This game got my attention for a few minutes. In the first one I missed Finland, Netherlands, India and Belgium. In the seconds one I missed all but Scotland, Greece, North Korea and China lololol
It really amazes me what is your country known for, whatever is good or bad. Still sad a lot of people think about this stereotypes automatically though.
Countries like Israel, north Korea, Cuba, etc are still being well known for their ''dark'' sides, I'm so sure there are plenty of exceptions for these stereotypes.

According to many countries, we are always late to our stuff, lazy, copy-cats to Americans, Imperialists and Racist T_T
lol i got 23/24 on the first try. I couldnt get Brazil for some reason. >.< Im a huge soccer fan, and football/carnivals and crazy fans just shouted england to me haha
omg first one i had them all right and couldnt get the carnival one i typed brasil like 20 times and then tried like every south american country... turns out its brazil with a z who woulda known
This was really funny comparing what I thought to what the actual answers are, but isn't scoring a lower score makes you a better person? or is knowing all the stereotypes a good thing?
24/24 in 1:30 minutes. Definitely putting that on my job resume. got all of um on the second one too, though one gave me trouble. This geography minor is already paying for itself!

I don't think these things are very accurate overall, though.
And why so harsh on the U.S. too? Could at least have thrown in something neutral like gridiron football :p.
Generally, thats the world's stereotypical perception of the United States. And i'm not offended whatsoever.
Got all of them with 33 seconds left. Hardest one was Spain. Did the 2nd one with 3 seconds remaining, got stuck a bit on Mongolia and Israel ~_~

The only Canadian stereotype that I think is ridiculous is the "accent". I mean sure, every country has their own "accent" but I've never heard a single person in my life talk the way some people think we do lol. The igloos and mape syrup and beer and hockey and all that jazz is fine.
24/24 on the first with 57 seconds remaining, 14/14 with over 30 seconds left on the second (I forget exactly). Almost missed Kazakhstan by misplacing the h. I'm not sure if it's a good thing or a bad thing that I'm so good at identifying stereotypes.
I would mind the stereotype about the US less if it were less true :\
i'm surprised how many of these i got (pretty much almost all of them). i wonder what it really means though.. i mean i don't really disagree with any of them, it's not like these stereotypes come out of nowhere i'm perfectly fine with russia's and canada's (the 2 countries i've lived in the most)
They forgot that us Canadians constantly have to fend off polar bears, as they ravage our garbage frequently. I did alright on the first one, I just mixed up the final 3... Norway was switched with Finland and Columbia /= Colombia.
First is really easy, second missed Israel, which is embarrassing kind of, and Kazakhstan. I still don't get the prostitute line for Kazakhstan, wtf is that supposed to mean?
On August 18 2010 13:24 coffeefee wrote: I still don't get the prostitute line for Kazakhstan, wtf is that supposed to mean?
It is in reference to the movie Borat, I believe. Thanks to him the image of the nation has been distorted somewhat immensely, but eh, what can you do he is hilarious.
got 22/24, because I thought colombia was spelled columbia (WTF, I know for a FACT I have the right country!!!) and because I couldn't recall Finland in particular, but I knew it was one of those scandinavian countries. They're all the same, aren't they?
Where is the I love the stereotypes about my country option?
Lol fuck didn't make the second one because I didn't know how to spell Kazakhstan. It wasn't really harder than the first one though. Israel took me a couple of trials though.

Chocolate, beer, waffles, sprouts, fries, where on earth is that?
Hey, I think I could do worse than that! Though if it were up to me, I'd place beer first. Also, kind of surprised they didn't mention the one where 1) nobody knows where it is because 2) it's actually really small 3) everybody seems to think the capital of Brussels is Belgium
Got the first 1 on the first try, no time for the second one yet.
EDIT: Got the second one also on the first try. Does that make me a racist or just down with the demo?
On the first one I got 23/24 on the first one, missed Brazil.
Second one I got 12/14. Should have been 13/14 but I must have misspelled Thailand and moved on. Other one was South Africa. I must've typed "Australia" in there 5 times, convinced it might have eventually taken it. Wasn't sure wtf springbok was though.
Little people, rice eaters, cute girls, dangerous, eat cats and dogs
, since rice eaters=asian, little people=asian, cute girls=asian (if you're into that), eats cats and dogs != china, but does include korea, vietnam, and possibly other southeast asian countries, and dangerous = burma, china, north korea, maybe vietnam
And
Big noses, funny hats, curly hair, police state
when I hear big noses, I thought bulbous noses like Mario.

Actually, the "eats cats and dogs" was a dead give away for me. I think that's the most prevailing chinese stereotype thing here in Belgium...
Got all of them in both quizzes. Not particulary hard either. They took the easy road on my country (Netherlands) and went with every stereotype in the book. Not exactly sure if the tulip/cheese thing is still that accurate, but drugs/water/prostitutes sum it up nicely

Heavy drinkers, hats with winecorks, boxing kangaroos
Only boxing kangaroos? Australia outlawed cars in the 1950s, now we have beer powered kangaroos to carry us around the desert, and the Australian army uses armored Kangaroos to fight against them nasty Koalas
I'm going to be disappointed if anyone gets this one wrong
Geeks, kimchi, computer games, eat dog meat, metrosexual
Got everything right on first try, pretty funny. The best hints were always the food. It wasn't really difficult for me, because I study geography and to know the world and their stereotypes is kind of a prerequisit for that.
24/24 on the first one with a full minute to spare 14/14 on the second one, but with only 6 seconds left. Only hard one there was Poland and oh boy did I laughed my head off when it turned out to be them
23/24 on the first one. And of all countries I didn't expect to miss USA. 10/14 on the second one. Would've gotten 11 if I had tried Saudi Arabia instead of just Arabia
I liked these games. Stereotypes are fun as hell as long as people don't take them too seriously :D

-) little Germany: We are not more little Germany than Canada is "little U.S." or Switzerland is "little Germany".
Oh come on that is not true. What about the German question and Großdeutsche Lösung? Thoughts about uniting both countries exists since 150 years. In 1918 both Germany and Austria wanted the unification but it didn't happen because the winning powers of WW1 were against it. You even wanted to call your country "Deutschösterreich" which didn't happen for the same reason.
In the first i missed 3, France, i didnt know about thier women being unshaved oO, Spain, i wrote Portugal, India, i wrote China because of the small stores/ funny english, didnt even read about clothes and dirt
2nd one, missed 3 again, Kazakhstan - seriously, wtf? Sout Africa - no idea what springbok means, should have added Vuvuzela, anyways Poland - the car thief thing made me think of some non-europe country, for whatever reason, the sick of being invaded part should have been enough though ~.~

I hope they realize that the cowards part about the French was actually made up by American conservatives before the Iraq war and isn't something that's shared outside that particular subculture? It's probably isn't even known by most people who don't watch American new channels.
Heavy metal, moose, weird language, hot blondes, IKEA

LOL, I'm ashamed. I wouldn't even finish reading and I already knew all the answers.
I only had some trouble with Norway, Sweden and Finland. Because there was only a few keywords that would set them apart such as Viking, IKEA or sauna. The rest was pretty much the same: Hot blonds, cold, etc. So, I had to read all stereotypes for those countries. Ah, and Spain too, until I read paella.

Sorry, but this kind of thinking is absolutely ridiculous. Lots (not all) of the things listed aren't "stereotypes" per se, but identifiable parts of that country's culture, environment, or history. Reggae, Leprechauns, Hockey, Vikings, Kangaroos, Sushi, etc. The stereotypes are the characteristics which are universally applied to all people in a region; like lazy, ugly, or smart. And even if you do recognize the stereotypes which are popularly applied to different countries; knowledge doesn't hurt anyone at all, as long as you realize that it IS a stereotype in the first place.
Missed Netherlands -> I mean how are ppl meant to know about Netherlands? Finland -> I phased out Switz -> No idea, did you know?
Korea ->Geeks, kimchi, computer games, eat dog meat, metrosexual I'm offended. Not every korean is metrosexual.
I didn't know I was a stereotypical Korean Geek -> I play SC [X] Kimchi -> Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner [X] Computer Games -> I play SC [X] Eaten dog meat [X] Metrosexual [x]

Norway are not that into heavy metal but more connoisseurs of death and black metal. Also moose are also very Norwegian at least it seems so in our gift shops. No, it was made up by Americans (probably by the British, actually) after the French government fled Paris just over a month after Germany began its invasion.

100% on the first one in 2:30. 75% on second one.. didn't manage to finish it because of the Mongolia one.. "live on their horses, have a pet yak" what??
got full score on both, yay. Cant really complain about the stereotype for my country. Hot blondes: I am one myself obv. Singing language: Swedes say this alot, I dont really know but thats ok. Patriotic I guess there is some truth in that seeing as norway is awesome Cold Definatly in the winter times atleast. Expensive obv Vikings fuckyeah.
I would have thought we would have gotten beautiful nature or something though, atleast thats what i hear most about when i am outside of norway and say I am from norway. That and that its cold.

24/24, 11/14 lol The Kazakhstan was pretty easy. Borat ftw And the Korean one was also easy :D Needless to say, I got India correct on the first try x[
Got all but Colombia in the first one - seriously, that description could be any ex-colony country. Missed Kazhakzstanansdajdja and Poland in the second one - couldn't for the life of me figure out the spelling on the first one, and I was more thinking of some generic asian state for the second one.
Edit: A more fitting stereotype for Poland would be like - "Educated with a doctor in nuclear physics in home country, work as untrained carpenter in yours for twice the salary."
Sweden: Heavy metal, moose, weird language, hot blondes, IKEA.
I agree that we have a weird language and that we do have alot of moose. Hot blondes, you can't really argue there. Thanks to Ingvar Kamprad Elmtaryd Agunnaryd we got IKEA. But I sincerely can't stand Heavy metal.

yeah.... very much a WWII thing. Talk to any grumpy old WWII vet.
Got 24 on the first one 10/14 on the second. I missed Israel, Turkey, Thailand and South Africa, mostly because I took too long on an earlier question and didn't have time to think.
got them all exept belgium.. the thing with stereotypes is that they are vage representations of reality its like seeing things in 8bits and they are different from one country to another. I dont mind my stereotype becouse i know that Argentina has more good things to offer to the world than bad, but we are portrayed in South America because most of USA doesn't know where we are from, as lieing sneaking bastards that always want to cheat you and extremely arrogant pricks. From personal experience I feel that stereotypes are not very good for international relations but they are a reference to what you could expect in a country. When I travel I prefer to forget stereotypes and try to make my mind over what the country is really about.
The most fun I ever had in a country was when I went to a place where I knew little about (South Africa) there isnt a huge known stereotype except that they have vuvuzelas and they play rugby very well so most of the culture surprised me.
Re: OP, I'm Chinese-Canadian. Canada's stereotypes were ok. China's were ok too cept for eating dogs/cats. Not that I'm offended, just that it's kinda sad that's one of the things they're recognized by. Actually... do cats get eaten too? LOL
Got all but India and wasn't too fast at it (also took me about 30 seconds till I saw the 'give up?' button).
2nd one: misspelled Israel twice and thought about it wasn't the right answer, did basically the same with Kazakhstan Should've known Mongolia (after some thinking) and no way I would've ever guessed Poland

All you asians, you all look the same, see? Don't matter as long some other Asian country does it
I don't really care about Canada's stereotypes cause Quebec is quite different from what they depict the french stereotypes make me lol though 23/24 btw, never thought of brazil -_-
1st game 23/24, missed Belgium 2nd game 10/14, missed Thailand, Mongolia, Poland, and Kazakhstan (I knew it, but I didn't know how to spell it properly -.-)
got both test full before the time ... i only missed some countrys because i wasnt able to write theyr name correctly spelled T_T but had time to googel the correct spelling so fast i was
€ : since im from germany dont call me a racist please
Uh, I missed 9 on the first one, it was supposed to be 8 because I didn't know how to spell Australia. And the funny one was I only got France because of the coward thing..I feel bad..
oh man couldn't think of Belgium, everything else wasn't that hard. Wish they didn't allow you to pick, because I've tried Mexico and Brazil before Colombia.
wtf 2nd one made less sense, Poland seems completely off and you had to watch Borat to guess Kazakhstan

Lies, Americans know nothing about countries outside of the US!
I got all 24 in three minutes which is plausible because I'm European.

Actually it might. There's an old Chinese expression that means "anything with its back pointed to the sky can be eaten". Though that does not apply to the majority of the people in modern times, you kinda see where it's coming from especially in times of war or intense poverty. I'm not sure if there's an equivalent expression in other asian cultures.
As for looking the same.. sometimes lol. But the feeling is definately mutual in that I have a difficult time telling specific caucasians apart from each other.

I am pretty sure it was true during communism but not now.. Though I laugh when jokes are told. Btw people,NEVER trust stereotypes. Seriously, being cautious is only making people more aggresive towards You,aren't we one tribe,yo?
Got 23/24 on the first one only because I refused to type England in, Let me tell you right now, English people are fit (means attractive, not sure if this is London slang), anyone who says otherwise is clearly misinformed, or is from the north. I know its a stereotype, but there are people saying its true, English people none the less, you people should be ashamed that you would desecrate the most holy of lands, just because you don't look like Robert Pattinson, you gotta drag us down? No more you filthy traitors, I hates you.
I mean, come on, his name was Columbus, not Colombus.
Also I don't think the German stereotype was very accurate It should be Overly Apologetic rather than wanting World Domination. I'm pretty sure you go to jail for expressing those sentiments in Germany.
As for the stereotype of Scotland...I have never worn a kilt ("skirt"), I don't live in the highlands, I'm not tight fisted, I'm not "rough"...haggis is awesome though.

I'm also lololing at the people who spelled Columbia instead of Colombia
In English the country is called Columbia :O Colombia is the Spanish spelling.

And Finland makes more black metal than Sweden. Or at least better.
Good it wasn't a black metal stereotype then.
I can kinda live with the one for Sweden. I got 23/24 on the first one, the second one I could place several ones on, had never heard of those sterotypes.
On August 18 2010 12:10 hacklebeast wrote: i find the hardest part of that quiz how to spell some of the more obscure nations
This. Wich made me fail the timer on the first one lol. I actually had to google the spelling for Switzerland to be able to continue becuse i spelled it wrong so many times.
Also some of the stereotypes i have never heard about like the belgium ones or khazakstani.
24/24 13/14 Didn't get south africa. Couldn't tie Rugby to south africa. I thought it was Australia because of the rugby, racists and criminal. Didn't know what sprigbok was :/
Whats dumb its trying to figure all the nordic countries apart
Only missed Finland on the first test. And being associated with druglords and corrupt police isn't nice, but it is well deserved; so I think I can live with it.
EDIT: OMG, everyone fails at spelling Colombia. I thought that was an US-Only problem.
Got all right in the first one with 1 minute left. In the second i got all but Poland, i tried like 5 states from Europe but Poland didnt cross my mind. They got gross soups? never heard of that and i live like 150kms from polish border :s
I rather failed at spelling country names, many are close to german names and I know how to pronounce them in english, but not the right spelling :D Gosh I failed like 20 times in colombia, plus the fact that there are many countries sharing the same cliches.
Well, I like stereotypes, it's just important to know which one have a basis and which one only are marketing gags, dated or whatever. Plus, many really don't fit to younger generations anymore.
I did ok, only missed a few on each one. Not too worried about the stereotypes for NZ, because they're really not all that offensive. (except the whole confusion with Australians thing. -_-)
I've never understood the "aboot" thing as I've never really heard it in Ontario. Is this some Prairies or Maritime thing?
And Canada isn't thaaat desolate Okay well maybe it is but just wait millions of years from now when continental drift hopefully makes us the Great Tropical North (if we still are North :S).
I'm really, really tired of the WW2 / world domination stereotype regarding Germany.
I can live with bratwurst, leather pants and beer (which isn't true for most of us, either), but WW2 still is a huge topic 70 years later. And especially younger people with three or even four generations distance to the war (my grandparents were toddlers at the war's end) still are confronted with it very often. That kind of gets annoying.
India.though it would've been easier if one of the stereotypes was Bollywood or spicy food or something.another trouble was Finland.though i kinda got the idea that it had to be a country from Scandinavia.
Missed 3 in the second one.it was a bit tougher.especially
If you care about your country's stereotypes then you just have a self image problem. Why do I care if everyone thinks I'm fat, loud and ignorant - unless I *am* fat, loud and ignorant.

how can huge moustache, headscarfs, smokers, nationalistic, kebab, hate most of their neighbors NOT be iran?
Because it fits Turkey much better. Iranians aren't really big on moustaches, if anything the stereotype would be beards.
Didn't know that the Polish were considered car-thiefs though (was my only miss). lol'd at Israel (yes, I have a big nose, it helps me sue people for insensitivity and wisely investing the money I made).
Whoops, I forgot to respond to this thread after I did the test the other day!
I got all except Spain on the first test. (Seriously. I should have gotten it based solely on paella, but the rest was distracting and confusing the hell out of me. Spaniards are lazy, talk too fast, and are unemployed? What.)
I loved the Scandinavian stereotypes, though. Sweden had heavy metal, moose, weird language, hot blondes, and IKEA. Norway had vikings, hot women, singing language, patriotic, and expensive.
Clearly Norwegians are more badass. Well, Sweden IS the Korea of Europe when it comes to video games, and we Norwegians haven't been at the top since 2001. But hey, we can't hog everything, right?
