Holy crap, hand posture makes a HUGE difference in playing osu. I was putting my thumb outwards when I was playing and I couldn't figure out how people single tap or stream so quickly. After curling my thumb under the index, I feel tapping is so much controlled which helps my accuracy quite a bit because I'm hitting the circles in the right time. I also heard that keeping your pinky straight also helps out with stamina/control apparently when I searched up how people's posture is like when playing.

Hue, i wouldn't know about anything like that.
I directly copied my hand posture from how i play the piano. This almost exactly:
The focus is on the middle and index finger, because (of course) you only need 2 buttons. Single tapping is done with my middle finger. For me, key is to keep my hand as relaxed as possible at every moment. In my experience, the moment you're unnecessarily straining your hand, your speed and accuracy goes down a lot.

I don't know if the following has any benefits other then relaxing me, but i also always try to make an upward movement during single tapping. This also comes directly from my piano lessons, and it seems to help rythmic stability. Note this doesnt work for high bpm songs, but i think it's at least possible until 200 bpm.

But yeah, i think posture makes a huge difference.

According to this thread http://osu.ppy.sh/forum/p/2359114 which I took advice from, this works properly if you single tap with your index finger. It has a lot of useful advice so I would suggest people who never thought of posture to glance through.

I was using Q,W and then switched to Z,X and found that it was much easier to move because there was less tension on my mouse arm.

Also pressing keys with your fingers vertical like in that piano picture is better then is you are pressing with your fingers extended. Little things can help your play out a lot.

The pinky thing goes automatically i noticed, so that's fine.
I strongly disagree, though, with touching the desk with either your elbow, wrist or hand. I don't know anything from an anatomical point of view, but i tried all some time ago and nothing worked as good as hovering you arm above the desk, provided your elbow is perpendicular. Both wrist and hand on the desk hurt a lot. Could be personal preference though.

As for the connection between carpal tunnel and hovering your arm above the desk, it's not that there is more risk involved. The point is that things can go wrong a lot more, especially at a niche game like osu, because people don't realise they're making mistakes regarding the technique. I would recommend to people to read this to make sure you have the correct posture. That is, if you choose to adopt this piano-esque technique. In the beginning, it may seem as if you're jumping from the keyboard, but that's just getting used to it.

I hope this was clear, as i wrote it let's say in a stream of consciousness 8)

I have felt my left wrist a bit when i'm not careful, however i have no issues at all with right that step from gameplay even extreme and long hours like osu, sc2 and FPS, so i'm really glad of that (@3.05 inches to cross screen and ~25-30cm/180 in fps)

The only time my right wrist has issues is when i slump awkwardly and forum browse/reddit etc for like half of the day - and it's clearly not because of mouse settings.

Vid to show some skin changes:

too tired to do other stuff (physically! :D)

removed the circle that expanded outwards with hits, changed trail (less glowy much more solid), added a darkening effect to circles (you can see it on sliders as the start and end point are changed but middle is not - was unintended, but i like it somewhat)

also will change a few sounds i think

New PP calculations are live. My rank didn't move much but my top10 best scores are a whole lot more accurate.

Lol, because of new calculations my rank went up 800 places to #1270.

edit: The new rankings feel pretty ok. When i look at dutch rankings, i feel no players worse then me are above me. Some players below me may be better at some aspects of the game though, looking at the names.
Thoughts on it overall?

Welp, my rank jumped from 37-38k to 29k. I still have a long way to go.

Edit: Weird, I remember my accuracy being 91-92% and now it's 95%. I don't know why that change happened.

I don't know what calculation system osu!mania is using, but I went from about 900 to 125.

My osu rank didn't change all that much, but I hadn't really been paying attention to it. Maybe dropped a bit from ~3000 to 4046.

I went ~17k to ~12k (rank 150 uk)

Why such drop in ranks? My first impression was that it was a more accurate approximation in skill (since i saw a lot of people similar or lower rank than me who were far worse in a few or many areas) but i have a friend who was like rank 30k (and only because he farmed easy maps with mods etc) who can't handle streams, higher bpm or ar10 really at all (he plays with mouseclicks), yet he's rank ~12k too now

He has 410 S-ranks to my 43 - but they're on like nomod hard difficulties. AFAIK I'm a far superior player in every way, and we both have a large amount of scores ranked.

Top 100 uk is currently ~2152pp, i'm at 150 and ~1888, guess i can fight for it!

Did this while warming up, still a bit funny with ar10 but crazy jumps on this map

Got another score i thought worth putting on youtube (as it was a global top 50 score):
Screenshot: + Show Spoiler +
[image loading]

I don't really know why it was a rank that high, as the od was only 6, and there weren't any difficult jumps either. I messed up the rythm quite badly as well (although it had no effect on the score, due to od 6)
But still, pretty nice.

That is impressive! Especially just holding a combo for that long. I have a specific bookmarks for maps longer than a few mins to practice longer fc's, you need a certain level of comfort to be able to not make a stupid mistake for that long (4 mins++)

Looks like a good map for practicing doubles. I might mod it, i've been changing stuff around recently, modded a few things (like last vid i put up) to ar10, usually using two notches from the right on circle size, and od8 (though experimenting with od9-10, lower AR and different AR on some maps)

Hows mouse sens adjustment?

Yeah, the doubles are somewhat annoying. First time i played the map, i missed the second time the doubles appeared, killing 900 combo TT.

Changing stuff is pretty nice. Most of the time i edit into od 10 (at ar 8 maps), or edit into ar 6/7 with od 8 or so. It actually is very fun to play for example this song at ar 6 or so with smaller circles and od 10. You really have to know what you're doing to score even decently. I don't think the map makes much sense, but it's good training.

Mouse sens is coming along great. I'm still having some issues with alot of larger jumps together. Somehow i lose control of where my cursor exactly is after a few large jumps. Also, i'm still using my hand too much, instead of my arm, resulting in my mouse sometimes nearly falling off of my mouse pad. :')
But it's getting better. Speed is increasing. I've noticed significant increases in small space accuracy, so that's definitely a good thing.

Do you guys just use the left mouse click for everything, or do you need to have 2 buttons for the really fast parts? I never got very good at osu, but I noticed that I couldn't actually do the fast parts with just the left mouse button, so I'm curious what you use if you don't use just that.

I don't the mouse for clicking at all. I use the keyboard. Faster parts are alternated z/x and slower parts z only.
