Time signatures only matter insofar as your map is mappabe in 3/4 or 4/4. Its next to impossible to map unusual timing from what I understand. Also you should never multiply the bpm. That what slider velocity is for. If you need help I can try and help you out. I've only been mapping for a few months (I'm terrible) but I've been trying to mod more maps.

I've only been mapping for a few months (I'm terrible) but I've been trying to mod more maps. I wouldn't say it's next to impossible. Having a musical background certainly helps, but there are mappers like Grumd, and I've seen plenty of stuff like Venetian Snares done in other music games (vsnares likes to write his stuff in 11/8 btw.) Also, You forgot snap distance. When you want a map to feel much faster, you increase the snap distance, which multiplies all the spacing between notes, which means you require the player to move faster. You could make a 60 BPM map that requires the player to jump across the screen at insane speeds for each note... But that would be terrible.

I can agree with forcing storyboards to be viewed once because those actually can make a big difference in the impact of a beatmap and actually do take a lot of time and effort to make (like Don't Stop Me Now), but honestly who fucking gives a shit if the background has some generic anime girl or is all black, regardless of what it is it took probably 30 seconds in Google to find something relevant and resize it as opposed to a storyboard that can take hours or days

Personally, I think that there should be enough artistic expression in the map's use of timing as well as placement, that playing with or without the SB should have little to no impact on how the map is. I would accept that there should be exceptions where the map is truly meant to only be played with the SB, but in those cases nobody should expect you to actually play the map well. Hardcore SB use and competitive play on a map are pretty damn close to mutually exclusive. I mean, shit like this: http://osu.ppy.sh/s/34168 this is fucking creative. (autoplay with skin etc. intact, because it's impossible for osu to even FC, and I doubt cookeizi could even pass that.) Now, you don't need to make an unrankable/unplayable map like that to be creative, but it should be perfectly acceptable for someone to say, watch your map on autoplay, and then go play it without your SB/Skin. By virtue of having seen it on autoplay they see the intended way the map was supposed to look, but they also get to play it however they want. Really, what I'm advocating for with osu is the freedom for a player to chose how they experience the game. It's been proven again and again online that the most successful ways to do something interacting with the internet is to allow every person the openness to experience things in their own unique way. Some people would intentionally keep SBs, and maybe even play heavily SB'd maps, while others may chose to play in a no distractions setup, and we should be free to chose how we experience the game ourselves. If that means giving up the community aspect for the chance to do that, I'd certainly take it. But you know, I'd bet some people wouldn't be willing to give up the community aspect in order to get more personal control over osu through that offline osu variant I described earlier.

Also, he changed it in the latest version or so that if you delete a background, it defaults to the playfield.jpg for your skin. Except that it also colorizes it like usual, rendering pure black playfield.jpg files useless as well.

Not trying to be a negative nancy just my prediction I like a lot of the things they're planning on doing but I just can't help but have a feeling that someone or something is going to get fucked up and ruin the whole game/community I hope I'm proven wrong though Also the people on their forums saying Flashlight should be equal to Hidden in terms of score bonus are fucking retarded I can understand it not being worth as much as Doubletime but Hidden is like a fucking joke mod for most players (even though I suck at it), there will be literally no incentive to play FL if they nerf the bonus on it that hard
