Not[TL]_Computer, I thought you were called Computer and not from TL.
People should idle more on IRC and maybe we can get a scrim going or something as a step towards the league.

Yeah, everyone that can should definitely get in IRC.

the TL irc? or is there an altitude irc set up?

There's an altitude IRC. Same server (quakenet), channel is #TL.altitude

This game is like crack.

Dev and I posted back and forth:
Sound like fun We will definitely consider features designed for league play. Server configuration options are typically fairly easy to implement so we'll add those if concrete needs are identified. I'm not sure why you'd need an inactivity kick option though -- the 5 minute kick applies only if you do not touch the keyboard for 5 minutes. I'm assuming an observer/broadcaster would constantly be zipping around the map, cycling chase targets, etc, to try to keep the best view of the action. I don't have any experience with showmatches/game broadcasting in general, so I'm very open to suggestions from those who've spent a lot of time in that arena. I'm guessing several TL people have a lot of experience with the various 1st and 3rd party tools for games like CS and SC, so I'm curious to hear which 1st-party tools are helpful/necessary, overall best practices, etc. Demo recording makes sense, but it will probably take some work so it's not a top priority for initial release.

yoyo league update:
teamliquid.net's Altitude League Dates: April 26 to May 24, 2009 Entry Fee: May cost your social life
Alright, the ball is officially rolling. Below, there is information on starting a team, signing up for the league and playing in the super-exclusive, super-extravagant show match. You should use this thread and the IRC channel (#tl.altitude on quakenet) to find a team. It should be noted that the rules may change as we become more experienced with how the game plays during organized matches.
Here are the rules. They are extremely simple. If/when you have any questions, please feel free to ask them in the thread. I will answer you and update the rules with the appropriate clarification. + Show Spoiler [Rules] +
The league's first season will run for a full 4 weeks: April 26 to May 24.
A team will have 2 matches scheduled per week. The default playdate is Sunday. It is up to the captains to agree to a separate date if it is required. If a date cannot be agreed on, then the match must be played on Sunday. Time depends on preferred time-zones of teams.
Schedules will be sent out via PM and posted in this OP. The top teams will be placed in a playoff bracket, the size of which depends on how many teams participate in the regular season.
A regular season match will be a best of 3 map series. The first map will be designated by the league administrators and the losing team will be able to choose the map from a limited map pool thereafter. Screenshots of the post-game screen must be captured after every game and should be submitted to ME (chobopeon) via TL.NET PM immediately following the game along with a scoring summary in text. A game which lacks screen shots from either side will result in a loss and 1 game suspension for both teams.
Before the season begins, I will further clarify to captains exactly how to report the results of a match.
A playoff match will be a best of 3 maps. Each map will be a best of 5 series and will be played exactly like a regular season match. The first map will be designated by the league administrators and the losing team will be able to choose the map from a limited map pool thereafter.
The championship will be a best of 3 maps with a best of 7 series. All regular season rules apply.
A team must have at least 5 total pilots including a designated captain. There is no maximum limit on the number of pilots a team can have.
A captain is the de facto leader of a team. Only a captain can add or remove players from the roster. A captain must be easy to reach for the league and other captains. We will be using the TL PM system and so a captain must check his TL PMs regularly.
Here is the team sign up. It is also extremely simple. I've got a brief how-to, a blank form and an example form. Again, feel free to ask questions if you've got them. I will answer them and clarify the instructions. + Show Spoiler [Team Sign Up] +Only the captain can send this in. Only a team with at least 5 players should be sending in an application. We won't accept a 3 player team "looking for more" - find more and then sign up! Sign ups will continue until April 25. Team Name: Tag: Captain (TL/Altitude names): Pilots, IPs, Account ID: Preferred Time Zone: Show match info: We need your team name and tag simply for identification. We'd appreciate it if you could wear a tag during all league games. It'd make sorting through everything much simpler. We need both the team captain's TL and Altitude names for ease of contact and for when if/when we need to review names. We need all pilots (captain included) handles, IPs and accounts. You can find your ip at http://www.whatismyip.com/ . We need this to verify player identity in the player screen shots and server logs. We need your preferred Time Zone so we can assign matches which are easier for all teams to complete. I will provide a unique "default play time" (on Sunday) for each game based on the the team's preferred time zone. There is no requirement to only play with people near you, but each time should be able to play at roughly the same time - for practice's sake and for official games. The last line ("show match info") is totally optional. If you'd like to play in the show match within the next week or so, let me know. This is your chance to pitch that your team will give a good game to the audience. Tell us how long your pilots have been playing and when you'd be available. Example: Team Name: The Pony Factory Tag: [PEWPEWPONY]name Captain (TL/Altitude names): choboPEon / chobopeon Pilots, IPs, Account ID: chobopeon 43.23.554.123 doobiedoo@gmail.com reddude 65.43.234.456 doobiedoo@gmail.com greenlady 48.43.123.346 doobiedoo@gmail.com blackpower 41.43.789.543 doobiedoo@gmail.com whitemale 43.28.444.120 doobiedoo@gmail.com Preferred Time Zone: EST Eastern United States Show match info: My team is full of veterans that have been playing since before you were born. chobopeon is the OP, and all the rest have been playing since the 80's. We can play anytime on the weekends and most weekday nights, EST, of course.

I was wondering if we could make a rule to perhaps limit miranda usage to 1 per team or something because on mayhem for example those things are dreadfully overpowered so their the defacto choice for competitive play but their boring noone wants to see 10 mirandas.

Do you think we should extend an invitation to the people on their forums to compete as well or we keeping this inhouse

if someone wants to make a post over there i would have no problem with that. the thing is, it would be extremely convenient if we could run this through the TL PM system. if we do bring them in, we're going to need to use e-mails. just throwing that out there.

Should we limit each type of plane to two at a time? Only two miranadas maximum, only 2 explodets maximum, etc etc. Up to you guys. Poll will close when the show match is scheduled.
Poll: 2 planes per team? (Vote): Yes (Vote): No

Guys i want to avoid in a dog fight : Fishball and his goddam explodets'secondary weapon. Pisses me off so much :p Special mentions to : Pillars and his mines around big bomb... Kuja and his fukin biplane or loopy going everywhere. IntoTheWow and his babo 6 pool rush (running through everything just to BIGBOMB our bases no matter how much planes he mets). Damn every LP are annoying actually :p FUUUUUUUUUU.
I managed to survive. It was a busy day so that helped as well. After I got home I just slept till this morning.
PS. Seems like I'm not on the TL List too. [TL]Fishball

Well, we could always make it a requirement that they have to become a registered TL member to compete.

Smorrie and Kaolla would like to join a team or start one with decent people.. We are quite ok at this game both lvl 56 or somethng like that and we would rly love to play in this league... If anyone wants to join us in a team or would like us to join his/her team plz send a PM ! thx
Smorrie: All rounder, good with all planes, especially with explodet and loopy.. not the best big bomb dropper...
Kaolla: Horrible with miranda, best with biplane (or loopy)... quite all round for the rest... biggest weakness is probably being a bit inconsistent (can play horrible 1 game and quite well the next >_< ) and too agressive at times...
|
I think I'm finally getting the hang of the explodet. Lately I've been managing a 2:1 kd ratio, although my kills are usually on the low side. For example if the top score is 35 kills, I'll usually be something like 15-7.
