1. Local military commander of the area gets frustrated of NK not doing enough to destroy the evil South and decided to go rampant. 2. He informs his artillery unit that war has broken on the border and orders units to fire all the 10 cannons at full capacity into the island. 3. Ten 155mm cannons fire at 4 rounds / minute for total of 200 rounds, taking five minutes. 4. This act was reported to higher NK command by other officers. Since this act is totally against NK's plans, an order is given to the special forces / other forces in the area to take out the cannons, commander and any soldiers fighting back. Now the leadership are trying their best to not take credit for starting any firing since it was never planned by them. Internally they might claim that SK attacked and they retaliated which made the SK stop facing the mighty North.

That disolved into nothing, and hopefuly this will become nothing as well. Yeah that was probably one of the stupidest things I've ever seen, i think the whole world shuddered at once... Georgia did what!? the country only owned about 3 tanks.. and they attacked Russia? Hopefully this fizzles to nothing and its just another NK flexing it's "muscle" again. Japanese news covering it a lot, I don't think they want it to go all arse about tit on the doorstep.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says: "It is necessary to immediately end all strikes. There is a colossal danger which must be avoided" This just appeared on BBC. I guess that twitter feed wasn't lying.

Please do not blindly follow in the leash of the Yank media for unbiased news about this incident. THINK before posting about something you know little or nothing about. Haha I'm not even mad. I've been noticing you popping up in threads for a long time and I have to salute your commitment to the role you play. Anyways, on topic: I really hope this doesn't get too overblown. Living in America, hearing only tales of far away wars, I can't imagine how all our super-nerds must feel facing the possibility of a war in their backyard. I really hope the China/Russia/US give NK a collective verbal smackdown, as a war would serve nobody's best interests right now.

However, in response to the actual topic, sympathies to anyone lost\hurt in the attack. I hope all turns out well. I hope you realize even though your second sentence states it is concerning hte "actual topic," that deeming this thread "pointless," is absolutely awful. And to continue, there's hardly any trolling (there is some) from what I've seen, I can't believe you can't see hte concern in a majority of the posters. To finish, god forbid people discuss something they don't understand on a forum and become more informed. It's also a good way to find out your preconceived notions are incorrect on matters. Maybe it's just me but I'm super annoyed at the recent trend of everyone bashing on threads being pointless. What are the point of forums but to discuss relevant shit.

Sorry, should have clarified. There was originally a post on a twitter feed with this information, but people were under the impression that this was false information. This is just to settle the debate. As for the comment itself, if South Korea retaliates, then they will be going against Russian orders, as well.

All this being said, I just did a five minute meditation visualizing peace for the area and focusing my intent on no further escalation and violence. I plan to do another 30 minutes or more later today. If any of you agree that mass meditation can reduce violence, I invite you to join me today in meditating on peace for Korea whenever you can. The more people who send good thoughts to the area, the better. I don't mean to downplay the situation. I realize it is quite tense.

NK shelled a civilian target, if SK had innitiated anything NK would have returned fire on whatever military target attacking them, not going "oh my, lets ignore that agression and instead go attack this village over here".

He informs his artillery unit that war has broken on the border and orders units to fire all the 10 cannons at full capacity into the island. 3. Internally they might claim that SK attacked and they retaliated which made the SK stop facing the mighty North. Whatever the official explanation is, it is important to remember something that Noam Chomsky said recently, that stupidity is often a smoke screen for evil. He elaborated by pointing out that the western media portrayed the Abu Ghraib-guards as redneck vigilantes, while the realities on what was going on was well known as far up as general McChrystal. Anyways, it's almost impossible to make any predictions on how the North Korean leadership is going to play this off in their first official statement.

It's China we're all holding our breath on. I'm no expert, but it looks to me like there are four possible outcomes in order from best to worst: 1. China condemns NK's actions and no war occurs, 2. China supports NK and no war occurs, 3. China condemns NK and war occurs, and 4. China supports NK and war still occurs. I'm hoping really really hard for scenario one. If scenario four happens we're all fucked.
