I'm a mouseplayer at about pp#5000. I've been playing this game for just over a year now and have been pretty active in the last half year. I started playing this game with the idea that to be able to play really fast, you need to have a really fast mouse. Because of that, I had set m mouse to 2000dpi with the windows amplifier set to the maximum, leading to a sensitivity so crazy other people couldn't actually click on icons when they used my computer. As I got better after the game, about 8000 plays later I think, I landed at about 2,000pp. Then one evening I had to photoshop something and needed high accuracy, so I pushed one of those fancy buttons on my mouse to reduce the speed. Some hours later I decided to play a bit of osu! before going to sleep and had one of the most amazing runs I had ever had, suddenly passing songs I would've never dreamed of. Content with my results I shut down my pc only to notice the lights on my mouse showing me my much lower dpi(800). Learning that apparently I was all wrong and you don't actually need high dpi I decided to look on the osu! forums and looked up some of the best mouse players. You'll find that all of them advocate a low dpi and preferably default windows settings. kriers (currently the highest ranked mouse-only player), for example, uses 450dpi with default 'amplification'. I decided that I had to follow in their footsteps and gradually reduced my dpi and amplification over the next 2 months. I'm now at 500dpi and default windows amplification and have had my pp double(!) over the course of 2-3 months. Some advice when using a mouse to play:
Well that got out of hand.. I like to share stories okay..

Generally, you gain precision by lowering the dpi because you have much more sensitive control over your mouse. CS players use low sensitivities so that they can aim precisely, using an extremely huge mousepad so they can swing the mouse long distances to rotate quickly. This doesn't really work for something like osu!; there's a lower limit because you need a lot of movements, which is limited by the rate which you swing your mouse and the duration before your arm breaks off.

It didn't go so well...it turns out that on lower sensitivities you actually have to move your mouse in order for your cursor to move. I really enjoy being able to go from one edge of the screen to the other with only 1cm of movement. 3500 DPI here too. I'm nto amazing, but it's certainly possible to play t high DPI.

With 400 DPI it's not even my hand i have to move but my whole arm lol, no way i could do proper jumps on osu with such low DPI ( and it would not help neither in any other games ) Over 1500 DPI well, you only need to move a little but i'm not sure how you can have good accuracy... try to lower like 500 DPI and then come back to your initial setting... it will feel awkard but you'll realize that high DPI is not the way to be accurate. I'm currently on 1100 DPI, everything on default but my mouse driver ( G500 ). I'm doing good at the moment but if i stop improving i might change again.

Cyclone plays with super high sensitivity settings and is one of the most accurate players in the game (although he doesn't really play anymore) You can do anything with any settings, it's all up to your ability to adapt to different settings as long as you put in the time to adjust
