Previously I played Evony and the end-game commitment was a pretty rigid schedule and most if it wasn't fun. My friend & I felt it was more like work and we both sold our accounts and never looked back. Obviously games like this reward players who are more active, but is it possible to be competitive while playing a few hours per day? Also, would an SC-like strategy work on EVE, as in you develop a good economy before you go heavily into PvP? I see people talking about PvP and that's fun and all but there has to be some growth to the end game? Oh yeah one last thing, would the game run decent on a dual-core (not core 2 duo) laptop with integrated graphics card?

A few hours a day is honestly more than enough to play EVE. Like you said, if you play more you have more time to invest (lol) into the game, but the offline training means that you'll stay more or less on track if you don't play a lot. PS LiquidCorp I'm coming!

Yes it is possible to make a perfectly good pilot with very little time commitment each day. As for developing economy? a combat pilot will usually make money by blowing up npc ships in his spare time (known as ratting), Also the nature of skill training means you'll want to specialize in one area usually, so ie you would build a pure combat character or a pure miner character or a pure industry character, the only real exception to this if you wanted to make isk by trading which requires no in game skills just real life market savy. As for the endgame, PvP IS the endgame for most, it's also the late begining and middle game as well. EVE is the only game where you can actually take over the universe if you really want, and while most of the pvp we do is honestly just for the fun of it, but you can engage in long term campains to actually claim sovereignty in 0.0 space by ripping it from the cold dead hands of it's previous owner. if by endgame in terms of ships you can fly, it would take at least a couple years to really be able to fly titans well, so plenty to do in the mean time. Really you can't think of EVE like a regular MMO, it's just not. It really is a sandbox game not a do dungeon x then lvl up then do dungeon y then lvl up, rinse and repeat. And as for being usful, alot of strength in EVE comes from simply having more numbers, good PvP pilots are always needed, always. even if it's just flying a tackle rifter or a caracal (a frig and crusier respectivly) by a 1 month old pilot, every person helps in a fleet fight. liquid inc, is almost a pure PvP corp in an almost pure PvP alliance, we have 1 industry corp to help with logistics but even they fly alot of PvP with us. so if you want to play with the TL guys going for a combat pilot is pretty much what we require. But this does not mean you have to there are plenty of other professions in EVE, just depends on what you want to do. Download the trial, we can give you a 21 day one instead of the normal 14 and you can see the beginnings of eve (although it gets alot alot alot more fun after you train up some skills :D) and see if it is for you, be sure to join #teamliquid chat channel and ask us questions there, also remember, do your learning skills first. it's boring and doesn't bring imediate value but trust me if you keep playing you need them.

We has a mega blob(60 people) of battle cruisers and battleships heading down towards minor threats home system in scalding pass. Figuring that they are gonna try and doomsday us, because they already double DD a group of hictors that had one of their titants tackled, we promptly packup out of there and go down into wicked creek. Although out guys had own the alliance tournament match 5 hours prior in express mode we were still hungry for kills and just one jump out of TROLL's(an alliance that recently left great wildlands and went to live in wicked creek as goon pets) new home system we bump into a 20man initiative gang, which are blue to all of our gang except one guy. We say hi in local and our alliance ceo procceds to tell them to not shoot anyone in our gang. Guess what happens when we meet up on a gate? Yep they blow our bomber guy up. Vent goes batshit insane crazy. Our ceo keeps saying "Shoot em, i'm gonna reset them", Mukk who was fcing remains mostly quiet until he asks: "Wait they shot one of our guys and are now trying to loot the wreck(which they were)?" LIGHT THEM UP. One of their inties insta pops. Their other guys jump gate on which side they attack mukk in a hyperion and clain it was an overview bug. We kill one of their bombers on that side and chase them to a station where we kill and pod a rapier. Not much happens on the way home. We kill a hyperion who was out alone and that's about that. But when we're almost home the diplo's start talking in vent and apparently the initiative want us to reimburse all their losses to which our diplo does not agree. They also threaten us with their atlas and aaa friends but we're blue to atlas and they don't really help initiative out a lot anyway. They end up reseting us first and then we reset them. More targets to shoot at right?

The only thing that keeps you from making the laundry or alt-tabbing is the risk of getting hotdropped:D Pfft, who case if you get hotdropped? Just turn your speakers high enough so you can hear it and don't do your laundry too far away. If shit hits the fan somebody will inevitably scream on TS and you will know to run back and run away. Or you'll be dead, which really isn't that big a deal anyway.
