It wasnt until maybe 8 months ago that i turned hitsounds on again. I noticed it's great for hearing offset, for maintaining general rythmic stability and analysing patterns. Elaborating on the last point; some pattern are (to me) somewhat counterintuitive. The hitsounds are a way of getting a feel for certain patterns. As examples, take this or this map. Both maps are brilliant, but i probably wouldnt have been able to play them without hitsounds.People prefer hitsounds? I've had them disabled since before I can remember, I couldn't stand them. I'm not saying hitsounds are good, or anyone not playing with hitsounds has bad timing. This is just my personal experience regarding them. OMFG, i'm so happy right now + Show Spoiler +

I didn't used to use them, i read some tips from people like Kriers (who is one of the closer-to-top players) and my rhythmic skill went through the roof compared to before with both short term and long term practice On February 22 2014 03:01 maru~ wrote: Osu is super fun but I suck so hard. ![]() So practice! :D

since i use earphones when i play i can't really hear my tapping on my keyboard so i need something in-game to indicate when i'm tapping, it also helps keep me on rhythm or figure out when i'm hitting irregularly or too early/late

I use headphones and blue cherries, so I could always hear feedback pretty perfectly. Tried them out again anyway after what people were saying and I guess they're more helpful than I remember. All I remember them being was hitsound feedback and nothing more which I just found confusing getting feedback when I was getting 50's or 100's, but the metronome-style beat that sometimes happens definitely helps. Not that I'm encouraging you to stop playing, just an observation, I've noticed whenever I play in huge quantities, I improve the most when I take a break and come back a few months later, it's always mindboggled me. I'll never notice my improvement while I'm still practising, but when I come back I'll be able to dominate any of my old scores.

For you, I think the rhythm and reading would be the most important. And the part about always doing sliders as fully as you can. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=94258¤tpage=236#4709 This is also great, but it's mainly a lack of practice thing. People's playcount are usually measured in the thousands. Also, if you are making it your goal to play a certain beatmap, you may not be able to judge its true difficulty you get close. Play for fun and download lots of beatmaps. Also no spamming/ mashing keys allowed. http://osu.ppy.sh/forum/t/187364&start=0 If you really want to make improving your center goal, there's this. http://expertenough.com/1423/deliberate-practice People plateau in skill level because of bad habits or not practicing correctly to advance their skills, or from not pushing their physical limits (if those are in the way). But to be honest, you can make it quite a ways in osu, even holding bad habits. Just the simple "don't spam on songs you can't play at all" is sufficient, no need to be paranoid.

Feels kind of counter-intuitive at first to do this but I kind of see it like going to the gym and building muscle and strength. If you train too much without enough recovery you end up over training and get diminishing returns and if you keep going far enough your strength(in this case skill) will start to go down instead of up. I think the analogy applies to osu as well because it is fairly physical with mouse accuracy and in some cases stamina.

Yeah I noticed the sliders thingy. I don't mash or play maps that are too hard for me, but I do tend to play the same map until I get a satisfying result which is a bad way to go about it I guess. I'll try playing more maps. I don't have that many plays so far, but I played osu before. On February 23 2014 06:36 Tenox wrote: I have to agree with Teliko, whenever you play in huge quantities you kind of need a break for the brain to like let it all sink in. For me when I played osu and Stepmania(working my way to what became a 2nd first world pass on a particular song) this was usually 2-3 days and I'd feel a slight boost in skill. Feels kind of counter-intuitive at first to do this but I kind of see it like going to the gym and building muscle and strength. But yeah I noticed the same effect with Dota. Another thing is that my sometimes my mouse slips and becomes hard to control which makes me fail easy parts and is really frustrating. Not sure what the issue is, my guess is the cable is bumping into stuff.

People buy these mouse bungee things, but they're silly. Just get some tape, pull up some slack from the cord and tape it to the desk. This is my "mouse bungee". + Show Spoiler + ![]()

You still need a solid practice base, 1k plays/month does a lot for me (0 skill to my current in about 5 months i'd guess if i did that) +1 for taping part of the mouse cord down Also it's pretty important to have basic settings down. If you're having trouble with mouse at all, 1:1 sens and a good DPI level helps a lot for improving. I'm using 810dpi on 1920x1080 ATM

I eventually got a skin where there were no stars, individually overwrote files certainly not related to stars, and kept it that way. It worked, but it's quite annoying. As Xafnia says, there should be some related files. I'm not sure anymore how they were called; i do remember that finding them and replacing them didnt work for me, but i probably did something wrong.![]() Any way to get rid of these stars being thrown everywhere on ?kai?? time Hahaha easily frustrated when playing challenging stuff and just makes me want to slam hand into desk like "these f***ing stars!!!!" :D
