Wholeheartedly agree with this.

I think people exaggerate how much "Casual gamers" will be scared off by starcraft... I mean, the campaign is great for them, same with UMS maps, and the 2v2/3v3/4v4 games are pretty laid-back and easy.
remember, all of us were addicted to Starcraft when we were like, 10 years old.

this i totally agree with. many people will be totally happy trying to get first in their silver division and as stupid as it sounds even changes like scrapping copper so evryone atleast has a "medal metal" help with this. people will have tons of fun with the xVx stuff and the undoubtly huge UMS scene.
also dont forget that other rts are also played online by casuals and some more dedicated people.many of them will come into sc2. plus wc3 was also was played by pretty much evryone for some time.

we were different gamers back then. we played manly games like jagged alliance,fallout,baldurs gate,system shock etc. we had a different mindset then todays xboxlive kids which worship evry crappy CoD/Halo iteration.
but atleast there are now way more "gamers" and sc2 def has the power to suck in and turn over quite some of them.

I've only been here for a couple of months but I had at least heard of every single one except #4

Due to Blizzard's matchmaking system this time around, I think that multiplayer could become quite popular. With such a large pool of players (much larger than beta), you'll almost always be guaranteed a fair fight when you hit that Find Match button.
In addition, Blizzard has put together a gorgeous new website http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/game/ that I imagine must look extremely inviting to new players. They've also constructed offline challenges and achievements that ease the transition to multiplayer, and presented it all in a very slick package.
I'm a programmer not a marketer so I usually reflexively thumb my nose at this marketing stuff, but I am really very impressed.
edit: vary -> very

I live in Canada and have not seen a single SC2 commercial on TV, this is very surprising.

I live in Norway, and a couple of weeks ago there was a Starcraft-news on one of the biggest. Never seen anything like it before. It was an old video of Boxer showing off his APM

However you can't compare them to each other because the other one is mostly reactionary and the other you know in advance what buttons you're supposed to be pressing. Also when writing you're using both of your hands on the kb which obviously matters as well.

I never knew it "only" sold 9.5 million copies, it makes me wonder if everyone predicting that millions will be sold instantly are wrong.
You're forgetting all the pirated copies

I just saw on some investment/economic news program they did a segment on SC2 and how much Activision plans to make off of it. They then compared it to WoW and the anticipated profits off of Cataclysm.
When they cut back to the hosts one of the girls was like "I have no idea what any of that meant!" I guess years of economics can't prepare you for the arrival of Starcraft.
