I dunno I'm just kind of used to them

I started off playing with them because A. there were no minimalistic skins available in 2009 and B. I was used to the large hitbursts from Ouendan/Elite Beat Agents so it felt like a natural thing to play with

For the longest time I always wondered how people could FC things with hidden after just playing a song once without it because stacked notes with large hitbursts makes hidden a complete nightmare, and then I realized that they were using small/transparent hitbursts

Yeah, that makes a huge difference in playing hidden.

Have you tried playing hidden with small hitbursts? It might make you hate hidden less.

Yeah I do have a separate skin I use for playing tricky songs on hidden and flashlight

I just prefer to not bust it out unless I really have to :V

I just switched over to a skin with small hitbursts with the intent of playing more hidden. I haven't really noticed an improvement in hidden, but maps with lots of notes are easier for me now (less clutter).


I don't know whether I should be happy I finally FC'd this song or sad that I ever played it at all (switched over to default skin for the screenshot).

Still get no pp. I know that accuracy matters and that mine sucks certainly but I still think that the pp system favours the mid-high level maps farmers just like the point system.

If it's the most popular maps that give you more points, and given that the maps are more popular if more reachable, then pp can't be relevant. Only my thoughts.

And I also have a question : Does modes changes something with pp ? like If you pass a song with hidden, will you get more pp than without, if the ranking/accuracy is nearly the same ?

I don't wanna look for the source thread, but Peppy posted that there are different hidden weightings to the mods in the calculations to more accurately reflect skill. So mods should give more PP with same acc/score, and mods like hard rock would give more than hidden with same acc/score.

Seriously I dont get this PP system at all...

I guess I need to stop playing maps as soon as they get ranked. I DT/Hd a bunch of hard diff maps today, and then I went DOWN 500 pp because one of my top scores that I got after I played a map that just had gotten ranked fell off the top 500.

I raged so hard when I was expecting to go up like 500 pp and instead I lost a ton... This system isnt very fun at all..

I don't see you going down 500 pp anywhere after may.

I'm going to assume you mean "500 ranks". Since peppy made pp realtime, everyone's scores get readjusted to take into account PP decay, map value changes etc once a day.

I'm ranked a decent amount higher than you and can't even come close to beating mythologia's end (58% NoFail). A lot of what I play are approved maps and they don't really give any pp. The few easier maps that I play are where all of my pp comes from. If you look at most people's best performance maps they're almost all hard maps, so farming those maps does indeed help pp (yours are mostly insane maps).

Mods help a ton with respect to pp. 8 of my top 10 ranks are done with hidden (I've only FC'd 14 maps on hidden). My top 2 are a doubletime+hidden hard difficulty (~50pp) and a SS hidden+flashlight insane (~450pp).

By the way, is there anyway to see how much pp a map gives you or did you just noticed the pp escalation when you just passed the map ?

Might be due to the fact that less people play approved maps so since popularity is apparently factored into the weighting system, even if you get a top 500 rank on an approved map you won't gain much/any pp if people just don't play the map in the first place

I just looked at how much the graph jumped for scores I did a while ago. Now that it updates in real time you can just see how much it changes immediately after playing the map. I don't think there's any other way to tell how much pp you get.

Also, with how the performance system works it seems like you need a FC with high accuracy to get any decent amount of pp in the first place. I'd imagine the only way to get a good amount of pp from an approved map is to FC one of the few popular ones.
