy but until then...
maybe you should stop going around this thread leaving snide anti american comments and actually discuss the topic? Germany attacked all of europe and killed millions of jews just for the sake of it, just ya know btw.

Not a funny joke. There was nothing to exploit in Korea in 1950s as well.

Excuse me, did such a thing ever happen before?
yeah, arguably.
In history, and I mean including middle age, there are some wars started with a rogue action. But everybody knew and knows that those countries were ready to war anyway, it just needed a little push.

Make an anti-American thread and take your crock there.

Yeah. From where I stand, they're also ordered in most likely to least likely. That said, even the slightest possibility of something leading the USA into war with China is way too high, which is what North Korea has been banking on.
I'd really like China to say something stronger than 'this is bad stop it you guys,' it would do a lot to clarify the situation.

actually some of you do And I'm sure you know know the opinion of all the 300 million americans don't you? Again if you have a general problem with america and its history make a thread about it and rant but don't do it here. This thread is about the North/South Korean conflict
My question is .... who approved or commanded the artillery to attack the island? Did they really feel there was that much threat from the South? Or was this planned from the start to start conflict because North Korea has always seemed eager....

The US has military presence everywhere. That's arguably a bad thing, but let's not discuss it here.
Yeah, i can see that argument going bad really fast in a thread like this.
All in all tho, this situation worries me quite a bit.
SK is probably somewhat prepared for this, from what i understand they have a fair militry force themself, with support from US regarding technology and equipment.
I doubt that China will get involved much, and US seem to be standing firmly on SK's side. NK just has everything against them, exept one thing that somepne pointed out earlier. NK most likely cares a hell of a lot lesss about losses than SK, US or any other allied country. They might be quite happy throwing away a large portion of thier army for the sake of "aquiring" some of SK's land.
If they can push in a bit, sequre the positions and then plea for peace i am not sure if other countries would support SK if they wished to continue the war. Helping someone under attack is one thing, helping someone attack back when peace is offered is quite another thing.

Stop derailing the topic. You let us germans look like Idiots...
To Topic: German Foreign Minister Westerwelle was quoted "really worried", named the firing by NK "another military provocation"
"Strong Condemntion" by EU Foreigh Minister Ashton, lets see if EU steps in united if this gets more serious.

If you were in charge would you have let the enemy invade your territory? "Okay, okay, just don't go any further guys please!" Before the shooting NK warned the SK and asked if the SK drills were an attack.
