I didnt get anything out of the blog that insinuated that CCP feels that the basics of autocannons is anywhere else that where they wanted it. They just wanted to make barrage less good compared to other autocannon ammunition types. Barrage is getting its reduction as well.
Unless I'm missing something about the autocannon debate, the weapon system itself has never been that stellar, at its height it was always just the hulls driving it forward. For a time machariels/canes/rifters were powerful on their own not because they were using autos.
CCP just thinks this token move would allow autocannons to gain an edge if it was less fuck it put in barrage on the decision making tree which I agree on. Then again I also think that for most auto hulls fighting at barrage range is a necessity to begin with unless you just want a dysfunctional blaster cousin that hopes no one uses a web.
Edit: Of course the sharpshooter mode on the destroyer is making my head hurt. You know that whole bit about the turret hit/damage relying less on tracking speed the farther the distance, I don't quite get the buff to tracking on it. The two bonuses just dont make a whole lot of sense together, but I wonder if you might be able to do something stupid with arties that would be pointless anyways.
I digress, without doing the math, the best use of the sharpshooter mode might be to unintuitively use it to try to get yourself a better tracking damage position in a close range situation.

By the way, what's the deal with haulers? They often risk upwards of 1.5-2 bil just to make about 1 mil a jump... and each jump takes something like 4 to 5 minutes. To be hauler assumes that they have a freighter and required collateral, which means they aren't a total newbie to eve, surely they would have a better income source?
Well, whatever it works out nicely for setting up regional trading
Their expectation of the Time value of money and their perception of the real risk at hand.
So 1.5b earns them 1m a jump. Depending on how many jump they can do and do make, we're talking about 15m an hour. So at some level they're making 1% of their capital back an hour. Which in itself isn't too shabby, since its pretty damn close to passive income that requires you to be logged on.
That said there's next to zero interaction in doing so. I mean I could chain burner missions and make closer to 200m an hour, but I'd have to pay attention (which I often don't but nobody pay attention to my loss history). Realistically I could probably run several haulers while I grind missions as well and increase my total income/hour. Which is probably the philosophy they're following, whether or not its worth the plex depends on how long they play during the month. Besides the collateral investment usually isn't a big deal because of how poor the system is for actually investing isk.
In terms of actual risk, its easy for us to say 1.5b in space, might as well be as good as dead in that, realistically unless you're completely overloading your cargo actually bothering to suicide gank a freighter in high sec isn't all that common. The real risk is really quite low. (I'd love to a failure rate and a ccp spreadsheet that detailed the actual risk rate that haulers face).
Of course some do it for RP reasons, some do it because they like it, and some do it because they want to rep grind into getting into the black frog side of the business and make a little better money in a JF.
Oh and some just dont know any better way of getting isk that they havent burned out of doing.

I see, I was mistaken about a couple of points. I assumed that hauling in a freighter would be an active activity due to the risks of a gank; but if the occurrences of ganks on reasonable freighter loads are quite low, then that would be a much better deal.

I also think a lot of freighter pilots do those jobs because they need to do them until they are allowed into blue frog and black frog, and that's where the real money is.

I did some experimenting with 1k courier rewards and got them done as long as the cargo was industrial size and contiguous highsec. I suspect botting.

Got my corp pos setup, reasonably active hole for pvp and pve. Tl folks are welcome to join corp. New players are welcome also as I have a couple new rl buddies starting, they are going to stay in high sec for a little bit to learn the ropes before doing wh life. So corpchat is helpful for starting folks as they are learning too. Some of us have over 50m sp so plenty of excellent pve or pvp group opportunities.
Message pufftrees on eve or pm here, or put application into Teh Slax. My old eve buds will remember I'm still leading a wow raiding guild ,10 years now, but I added an eve section on the website. The idea is to have fun in the current hole and if necessary upgrade to a c4 with c2/c5 static in a couple months.
