omfg I shat a brick at the end when hes like "MY NAME IS SCORPION"
Will definitely at least download this (ill pay for it if I hear anything good about it lol). Mortal kombat movies have a history of being pretty terrible, but hopefully this one is as good of a laugh as the original lol. (2nd one sucked).
Now noone has to go back and check for themselves ;P
The three 'ninjas' - Reptile/Scorpion/Sub Zero don't look ninja-ee at all. :x
As someone mentioned previously, though, this is MORTAL FREAKIN KOMBAT. Although the 'Gritty Reboot' has worked well with some movies, I don't know if this is the right way to go with MK. This looks pretty awesome - don't get me wrong - but there should still be some sort of superpowers 'n shit. It shows a clip of someone getting assasinated by Scorpion. His 'GET OVER HERE' thingy wasn't a giant snake-monster-coming-from-his-hand, it was some sort of metal-hook-blade.
@arb are you actualy saying the origional MKs were good?
ehhhhh? I ain't the biggest MK fan so I'm wondering like, when was it ever a snake? cause from as far back as I can remember (MK on Genesis awww yeah blood) it's always been a kunai on a rope (unless im going too far back? lol)
Oh, are you sure? Maybe it wasn't a snake. Either way, though, I'm pretty sure he had some sort of control over it. More importantly, and this I'm sure of: IT CAME OUT OF HIS PALM. Also, according to the storyline, Scorpion is a ghost or a spectre or some shiet. He can RIP OFF HIS FACE and underneath is a FLAMING SKULL and he has FIRE BREATH. It's just not MK without that kind of shit :x
Now noone has to go back and check for themselves ;P

It was the kunai on a rope in all the games (dunno about PS2/PS3 games though) and a snake in the two movies.

He's a returned from the dead revanant.
That being said the MK as we know it is probably pretty long gone. It needs something new if it actually wants to capture an audience at all, particularly one beyond just the people that know about the games.
It was NEVER a snake, even in the movies. In the movies it was a metal cord attached to a metal snake looking thing that snapped open and closed. It was never a snake per say, it just kinda looked like one.

watched first part of the trailer : this looks ok and terrible at the same time
Not sure where you have been, but although the first movie was good in my books (even with the bad acting and super hokey writing), the 2nd one was fucking terrible.

I see where you're coming from. The problem with "that kind of shit" is it sometimes goes TOO FAR and destroys the viewer's suspension of disbelief. It goes from "ok, in this universe, that's possible" to "ok now I'm watching dragon ball z." Not hating on DBZ (I grew up watching it every day, after all), but they had to rewrite the "rules" of the universe so many times it went from "awesome" to "oh, that's cute."
Trying to stick to the games 100% can create this kind of problem. Suddenly Power A, which always trumped Power B, loses to Power B in order to advance the plot. Yes, the same thing CAN happen with a gritty, non-fantastical setting, but it's much easier to hide.
And yes, in the original film it was a snake that came out of Scorpion's palm (and chased Johnny Cage thru an orchard or some shit).
On June 09 2010 05:54 GunSlinger wrote: So the plot is as follows: Guy who has a skin disease eats people's heads. Failed surgeon goes crazy because he can't handle failure. How does he cope? He kills people with blades he installed in his arms. The police force finds all this out somehow... So they hire an assassin that has been voluntarily locked away in their prison system to kill them both in a tournament.
I find it hard to believe they can get pictures of Sub Zero, Reptile, Baraka, etc. Yet they can't track them down? Are you fucking serious? Scorpion (who is the greatest assassin ever apparently) doesn't know Sub Zero is alive and yet the police do? Oh yeah, and everybody is working for the same big bad guy, who's organization was infiltrated by a movie actor... who was killed... by the doctor who installed blades in his arms.
So... that is actually a worse plot than the first one... didn't think that was possible. The more I think about this the more it becomes obvious that a 15 year old must have wrote this crap. We finally have the technology to make a real Mortal Kombat movie and this is what they give us. I really hope this is a trailer for the game because this looks like utter shit.
dude wtf is wrong with you? what do you expect, some high level script which tells the story on 4 different levels and has a sixth sense twist at the end? Oo introduce the characters, done. make it plausible that the good guy wants to kill the bad guys, done.
that's fucking it. the rest is (hopefully) nice action including sick martial arts, nice special effects, fatalities, lots of blood and an awesome soundtrack (although it wont reach Mortal Kombat in that aspect I suppose)
People like you are the reason good movies aren't made anymore.
So your point is? That I have a bad taste? That my opinion is irrelevant because unqualified? t.t
What you obviously don't understand (looking up a skin disease at wikipedia, good lord) is that there are certain types of movies. Some make you think about life or whatever and really have a value that extends beyond the actual film. Some are just made to entertain. Some to arouse you (porn).
That there are a lot of bad movies doesn't mean that every movie has to have a plausible, well written script, lol. Rambo f.e. is an excellent movie. It's exactly what you would expect. imdb rating 7.3
Now look at District 9 (rating 8.3). Starts out more documentary-like, criticizing apartheid and what not. And ends up being some ridiculously stupid action flick. Tell me, which movie is worse?
It's not my problem that the audience likes CGI and easy-to-follow stories so much. But to say that every movie should be able to compete for "Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen" is just plain stupid, sry

also, isn't the music @ the beginning of the trailer the same as the one in the first RE movie when they enter the Umbrella Corp. hive?

Just found this on a comment from reddit. Apparently, he works for Blitz Games so I wouldn't be surprised if this is all for a new game. Maybe they wanna try something like the cutscenes in C&C3
Hell, IGN even gave the actor who plays "Jacks" in the vid, The Dark Knight's Michael Jai White, a call and his reps told us that White believed the shoot was a marketing component for the game.

That's incredibly dissapointing. Also, that looks awesome.
We've seen Mortal Kombat. We've seen the games, and the first movie. Some of us, unfortunately, have seen the second movie.
Do we really want to see Mortal Kombat 3? Or do we want to see something familiar presented in a new way? Do we want to see a new crew come in and try to do what the old ones did?
As much as I would love to see Christopher Lambert come back as Raiden, I'm hoping this resembles the new MK movie.
