My name is [TL]Falcynn, although I originally started the account without the tag so I'm not sure if it matters when you try to search me.
Anyways, if there's a league being started I'm open to joining/starting a new team My performance is pretty inconsistent with bursts of being omgwtfawesome, to sucking horribly, but I'm a good team player and can reverse thrust like a mofo (although I don't think that's really a strength )
Edit: also since after asking around, it seems I'm not the only one who has problems with servers randomly timing out on them, how are we gonna handle disconnects in league games? Or should we just wait until we actually get things established before going over that?

Perhaps we can get some teams formed and run a tourney? I know I've got a 5 person team ready to go (yay college ), so lets get some teams, find good times to play, and get to it! Edit: Alright, I guess we should keep a list of teams as well Just gonna throw game names of my team members and I'll update when people give me other lists. I can also just randomly assign some teams if people want to participate but don't have an organized team Team 1[TL]tec27 cannibalsock ObeighsNoOne BobaChops 1up Okay, I think a 5v5 or a 7v7 can both be good. Question: is it easy to set up a server? Do you need a dedicated machine? If so, do you think we could use the TL server? I haven't looked into how much juice is needed - not much, I'm sure, but let me know. We should set up either a schedule league or a ladder. Thoughts? A ladder + an irc channel on quakenet would probably be best. We could either host the standings somewhere (anyone know a good ladder website? I'd set it up[edit: is fraggednation okay with people?]) or I'd handle everything via this thread and OP. We'd have to run with screen shots and such, but it really shouldn't be too hard either way. I think this can be pretty fun if we put a tiny bit of effort in. I was planning on just utilizing the TL server. I can easily set up a passworded config and such that we can put up whenever a league/ladder game is going on. As to the server requirements, you don't really need a dedicated machine, the major thing is really just having enough bandwidth (need about 3KB/s per player). Other than that it pretty much uses very little processing power and maybe 30-40 megs of ram at most.
The only issue with a ladder is that the matches need to be somewhat scheduled in advance, unless we can figure out a way to run a ladder server dynamically on demand (which may be doable, but its sorta tough with the current server setup).
Either way though, I think this will be a lot of fun and should let us push this game to new heights

another option other than the ladder is a CAL-style league:
Schedules are handed out. default game nights are Tuesday and Thursday and the two teams decide which night works best for them. The game is played (bo3? bo5? the games are not too long) by the deadline (sunday each week) and screenshots are sent in and the standings are updated each week.
I'm totally down.

5v5 or 7v7 sound good to me. I'd play on a team, I'd say my dogfighting is pretty shaky, but I seem to be a pretty good bombrunner. Also, I mostly play biplane.
|
Add me to the list: [TL]ArC_man
|
Add [TL]armed_ to the player list.
And I'd totally be up for some organized matches. 5v5 seems like it would play better than 7v7 to me, but it's not as if anybody's had experience with serious competitive matches to tell.

I'm totally down. I think that sounds totally great And yeah, matches are short, we can definitely knock out a bo3 or bo5 in no time at all (and those numbers work well with the number of good TBD maps that are in existance).
Whenever I get around to restarting the server tonight, maps in the rotation will be TBD only (and TBD_middleground will be in the rotation as well). FFA is just too hectic with a full 14-man server on those maps, and since the server seems to be full like 95% of the time, TBD it is

Here's a first draft of rules and ideas. It's just to get the ball rolling. Let me know what you think of all of it and I'll change things based on quality of idea/consensus. Again, just a very rough first draft: tear it to pieces and tell me what would be better!
The league's first season will be run for a full 4 weeks.
A team will have 2 matches scheduled per week. It is up to the two teams to agree on a play date. If the two teams cannot agree, the default is Wednesday night (very much up for discussion).
Schedules will be sent out via PM and posted in this OP. The top teams will be placed in a playoff bracket, the size of which depends on how many teams participate in the regular season.
A regular season match will be a best of 3 series on the week's designated TBD map. Screenshots of the post-game screen must be captured after every game and should be submitted to the admin immediately following the game.
A playoff match will be a best of 5 series. The finals will be a best of 7. All regular season rules apply.
A team must have at least 5 total pilots including a designated captain. There is no maximum limit on the number of pilots a team can have.
A captain is the player who must be available and easy to reach. We will be using the TL PM system and so a captain must check his TL PMs regularly so that opposing teams and league admins can contact you easily.
I am away from my PC with Altitude installed so it is difficult for me to answer a few questions I have about the game. Any help would be appreciated with the following questions:
Is it possible to verify the account or ip of a player? I doubt we'll have problems with smurfing or a WDT incident - that's pretty dumb for a small league. However, I'm still wondering if it's possible to see who is really playing other than just reading the nickname a player might have at that exact moment.

[TL]Nuada Please add!! :D
Really awesome game, very glad you posted it. I'm approaching level 50 I think? Been a few days since I played.
The only problem I have is that I get a headache after 3-4 games of TBD

Looks good
Its possible to check the IP a player connected with through the server log, I know that much.
Major thing we need to figure out is what to do about people that lag out/disconnect. I'm not really sure what the best course of action is there.

Is there obs spots? Or replays?
Maybe some showmatches to test the waters before jumping in for a huge league.
|
Replays don't exist (although they should ), but Obs spots are easily doable (for 1-2 obs). Maybe we could rig up some sort of broadcast? I'm not sure.
Edit: actually, obs could have some problems with the 5 minute inactivity kick, hmm...

There are obs spots. I don't think replays exist.
Showmatches aren't a bad idea.

dang a broadcast would be pretty cool..
is the 5 minute inactivity kick in all games or is it a server variable? i'll talk to the dev if it is for all games. it should be a server variable! let me know the specifics and i will talk to the dev about it.

I love that broadcast idea
|
"Server variables" don't really exist (well, I mean, there are configuration options, but they're not modifiable once the server is started). The 5-minute thing is not configurable at this time (although it could probably be implemented, so definitely check with the dev).
|
what are the configuration options? can you configure how much down time a player has in between deaths? that seems fairly important for competition and should probably be a little higher than it is for pub games.
|
At this point in time, all you can really configure is the map pool, how many players can play, min/max levels, password, and who can do what commands. Other than that, its all hard-coded. I'm sure a lot of it could be brought out into the config though, its just a matter of getting the devs to do it.
|
Well it's still in beta, more commands are probably gonna come with time.. On a side note I hate people in TBD everyone just going straight into enemy bases, no one wants do defend homebase which leads to some pretty stupid losses.
EDIT: Oh and I think we should definitely ask for needed commands on the dev's forum EDIT2: As to the respawn time changes I think prolonging them would just make people use explodets even more since they last the longest
