Ya pretty much. He was complaining about how much better the game would be if everything was AR10 before.

I think that was a different guy

Bobbias has always advocated for user adjustable approach rate (like every other rhythm game in existence *cough cough*)

That would be nice, i really suck at very low AR since there's too much shit on the screen to handle.

It's only torture if you think is it, wololol. I guess I just like the challenge of HD HR, even if I can't FC anything anymore - it's way more fun than nomod for the most part imho.

I think I made some comments to him ingame about the fact that I'd be better if everything was AR10.... I don't know exactly what I said, but I definitely didn't mean to say that all maps should be AR10.

I have always advocated for adjustable AR precisely because of the differences in player's abilities to read different ARs.

Whenever I play music games I start out slow, and pick up speed, and at some point I reach a maximum speed that I'm comfortable with. So far I've gotten to the point where somewhere between AR9 and AR10 would be the ideal speed for me, I think.

Yeah, I find that playing things with mods is generally more fun. HR often pisses me off because I suck at small circles.

And yes, if you sat there and taught yourself to play at a higher AR, you would likely get much better and get used to a higher AR than you were before. When I started playing some songs on HR AR8 was my most comfortable speed, and I could read AR7 and AR9 about equally well (just not quite as well as AR8). When I started playing HR I chose only maps around AR6-7 because anything faster and I couldnt read it, but I don't like many of the maps at those ARs, so I started playing some AR8 maps I liked on HR. I was bad at first, but eventually started getting better. In the process, I started noticing that AR8 was becoming slower feeling, and actually beginning to get harder to read sometimes because it felt too slow. AR9 was becoming my comfort zone. Now AR9 feels normal. AR10 still feels fast, but playable. There are even 1 or 2 maps that AR10 feels slow on (due to being bullshit stupid hard maps).

To get there I got +11 pp from this play, old score was rank 4, 93.74%.



Fun fact. If I hadn't gotten those 2 100's in the last 6 notes (on the easiest f'n notes in the song) I would have beat White Wolf for the #2 spot. (and would have missed #1 by less than 2k points)

Can someone explain how the ranking thing works? How come I sometimes do better on a song and don't go up and sometimes I do better and move up like 3000?

And what does pp mean?

For top 500 ranks you get PP (performance points). More for better accuracy and mods, and the higher you rank on the song the more you get. Your rank is by your performance points, so if you don't have very many and you do ok on a song, you'll jump up a ton of ranks. And no, we don't know everything about PP, so sometimes i've heard of people ranking better on a song and losing PP, lolz.

You tend to get negligible amounts if not hitting top 40's.

I've been playing this game for a few months now and I'm still unable to even get close to finishing insane maps

Normal maps I can FC easily, the same with *some* Hard maps, and I can finish most hard maps I've tried. But Insane seems impossible.

One of the things I've noticed is that a majority of the songs are generic anime openings that I have no interest in. Nightcore is fine, but why is there such a relative shortage of recent English songs in the ranked beatmaps?

A vast majority of the people good enough/ motivated enough to make maps are not interested in english songs. Also, a lot of english songs are boring to play. So sloooooooooooooooow.

I play this song Marionette no kairaku, at first like a week ago I couldn't press the button fast enough to the beat and I thought it was impossible for me but now I can almost reach the chorus before I fail.

When I started I had to start with 0.5* easy maps. Now I play insanes, and can DT some of them. The fastest way to improve is to play songs that you can't pass yet, and try. What happens if your brain will start getting used to the harder map, and when you go play easy stuff they'll feel easier. But part of it is about how often you play the harder stuff, if you only play them once a week, it's not really gonna help. I'd suggest a few retries on each map that's too hard (or a nofail playthrough) and playing multiple maps that are too hard each session (depending on how long you play the game for in your session). Don't focus solely on stuff thats too hard, but play them regularly, and you will find yourself getting more used to the harder maps, and getting better at the easier maps.

I guess it also depends on your sense of rhythm. Mine sucked. Took me about 2 thousand plays in order to actually click to a rhythm, and 2 thousand more to be able to break the surface of 5-star beatmaps. Currently, I'm able to pass some insane beatmaps but I won't be able to FC them..
