Yep, I've got mem and int both at 17 and enough isk to buy the rest of the learning skills. I"m grinding out my rep right now to get to lvl 2 missions so I can use

Ninja salvaging looks fun though, might have to try that out.
On a sidenote: Are you swapping your skills to pilot Gallente ships instead of Amarr?
Edit: Just read Ninja Salvaging, I'm so going to do that once I get my learning done. Does TL_Corp support it?

Nah it's too late now. I already bought a BC, paid for by ninja'ing. I'll continue down the Pulse laser gunnery path. Gallente drone style is better for PvE, I don't think pvp fleets use drones.
The nice thing about drone skills is everyone gets them (for PvE and solo PvP), so you get them early you get the benefit early. Plus the Arb seems like a decent afk mission ship. The DPS will be much more than if you get an Omen. With the Arb, you let the drones kill and salvage the loot at the same time, making doing missions way faster than with a laser Omen.
If you still want to continue Amarr for pvp (i hear their style is using passive resists plates + armor plates and pulse weapons), then you can train up the required Gunnery skills later. Amarr ships use a lot of cap for lasers so the two Engineering caps skills (+5% recharge and +5% total cap) are necessary to get to lvl 2-3 early on. I think it's energy management and energy systems op.

Arb is probably the best Amarr Cruiser for missioning because Drones do train up rather quickly in comparison to Lasers. Drones are used in PvP often, and I believe an IT alliance (BoB mk3) fleet used a pure Domi fleet (around 100 Domis I believe) to take down a tower with sentries.

I've been reading a lot about this game and really want to give it a try. However, I'm currently running an old Dell Latitude D620 (specs here: http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsid=2846).
Should I even bother? I've tried googling and searching for system specs but I'm getting very differing opinions and experiences.
Thanks.

time to leave the alliance lol

its ok, we're not keeping it. it was just too easy and anti-climactic though. and completely accidental. we also got an outpost out of it.
|
what's wrong with having sov? I thought that was good?
|
we're joking around, months ago we said we'll never have sov cause it just seems a huge bother to do pos warfare. with upcoming changes it might not be so bad though. anyway, now it seems we MIGHT be keeping it.

Here's my progress in the game so far after 2 weeks.
I'm sitting at over 1mil sp right now, and the next 550-600k will be going into advanced learnings to lvl 4 so basically there's nothing to do for the next week. I'm blowing through lvl 2 missions with a BC to get LP for a full set of +3 implants. Then probably another week of training drone skills so I can do lvl 3 missions.
Meanwhile, I've been thinking of trading by buying stuff from low-sec/nullsec and selling it at the Empire capitals. What do you guys recommend in terms of doing this? I'm thinking a frigate like a Probe. I can get around 1000m/s but the ship itself is pretty weak. I haven't been to low sec before so any advice would be appreciated.
Also the TL channels seem dead, why don't you guys consider merging with another corp?

Think you mean buying stuff from empire capitals and then selling it to low-sec/null-sec?
I don't really see much prospect it in tbh.
I'm not sure the reward outweighs the risk, especially for a beginner like yourself. You don't have enough SP for transport ships, haulers can be easily caught, and frigs don't have enough cargo capacity. Would rather just mission then waste time with this.
A better option would be to play the market in hi-sec.
A few years ago you could make bank by just sitting in 1 station and filling/re-filling orders.
Margins have dropped since then with blogs and tutorials but but it's still doable. Doing all of your trading out of 1 station isn't as rewarding as it once was so many people nowadays buy from major hubs (Jita, Dodixie, Rens, Amarr) and transport said cargo to other hi-sec system with a decent level of activity but underdeveloped markets..
Be aware, it's a lot more work then most think it to be. The whole thing reminds me of travian.
Sure, sign on once or twice a day to re-fill orders; not a problem. But once you start making some serious isk you will find that it eats a lot of time but that goes for lots of things I suppose. If you go this route, make sure to look at trading skills.

Ok, in all seriousness, Liquid Corp is our identity in the game. We all know each other, we know where we come from, we can talk about anything SC related in game while shooting stuff.
If you think TL channels in game are dead, it's just because you have the rotten luck of not living in Europe. We have quite a bit more Europeans in corp than Americans. There's plenty of banter in Euro prime time.

y, but no FC in euro prime
|
Well if you're lucky you can witness a Mukk roam during euro TZ. I wonder who will FC on saturday.

I've definitely had this experience. I'm on the east coast in the US, so sometimes there's no one, but at peak Euro times there are lots of people chatting and very willing to help.
By the way, thanks to the German chemistry student who gave me tips on what to train first etc. (I've been playing for about 2 days)!
EDIT: I'm Gordon Alexander in EVE, shoot me a message!
